I just flew back a few days ago as I locked in the last Hainan deal - paid $308 for Syd to Beijing transfer in Changsha, Beijing to Xian, Xian to Sydney for $308 inc all fees….alcohol, 2 full meals and OK IFE….u cant complain for the price. The only thing that irrirated me was the planes were at least 30 degrees inside and the locals were wearing jumpers whilst the few westerners onboard were sweating like we were in a sauna. but honestly…flight was totally fine.

  • from sydney?

  • Wow, perth same dates $446

  • can you stay in singapore?

Pretty sure you'll lose the promotional rate to China if you do a multi booking.

BUT - I booked a return flight with a 20 hour layover in Singapore for the Formula 1.

      try using a travel agent.
they can usually do it at the same price with a stopover.

      • Which travel agent can do that? What's yours?

        • Just a local Chinese one.

Last time there was a special from Syd->Korea for $780 return with Cathay.
Using the travel agent to book it, I went Syd->Busan(via HK) and then Seoul->HK(stopover of 4 days) and then HK->Syd for $780.

There's no way I could get this price booking online by myself, but it was easily done by going to a travel agent.
I'm guessing this is something that can be normally by travel agents? Maybe ask around.

        • I wanna know either

    • thanks

  • Subscribe fares alert at Skyscanner and you will frequently get fares around $330 round trip with China Eastern or Air China.
I once got $260 round trip with Air China to Shanghai.

    • Thats a decent deal..

  • Anyone can recommend me a VPN to be used in Shanghai? and how fast is the internet speed over there compared to Australia? Thanks

    • +4

Express VPN is generally the best choice as they don't experience dropouts like many other VPNs. It is also one of the few that actually works within China. Just a note be sure to set up prior to arriving in China.

      • Thanks !

      • are VPNs legal to use in the PRC? Just curious!

      • Not sure if your on Vodafone but the 4G on the $5 day roaming was the blessing of the century - hotel wifi is SHOCKING in china as i just returned last week. Nothing seemed to be blocked on the 4g roaming, but everything on the wifi didnt work….or crazy slow. Also their infrastructure truly does make the rest of the world seem third world…amazing road, super clean streets, highways, bullet trains everywhere, amazing 4g speeds and air pollution that would kill any birdlife.

    • Faster than here in general, at least free wifi on the metro

    • Only need vpn for gmail access. Use a trip to china to get away from facebook co.

    • I used astrill when I lived there. It was ok, at times it would be down though.

Overall, the internet was rubbish - unless you wanted to access local sites, but anything remotely international would take forever….oh and as it gets into the colder season, you'll be wanting some face masks as the pollution is quite bad. Water is also laden with very heavy metals too..
