Yes was waiting for this to come back so I can finally port the f out of TPG!

    • +6

They will charge you $11 for porting out, and you will surrender any call credit you have. Just an FYI.

      • -1

Yeah I know ffs -_- Already booked an appointment with the TIO

        • +4

What they're doing isn't actually illegal btw. It's in the T&C you agreed to.

The only reason they will accomodate you if you threaten to go to the TIO is because they will be charged $40 processing fee no matter whether they are guilty or not. They are not breaking any laws, but they don't want to be charged $40, so they will waive your fee. If they were doing something illegal they would have stopped doing it long ago because the TIO would have fined them. The fact that they continue doing this means they're within their rights.

The system is broken and it favors you over them.

Not that I'm saying TPG aren't dodgy. They are very dodgy. It's just that their dodginess isn't illegal.

        • What about the "deposit"? Heard they were trying to keep that too after changing t&c? Also, do you know if they pro-rate the month you port out? I've been with TPG for years, but bought the Lebara 12 month deal from last week. Thinking of sneaking onto this first.

        • @danyool:

The deposit is $20, which used to get topped up when it drops to $5, but later got changed to top up at $10. None of it is refundable. So let's say you are down to $10.01 credit, you only lose $10.01. Before, if you were at $5.01 you only lose your $5. So when they raised it to $10, they effectively stole $5 from every customer. Because instead of a minimum $5 you can't get back, it's become $10 you can't get back. And if you're unlucky enough that they top you up just before you leave, you lose $20.

They ripped me off for years, topping me up when I know I didn't use my phone.

If you have a home phone with them, it's a separate $20 deposit pool, not the same one.

I don't know why they're allowed to get away with keeping your deposit, but they are.

If you have internet with them, they're even dodgier. They will require 30 days notice to terminate you. If you terminate immediately, they will still charge you another 30 days for no service. And they took 2 months to releasing my landline number for porting. They wanted to charge me the entire time while it was porting.

I used them for 8 years but would never recommend them to anyone anymore.

        • Hmm, yeah, thought so. Years ago when we joined I'm sure it was a real deposit you could get back, but they changed their terms. I think people were complaining and could get it back.

I've generally been happy with them (mobile only), just the value has declined and now much better elsewhere.

    • Cheers added to post :)

    • I hope not!

    • +1

I haven't activated last one yet (wait for last day) and new one comes

  • Got one, thanks

  • +7

For those wondering: After purchasing this product, you will be sent a unique Kogan Mobile voucher by email and a Kogan Mobile SIM Starter Pack by post. Once you have a Kogan Mobile SIM Card, simply visit the Kogan Mobile activation centre to redeem your unique voucher. The voucher will make your EXTRA LARGE 30 Day plan free.

    • +12

You can stock up on SIMs free of charge, then just use one you have already and activate with the code you received via email. :)

      • I do this. Just got to keep track of them all!

        • +6

If you're with Outlook, you can make use of the "alias" feature. No need to make new email accounts, and you can delete them after you receive the sim.

Also, if you use gmail, the process is even easier. If your email is [email protected], just add a + and some stuff after like [email protected]

      • Do you mean that if I am wIth Kogan now, I can simply recharge using the voucher?

      • What do u mean can i get multiple vouchers and use them? How do they track "new customers"

      • Do these free SIMs have expiry dates?

        • +1

So technically we can buy 12 of these and use the vouchers each month to get this price for 12 months?

        • @hpkv:
I don't know as I have never tried it.

        • +1

@hpkv: Be aware of the expiry date which is 15/08/2017. So at most you will be able to get 2 months at $1 each.

    • +1

I had to ring up to activate (a lot of people have issue with the Credit Card bit), but after about 10 minutes on the phone it all worked out.

      • I had that problem aswell, however it was my mistake I was putting lowercase in the credit card "Name on card" section.

        • Yeah, something wrong with the CC part on their website. I tried to activate a different SIM under a different name and CC still didn't work. Tried all number of ways to enter the name.

Called up and gave them default names of everything and worked. A bit annoying, but only annoying part of Kogan so far.

  • +6

    Thanks OP.

On an unrelated note, it is SO DAMN infuriating that Kogan resubscribes you to promo emails automatically after every order.

    • +3

With 14G @ $1 isn't it worth the agonising pain?

  • thanks op

  • Thanks, Got one.

  • NICE! just in time as i've ran out of the old ones lol

  • thnx op

  • +2

I know it says new customers only but has anyone managed to activate one while already a member?
I signed up the the 365 day plan but could do with the 14gb to do some updates in the home as we don't have a data plan, just the mobiles which we tether.

    • +5

As far as I can tell it's limited by new activations. I've activated two SIMs on the same email, with the same details and bought through the same Kogan account.

      • So two per email?

        • +2

I've done about 4 with the same email/details too so not sure if there's a limit or what the limit is..

        • 4 per credit card per 30 days

        • @Beach Bum: wow thanks!

        • +1

I haven't attempted a third yet, though my assumption was it's only limited to new activations, rather than any kind of "one per a person" limit.

        • @jhk365: it's actually supposed to be five per month but if you go over your card is banned for 30 days
Try once again in 29 days because you forgot , banned for a further 30 days
So write reminder on sim pack

  • +1

thanks. dumb question, so I get this right - you get all of this for each month only for a $1 p/month ?

    • +1

      $1 first month only.

      • what's the charge after that?

        • +2

Something like $44.90 from memory, better off looking for either 365day Kogan deals or Optus 25% off ($30/mo for 12GB) deals.

        • @dyl:

Can you easily move between Kogan prepaid plans after the first month? Ie; drop down to something cheaper?

        • @dyl: I thought this is prepaid and it stops working after 30 days?

        • @bargainist:

Correct (assuming you don't enable auto recharge, careful throughout activation process).

        • @goingDHfast:
It's prepaid, you simply recharge at a lower rate. Just ensure you don't enable auto recharge throughout activation.

  • Can i use this as a new customer and then after a month go on the 365 deal?

    mixo

    • Thats what i did last time so yes. I think the 365 day voucher acts as a recharge voucher.

      • The 365 deal does not say it requires a new user however can anyone else confirm?

        • +1

Can confirm you can recharge with the 365 day voucher (of any size)

  • how do you get around the max 5 optus activations

    • +1

Once you dont recharge your old sims, they expire and are knocked off your active sims list.

  • ordered 2 in a 1 order

    • Does it include 2 Sim card?

      • I don't know how come I can make 2 vouchers and 2 packs sim card in an one order? but it's done.

        • How did you add two vouchers?

        • just add 1 deal to cart and colsed website then back to ozbargain to go the link again, add 2nd deal to cart, so i can see 2 vouchers and 2 pack sim card

        • @jhk365: two emails will work perfectly.

    • Didn't work for me. But made two orders without any problems.

      • Using two different emails?

        • same email

  • I guess we need to create new email address to get the $0 Sim card as well?

    • In the last deal I ordered about 10 over a 2 week period with the same email addres and no problems there.

But you do have to activate the sim with a diferent debit / credit card every 4 activations.

      • Would it be a problem if my dc/cc is under a different name? (I changed my legal surname, changed it for pretty much everything except for bank accounts)

I usually use my driver's licence/Medicare for these ID checks.

Edit: just read below, looks like it has to match.

        • +1

Try putting your name that you used to sign up with Kogan on the dc/cc and see if it works. Even if the name dosnt match the one the cc/db.

As long as on Kogans website the names match, you sould be fine.

Just type in you Name and your new legal surname in all the fields that ask for a name / surname.

          👍🏼

  • ordered one. thanks

  • Thanks I was on my last one.
As i use them for data only every month I just activate one every month in my name with a new number.

    • But doesn't the deal expire at the end of this month… so if you activate next month you won't get all the data

      • That's when they stop selling them, the vouchers expire a bit later.

  • Great deal. Anyone know if these Kogan sims work in a Vodafone Pocket WiFi modem?

    • +1

yes it does. I've been using it for weeks. Just make sure your modem is unlocked

  • -6

Last time I couldn't activate this piece of crap sim card after trying 3 different credit cards so I had to chuck it in the bin. Be warned. The activation/payment process is excruciating.

    • +3

yes, this is true. was hit and miss for me, but my prepaid qantas mastercard seem to have the most success

      • +2

        I tried:
        Westpac Visa
        Westpac Amex
        Commbank Visa debit card
        28 Degrees Visa Credit Card

        Multiple browsers

After 1 hour I chucked the piece of @#$@ in the bin

        • +18

Can you PM me the unused code?

        • +2

          @dan76n: Look, there's an opportunist here :P

        • Why didn't you just ring the help desk?

        • @techboy: His number was never active to make the call…

Dont ask, why he didnt email them? As I have no idea about it..

        • @Gaggy: You do realise that there are other ways to make a phone call?, Home Phone, other mobile phone, phone box…..

        • +2

Had the same issue, the problem was that the name that you put along with the credit card has to match exactly the name that you filled in the first page of the activation procress.

          Ie. name: John Smith

Name as on credit card : John Smith.

If you put Mr John Smith, that messed it up for me…

          Good luck

        • After 1 hour I chucked the piece of @#$@ in the bin

I saw a beggar in the city with an iPhone, either 6 or 7. I gave mine to him.

        • @dan76n: Wouldn't it have expired?

        • @jaurwin:

Is dc/cc the only form of ID check? No driver's licence?

        • +1

          @CVonC:
Yeah drivers/passport for ID check, but the dc/cc is for payment. (They take $1 from your card then refund it a few days later to check authenticity or whatever)

        • @4KGrubby:

Thanks for replying. So it would be a problem if my last name is different on my dc/cc then eh?

        • @CVonC:
Give it a go, but I would say yes as I've personally had issues with the credit card (the customer support team said name on dc/cc had to match exactly the name of the account holder of the mobile number being ported and also the name you enter at the first part of the sign up section) so make sure to check with your current telco what name they have, and see if you can have it match your dc/cc.
Of course my issue was probably due to activating too many $1 sims on the same debit card :/
P.s someone here mentioned they had issues with the dc/cc section when trying to activate on their mobile browser, but worked fine when using desktop, so give that a go. I'm going to try it on desktop myself this time as last time when I had problems I was trying to activate on mobile browser. Also note: if you have an issue with the dc/cc section and you are sure you put the names in correctly, don't keep trying, Kogan team said every attempt counts as a successful activation, and you are only allowed 4-5 every 30 days or so.

        • @CVonC:
          Or Medicare

    • Worked all 5 times for me

    • +3

It's only a $1 deal! Hardly worth getting that upset over. Did you contact Kogan to resolve issue?

Activation went straight through for me - very easy.

    • +1

I had this problem when I tried to activate using the browser on my phone. The moment I go to my desktop it works with no issues.

    • User error :)

    • -2

Don't know why you are being negged. Sometimes 'Negging' a deal could be to warn users. To have visible comments (Red - mark) out of so many ones.

To neg a deal, one must comment. Maybe its time to put in mandatory comments for negging the 'FIRST NEG Comment'? To justify why one differs.

      • +2

He didn't even contact customer support to try to work it out. There is a guideline for neg voting. His issue is he just didn't bother. There is nothing wrong with the deal. I had the same issue activating, after contacting support, the problem was my previous account name didn't have my middle name in it. Contact the old telco and update my account, port out no problem after. This is not a valid reason to neg a deal..

    • Same thing happened to me, I realised it was from the name for card and simcard have to be the same. Could be as simple as Miss or Mrs being ticked off differently.

  • Perfect timing, thanks OP.
