This is a newly released lens and already on sale. Widest lens for the Sony E mount range.

As my previous post (I thought I'd keep it separate since they are different stores), Camera House are also having a 15% off Sony items for 4 days. Prices seem cheaper at CameraPro, but less stock.

But some items they don't have. So here are some more
Sony 1.4x Teleconverter for GM 70-200 f2.8 - $764.15
Sony 2.0x Teleconverter for GM 70-200 f2.8 - $764.15

Sony RX100m3 - $849.15 + BONUS $100 EFTPOS

F4 no good, F2.8 bring it. Light is king. Just my opinion, don't be swayed.

And a 12-24 f2.8 GM would be ridiculously big and expensive.

        So what?

        • It wouldn't be very user friendly or economical…
They have to be able to sell it and I'm sure they've done their market research.
You sound like someone that just buys gear for the sake of buying it, which is ok. But like the poster below said there's no need for 2.8 UWA when you would be using a tripod anyway.
Alternatively if you're not being a troll maybe take a look at the Laowa primes 12mm f2.8 and the 15mm f2 coming out.

        • "You sound like someone that just buys gear for the sake of buying it"
You may be right, Jinx. Thank you for the reference to those fast primes, I'll check them out.

Why would you need a F2.8 for ultra wide? I would mainly use this lens for architecture and landscape with a tripod. Video I find it distorts too much to be useful unless the subject is spot on centered

      There's a GM 16-35 f2.8 if you really need a F2.8

I told you, light is king. More is….more.
I'm just a low light kinda guy. What can I say, it's an illness.

      • Astrophotography. Though unfortunately Sony's firmware updates have ruined Astrophotography on what was a brilliant platform that I once drooled over.

        • even with the latest Firmware update it still not fixed.

        • @whtbox:

Yes. Very disappointing. I have lusted for the A7S since its release but couldn't justify it. I no longer lust.

        • Would F2.8 fast enough for astrophotography?

I've used the 28f2 and it was alright - first time using it for astrophotography and learning what was the best settings. I would of thought something like an f2 or wider would be more suitable to get the most out of the stars since the earth's rotation moves ever so slightly…enough to make the stars blur.

        • @KitchenSink:

With f/2 and wider you often have to contend with coma wide open, and also the lens not being at it's sharpest. You can look up how to work out maximum exposure based on the focal length before you get blur. If you want longer focal lengths or longer exposures you have to look at stacking images and/or using a mount that will track the stars/counter earth's rotation. For shorter focal lengths you can make what's called a barn door mount that you manually operate. For longer exposures it gets very expensive as you need a proper telescope mount that is rock steady. Look up Losmandy mounts.

    • Always the f2.8 Batis 18mm…. Prime lens and not as wide of course, but wide enough for most tasks.

    • what about F0.0001

  • There's a 10mm F5.6 Voigtlander for the Sony FE mount. Unless you meant Sony branded.

  • I just watched Kai's review of this lens. Looks good. Way out of my price range though. I'm still saving for a 70-200f4.

  • G lenses don't qualify for the 15% off. The saving is only off the arbitrary RRP and not street price.

This is more my flavour, maybe not 12mm, but who cares when there's this much light flowing through such great optics.

    And..haha..$999

APS-C lens…different focal length + crop factor. Yes the aperture its wider.

On a FF camera its equivalent to 27-52.5mm

      • Bugger, missed that. I may need to check my own optics!

The 55mm f1.8 is a pretty good price for new, especially with the eftpos card offer from Sony. I got mine second hand off ebay for about $880 ($800 ish with the the 10% off sitewide offer.) about a month ago

    It's a fantasticly sharp lens

  • Listed as $2,229 here - https://www.e-infin.com/au/item/3335/sony_fe_12-24mm_f/4_g_lens_full_frame_e-mount_(sel1224g)?gclid=Cj0KEQjwv_fKBRCG8a3ao-OQuZ8BEiQAvpHp6IwW-iG5oOyfd_HvuXk9F74ZHhFPD5b5w0KXZpm9yt0aAt7z8P8HAQ

    • Grey importer. I'm not familiar with the shop either.

      • I've bought from them, and had no issues, but the price difference is minimal so would go local….

        • If you buy a lens >$1000 from them is it subject to GST?

        • @KitchenSink: yep. Might slip through, but have to assume it won't.
