    Did a bit of research.

New A119S firmware to optimise image quality - https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/a119s-optimized-image-…

Firmware for A119 that gives parking mode (will come soon to A119S) - https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/viofo-parking-mode-new…

    • What does the parking mode do? I have an a118c and parking mode (which I haven't set up yet) and from what I read on that it was only motion sensing, and that means it's catching every car that drives past. Is it something else now?

    • +1

Replying so I can bookmark this. Thanks.

    • Thanks! From recent discussion in the same thread, newer firmware (v1.7) was released 22/06/17

      http://support.viofo.com/support/solutions/articles/19000047…

  • Thanks OP. Bought 1. Never had a dash cam before. Seems like a good investment.

    • +1

I got into my first ever crash (rear ended on the motorway) and even though I was hit from behind, my forward facing dashcam was able to very quickly prove I was not at fault.
      Very much worth it!

      • Can you tell us more please? Is it because at the time of the accident, your camera showing you were not reversing ?

        • +1

It showed that I stopped safely behind the car in front of me, despite the speed. Then a about 1.5 seconds later, bang. Just meant there was no questioning my innocence.

        • @theguyrules: having said d that it would be highly unlikely that you wouldn't have been paid out for that

        • Still nice to have.

For those who don't know how to install hard wire kit here is a video
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3I9FZL8btqc

    • Thanks, so this way it would only turn on while your in the car. I'd be interested to know how to wire into battery direct.

      • +1

Just select the fuse that is always ON. For example you can select locking door fuse, this fuse is always on and it listens to remote signal.
you can look into your car manual to see which fuse slots are always ON.

        • Awesome thank you. Sounds like this is easy enough to do myself. Will freak me out as it's a new car though…

        • +1

@bargdebarg: if you want to play safe you can buy one of those fuse splitter. You can just plug this in your existing fuse socket, then you can connect this to your GPS wire. This way you can keep existing fuse as well as use second fuse for GPS.

Ebay link (Make sue you buy right size fuse for your car): http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-x-Add-A-Circuit-Standard-ATM-Mini-…

        • @AshFon: thanks!

  • Noticed that this was previously shipping from Shenzhen, Guangdong, China but is now shipping from Sydney and buyers can now also select Click and Collect from Woolworths now. I guess, all early buyers will also get their purchases ahead of schedule now.

  • Pardon my ignorance but item location says Sydney. Am i missing something here?

    • Till about 3pm today, it was coming from China but I guess they may have bulked shipped to Sydney for local distribution rather then ship internationally.

      • Thanks for explaining..made it look like a local dealer

    • I would be wary of this. Seems like a ploy to get more orders.
A lot of Chinese eBay listings have Sydney as their item location but ship from China.

Can you plug this into the smoke lighter port, or does it have to be wired into a fusebox?
Edit: I'm sitting on the confirm and pay screen in paypal pending the answer :)

    • +1

Yes can be plugged in to the cigarette plug.

      • Thanks!

        • Just ensure the power to the cigarette plug goes off when your car is turned of. Found out power to my cars plug is always on therefore camera never turned off.

    • look at the ebay ad, scroll all the way down and you'll see what comes in the box, micro usb and a dual port usb cig lighter.
Otherwise you can use the hardwire kit and wire it to your ignition accessories wire which will pretty much do exactly as the usb cig lighter adapter.

      • I'm a totally noob to car and dashcam. Could you explain why hardwire is better than using a cig lighter Port? Will it drain up the car battery?

        • Offhand:

-you can use your lighter socket for something else
-you don't have a messy wire because you can hide it behind trim
-you have the option of the camera working when the car is off (which usually isn't the case with lighter power)
-the kit includes a device that will stop the camera working if the battery drops to a point where you may not be able to start the car if it goes lower

  • What SD card do you guys recommend for this dash camera?

    • +1

Someone above said samsung evo or any of the dedicated high usage cards

  • Does this come with a warranty?

  • +1

What are the advantages of using a hardwire vs cigarette plug?

    • Cig plug turns off when the engine is off. It also uses up the cig plug, and looks annoying having the wire there.

Hardwire is more work and requires more skill.

      • If the hardwire is connected to the accessory fuse slot, then wouldn't the dashcam be off when you switch off the ignition? I assume you connect the hardwire to an accessory fuse slot.

  • Why is heating such an issue for dashcams?
I've read comments on ozbargain about heating, and this one talks about how awesome the capacitors are for not overheating.

    • It's an issue when the car sits in the sun during the day.

    • Because batteries often fail and leak when too hot. It should be mentioned that all these cams are not run directly from power, they have a small battery or capacitor that the power passes through

    • Increased operating tempretures decrease lithium battery life
      https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4526891/

    • -2

Its an issue for chinese hardware and batteries.

If you purchase a well known Australian brand it will work fine but be prepared to pay 3-5x the price.

  • Mine has now been sent and I have the following: Estimated delivery Fri, 23 Jun

Looks like local stock to me.

    • when did you order?

      • 6Hrs 25mins ago. I think back then it still said delivered from overseas.

        • oh ok… I wonder if it's worth to buy from another seller with express post but without the hardwire kit.

  • +1

Can anyone recommend a decent, well priced micro sd card that works with this unit?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sandisk-8GB-16GB-32GB-64GB-Micro-…

  • Just as I was looking for dash can. Was thinking of blackvue but how good is this one?

  • Hmm i bought off the other ebay link that was deleted-why was it deleted.. was it not okay?

    • also wondering this? do you have the link, i wanted to see what it was to compare…

      • It was the same price but with Syd stock, express post delivery, and local warranty but no hardwire kit.

        • That was it. If im allowed to post link i will.. but dont think so?

        • +2

          @richmond12:

The guy that "found" the amazing deal, was also the seller of that deal.

        • @richmond12: thanks, but found it by accident trawling earlier comments

      • +1

        The link was: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/292121696417
And for the record, I'm not associated with any dashcams sellers. So I can see zero reason that I'm not allowed to post that link.

        • Item is now saying:

"This seller is currently away until 23 Jun, 2017. If you make a purchase, there may be a delay in processing your order."

        • +2

That guy was here sockpuppeting earlier. Do you really want to buy from someone like that?

        • @BarginHunter:

Personally I'd be ok with buying it. Objectively speaking it's still arguably a "better" product (local warranty, shipped quicker).

Would've been good if he had declared that he was the actual seller but it's kinda like just because a car dealer's dodgy, doesn't mean he sells dodgy stock and just because he's nice and friendly doesn't mean he sells good stock.

        • +2

@illumination: I get what you're saying but for me, it's like if he's being dishonest and dodgy here, I can only imagine what would happen if you needed support or there was an issue with the transaction.

        • Got mine today. Happy with it. Got a free hardwire kit too!

    • I think it was marked as "sockpuppeting"

    • The seller was just being "dodgy" by constantly promoting his own product, but I don't believe there was actually anything wrong with it.

  • Thanks, just grabbed one

  • +1

this is a good deal, can't help but think that a118c would actually suit my needs as a dashcam for a lower cost - 'good enough' quality for insurance purposes even though much worse resolution than this one, still reliable and well reviewed etc. if i wait for a deal to come up for the a118c i'm thinking i could probably get a front and rear cam that way for not much more than an a119s

    • If you drive at night time the A118C is pretty horrible with dark roads.
I'd recommend the A119 or A119S over the A118C any day.

    • This was my thinking precisely, picked it up for 40 a while ago but haven't had a chance to install yet. Could have been 40 USD

    • +1

I have the A118 and its rubbish at night. With that said it would still prove if i was in the wrong, you just dont get the detail and absolutely forget about getting number plates

      • good point about night quality from you and unco, i guess my reasoning is - why do you even need to get number plates, if you're insured? it does a favour for your insurance company sure, but as long as the footage shows you aren't at fault, thats all you need right?

        • Definitely that's all you need. Some just like the added features, clarity etc.

        • If the other person does a runner then you can't claim against their insurance and have to pay your own excess.

  • I kept resisting but cannot any longer.

Are you guys getting the CPL filter? Is it necessary?

    • i got one only coz i know the reflection on my dash is very annoying and obstructing, it all depends on your car and the dash.

      • Thanks mate, will look out for a CPL filter deal as I just bought the kit listed above.

If you do know of any place where I can get a genuine one please do let me know.

  • Thanks op, bought two. One for me, one the for the wife. Been waiting to pop on a DC for months. Idiot tailgating and overtaking me over double white lines this morning + this deal pushed me over the edge…

    • +1

      +1 It's worth having.
I got reversed into by a van a few months ago. Been meaning to buy one ever since!

      • If I can install easily enough I'll get another two for rear coverage next deal…

  • How have people hard-wired their dash cams? (I have a 2010 Prado).

  • +3

Purchased one from the Ozzy seller(With express post) and one from the China seller (Shipping via UBI). The chinese seller shipped it the same day. The Ozzy seller still hasnt shipped it even though the advertised ETA for me to receive it was today. Whats the point of offering Express post if you dont ship it?
The seller if a member here by the looks of it so I hope hes reading this

    • I'm in the same boat. I contacted the seller and they confirmed it will be sent this Thursday 22nd June. Hopefully I get it Friday or Monday next week.

Message now reads "This seller is currently away until 24 Jun, 2017. If you make a purchase, there may be a delay in processing your order." It originally said 23 Jun 2017.

The price has also gone up to $140.99

      • Received mine today with free hardwire kit. All working ok!

    • Yep, I think he has might have been caught short on stock or something?

    • +1

      he was a dodgy seller.

    • He's gonna get it shipped from chinese seller first and forward it to you. Better cut the middle man.
In many cases that had happened to me, no such thing as local warranty. Most of them would only give you partial refund when you receive a faulty product.

      • I don't think that's the case because the Aussie seller was (initially) $0.50 cheaper than the China seller and the Aussie seller used express post but no hardwire kit.
I didn't go with the local seller because I wanted the hardwire kit.

When I bought, the Aussie seller actually increased the price to $120.99 - not sure why. Today I checked the price is $140.99 :)

    • Same for me..

  • Msg I received thru ebay for the local stock guy re comments above:

New message from: feelrainyday (873 )

Dear xxxxxx, due to urgent personal circumstances i will be out of office till Friday this week, all orders will be dispatched as soon as i return. These with express shipping options will be prioritised and compensated with our Viofo hard wire kit free of charge. really sorry for the inconveniences that may caused and deeply appreciate your understanding and patience.

    regards

    Vic from Topgears_Sydney

    • Its now Friday. Has anyone had their purchased item shipped from Vic?

      • Yes, I was very relieved to receive mine today, along with the free hardwire kit as promised to appease for the delay. Phew!

        • Mine is still not shipped. Starting to get pissed

        • @Obione: I ordered at 4pm on the 19th, when did you order?

        • @affable @Obione: I ordered at 2pm on 19th and he didn't send mine out until after he got back 23rd so i didn't receive it until 27th. He obviously doesnt post out in order.
Also, since you received it on 23rd, he must have sent it out on 22 or 21st at latest since it was free express post. Something not right here

      • EDIT…oops…wrong item

  • Ordered from the Chinese seller. Shipped already.

    • Does the tracking show place of origin?

      • Gave me an AusPost tracking number but when I click on it, it says 'pending – no events yet’

      • I purchased from the link in the OP. In the ebay app it shows tracking history, and it shows it came shipped from SHENZHEN (2d ago), then to AusPost (1d ago). AusPost app says "Your parcel is coming" and received by AusPost yesterday. So for me it's almost here, although there is no estimated delivery date yet or current location within Aus.

        • Thank you and BarginHunter as well

  • Hi All,

Hoping to buy a dashcam but have some very noob questions. As a preface I'm a confessed nerd and don't know about cars/electronics.

    1. My fuse box has a few "spare" fuses at 10A but the power outlet is 15A, can I just use the spare fuse?
    2. Do all of you use an electrician to install or diy? If safe to DIY, how do I actually connect the red wire into one of the fuses? Do I just take the fuse out and jam the wire in, then force the fuse back in?
    3. Similar to above, how do people ground the black wire? I see there's a bolt below the fusebox… can I just use electrical tape to tape it there?
