Great unit, ordered when eBay had 15% off. Purchased from same seller, ordered on Saturday and received on Wednesday.

If you do purchase it be aware that an English language pack is now available.

    • +1

Thanks mate may need your help with this when I get it :)

      Cheers!

    • Still waiting on my order, placed order same time the oz deal went up.

    • Hey how often do you have to empty it?

      • Every time it gets full….
It really depends on too many factors to say for certain, but I have a reasonable size 3 bed house and have the vac go automatically every week day (and manually on the weekends, if I remember when I'm out of the house) and usually empty mine once per week - the bin is normally quite full by then, but usually hasn't warned me that it needs emptying. If you have more mess being bought in (kids with muddy shoes, pets etc) then it will likely be more frequent.

  • +65

I hear Roboguy has a good deal on these.

    • -7

forget about it. everyone complaints about delay in shipping

      • +27

        You took the bait

        • +2

          yep he got sucked in

    • +29

I heard he retired to a resort in Bali, where he lives with the 100s of vacuums he never delivered.

    • +4

Feel sorry for all the people that got robof#@ed.

    • +2

Please don't joke about this. A lot of people are going through sleepless nights and dirty homes because of that deal.

On a positive note, my mum has forgotten about what I promised her for mothers day so once its delivered, I think I'll have mothers day 2018 sorted

  • Maybe a silly question, do these set off PIR security systems?
Ie. if i have the unit run during the day when my alarm is armed, will the PIR system go off?

    • +2

Doesn't that depend on your sensors and how sensitive they are? This unit is small but obviously moves around sometimes moves light furniture.

    • It triggers my xiaomi motion sensor.

    • If you have pet friendly PIRs it won't (My Bosch ones don't trigger)

      • Second this - have Bosch pet friendly PIRs and they don't care about the vac.

  • +1

Purchased one from this seller a few months ago while everyone else was swooning over the amazing roboguy and he delivered super-quickly. not sure how those roboguy fans are feeling right now but i love Mi Robot :-P

    • +4

      We're feeling pretty stupid actually… But waiting patiently… I'm still hopeful… (sorta)

      GC

    • Wondering if you have carpets to your house and how well the vacuum works? I have thick carpets to most rooms so a bit unsure if the vacuum is powerful enuf….

      • +2

I am more than impressed. We have a only one carpet (under the coffee table) which normally takes a bit of afford to remove all dog hairs with the normal vacuum. After the first round on MAX the carpet looked great. Did I mention that I am very impressed!!!

        • +1

So it's a simple climb from hardwood to carpet?

        • +2

@Dezeption: Yes, no issues at all. Even smaller "steps" like in doorways are no issue.

        • @Dezeption: mine climbs 12mm up from carpet to kitchen tiles with out a problem also the 12mm couch legs lie on the carpet and Rosie Jetson flies over them with ease. Amazing little gadget i love it and it does my small downstairs part of my unit in 17 minutes and only uses 15% of its power. Buy one they are great!

        • cheers for that.

      • +1

Works well on carpet but will get caught up in any rug tassels constantly and is hard to unwind the knots it makes.

        • Okay we don't have rugs so i guess it will be easier on the machine. Thanks for the heads up too.

    • We are feeling great. Because we ordered from this awesome seller during the last eBay sale and opened a paypal dispute with Robaguy. ;-)

  • +3

Got mine the other day. Haven't used it fully yet, but am very happy so far.

The only real down point is the Xiaomi MiHome app. It wants access to everything on your phone - contacts, images, phone state. So I reset an old phone just to put the app on. It does also require your WiFi password, but there's nothing I could do about that. All that to download the english language pack.

Pairing to WiFi took a couple of attempts. But watching in real time as your robot scans and vacuums your house is fun. The cleaning algorithm looks quite good. Better than my kids do, and far more obedient.

In terms of cleaning, there's one spot so far where the height of the couch is the perfect trap. High enough that the vacuum's bumper doesn't hit it, but low enough that as it goes along, it just gets wedged in there.

    • +1

Pretty sure it going to need your wifi password to connect to the network so can't hate on that and the apps permissions is because it's for the whole xiaomi ecosystem which do require them

      • +1

Here are the permissions on the Android app:

        Version 4.1.26 can access:
        Device & app history
        retrieve running apps
        Identity
        find accounts on the device
        add or remove accounts
        Contacts
        find accounts on the device
        read your contacts
        Location
        approximate location (network-based)
        precise location (GPS and network-based)
        SMS
        receive text messages (SMS)
        send SMS messages
        Phone
        directly call phone numbers
        read phone status and identity
        Photos/Media/Files
read the contents of your USB storage
modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
        Storage
read the contents of your USB storage
modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
        Camera
        take pictures and videos
        Microphone
        record audio
        Wi-Fi connection information
        view Wi-Fi connections
        Device ID & call information
        read phone status and identity
        Other
        interact across users
full license to interact across users
        transmit infrared
        modify secure system settings
        view network connections
        create accounts and set passwords
        pair with Bluetooth devices
        access Bluetooth settings
        change network connectivity
        allow Wi-Fi Multicast reception
        connect and disconnect from Wi-Fi
        disable your screen lock
        control flashlight
        full network access
        change your audio settings
        control Near Field Communication
        draw over other apps
        use accounts on the device
        control vibration
        prevent device from sleeping
        modify system settings
        install shortcuts
        uninstall shortcuts

So that's … a lot. Why could they need to read my contacts? Send SMS? Directly call numbers? Modify secure system settings?

I know it's necessary to give it the WiFi password. That's why I did it. But given the intrusive nature of the app alone, I'm worried that my WiFi password is compromised. Time for a change.

As a wider solution to the problem, I intend to stand up an IoT WiFi network in the house, and let things like this sit on there and talk to the Internet, but be treated as an untrusted network.

        • +9

Hey man, don't hate on IoT, it helped a small Silicon Valley start-up to create a decentralised internet.

        • +1

I am assuming that seeing its a general app for all their devices it needs access to say SMS, so you can read and send texts from the TV or their Tablet etc.

Would be good that android would ask permission at the time it needs this access so you can deny if you want.

        • @PVA:
Newer versions of Android (6.0+ I believe) do exactly that with granular permissions.

    • Can't you just deny all the app permissions?

  • Just here to vote +, bought from seller from the last ebay sale, vac arrive in approx 10 days. Not 60+ days(?) from roboguy. Still waiting for refund there.

    • Call up paypal and ask for a resolution immediately. Worked for me

      • Just on the phone with paypal now ;) "let me put you on hold while I ensure this is ruled in your favour".

        Thanks!

      • +3

We have concluded our investigation into your case and have decided in your
        favour.

We were able to recover $435.00 AUD, and this amount has been credited to
you. Please allow 5 business days for this adjustment to be posted.

If you are due any additional funds, we will make our best effort to
recover the balance from the seller.

If the seller's account has insufficient funds to complete the refund owed
to you, please be assured that we will take appropriate action against the
seller's account, which may include limitation of the seller's account
        privileges.

        • Hi Cray, can you please PM me what you wrote for the Paypal dispute. I havent raised many in my time and I was originally OK with waiting for Roboguy's extended delivery time again. But now thinking of all the people who got their money back, I doubt that if I run into any problems in the future that the 1 year warranty Aust warranty would be honoured.

        • @kza2610: Copied and pasted from paypal resolution centre. In reverse chronological order. 23/06 was when I started the dispute, but knowing Roboguy wont reply I escalated on 25/06 with the comments. Today made the call and got it resolved. In your case you might need to wait some time for the money be refunded as you're only putting in the dispute now, but if I were you I'll still do as I know I'll definitely get my money back and I'm not 100% sure if I'll get the vac if I choose to continue waiting.. Good luck!

25/06/2017 19:34 AEST - PayPal: Buyer escalated this dispute to a Claim.
25/06/2017 19:34 AEST - Buyer: Seller initially indicated that item will arrive within 30 days. It is now past 30 days and seller did not communicate the delays to myself or other buyers over email other than via a public forum.
23/06/2017 12:20 AEST - Buyer: I would like a refund as stated on my email.I simply cannot wait another month due to delays from your end and your vague responses have been shocking. No more opportunities for surprises. Please refund ASAP. Thanks for your cooperation and good luck with the business

Got mine from shoppingsquare ebay 15% off, arrived beginning of the week, best investment. It's only job is the vacuum my bedroom everyday!

    • You must do some pretty dirty things in that bedroom that it needs a daily clean… :p

  • +4
    • Perhaps you should add beaware of roboguy's roboscams unless you want to be (profanity)!

      • +1

        Go ahead, it's a wiki

  • +1

Great seller. Got mine in the last sale and it's literally running as we speak. Brilliant vac.

Any deals on the magnetic virtual wall tape? Seems to be around $16-$18 for 2m, but the ETA from China is usually 30+ days and if you want it sooner, postage is a killer.

    • +3

I found Zapals to be cheap: https://www.zapals.com/xiaomi-mi-robot-vacuum-virtual-wall.h… - otherwise look for it on ebay and leave it in your watchlist/cart for the next 15% off sale :)

      • Yeah good price (and 8% cashrewards) but still $5.26 shipping for 7-45 days. Will take a punt and hope it's closer to 7 than 45! DHL is 3-7 days but it's $21.99.
I'm not sure if it's got another name, but I have been unable to find a single listing for the tape on eBay…

Edit: Actually $7.33 shipping 7-30 days as the standard shipping is unavailable for some reason.

    • +1

Have you tried using a fridge magnet?

      • I haven't tried yet. A review I watched demonstrated that generic magnetic tape and magnets didn't work - it had to be the Xiaomi brand tape (which may be a certain gauss or polarity or some other magic). I'll give fridge magnets a go and report back.

        • +1

I used a large magnet extracted from an old HDD - works perfectly in any orientation so the polarity shouldn't make any difference. Tried a few smaller magnets and they didn't do much so I believe it's just the strength that matters.

  • is GearBest and GearBites ti same? will we have GearUp soon?

  • Great timing! Thanks! Had only just got the email this morning from PayPal that my claim against Roboguy was successful.

    Also ordered http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/142348570131

  • Got one from previous ebay deal (same seller). This thing is AMAZING.

  • Purchased recently from same seller. Highly recommended.

  • Thanks OP, just ordered one. Will report back with a mini review in two weeks!

  • Do I need four vacuums? No.

    Want? Yes

    • Arm them with weapons and let them battle it out.

      Video it and upload.

      Profit….

      • Lol, 3 aren't robotic. One handstick, shopvac Ave Dyson barrel

  • Great deal ! So frustrating :( as I'm still waiting on RoboGuy to come through. Could have ordered one of these.

  • +1

anyone got any good deals on where to buy the virtual wall strip for these? I found Zapals have it the cheapest, but they have a shockingly low review rating…

    • i would also like to know!!

    • Surprisingly Aliexpress was very expensive, $20+.
Zapals is by far the cheapest, but like you, I was not impressed by the reviews so stood clear.

In the end I went with gearbest. $18 delivered, or throw on $2-3 for tracked, 7-15 day delivery.
But then again, I had $10 worth of points to redeem so was a no brainer for me.

Now if you want the accessory pack (2x filters, 2x sweepers and 1x roller), Aliexpress is by far the cheapest for $30 per pack.
Do your shopping though. One seller offers free shipping, 30-45days… Another seller at the same price offers free shipping with tracked airparcel, 15-20 days.

  • These are awesome. Absolutely worth it.

  • Missed out the last 15% off sales and got one today! Can't wait for it to arrive

  • Ordered one and chose to pickup from nearby woolies

  • After a week of heavy research on robo vacs I finally decided on this.
    Then this deal pops up.
    Must be fate.
    Bought.

    • +2

How about a + vote for 'fate' then? ;)

      • ;)

  • compared to a Neato botvac?

    • only about 50000000000000000000000 better

  • +1

Do robo vacs replace regular vacs or are they more of a supplement to regular vacuuming?

Can it do the whole house by itself or do you need to move it around to each room manually?

    • I would encourage you to watch a some youtube videos and get all your answers.

    • yes, whole house, but it depends on your house set up.

    • I haven't used my dyson since march after I got my one.

      • +1

I haven't vacuum my house since I got married :)

        • -1

          You found the perfect husband?

        • @angre: No. Perfect wife. Plus I got Xiaomi mi robot vacuum as wedding gift.))

    • I don't have to vacuum anymore.

    • +1

For hardfloor it's good enough to replace regular vacuuming, I'm still amazed at how much stuff it picks up even on daily basis. Gets you into the habit of not leaving stuff laying around everywhere also since you'd most likely want to set it up on a schedule. Mines set up to auto vac every second day.

On carpet it's more of a supplement but you can most prob get away week bi weekly vacuuming instead of weeklys.

    • I've found it's replaced regular vacuuming completely except for the areas it can't get to (small corner between lounges that has no opening for it to go through, beside the toilet which doesn't have the width for the vac to get in to etc). I'm quite sensitive to dust (allergies and the likes) and have carpeted bedrooms, and have noticed no issues with dust.

      • Me too. I'm shocked at how much dog hair and dust this unit picks up even if i run it every second day. I'm thinking of running it daily now

  • Does anyone know if this does well with long hair that has dropped on the floor? I have a Dyson and it's a pain to pull out hair from it.

    • Roller is easy to remove, just a push tab thing from memory on the bottom. Not that Dyson is difficult, just needs a coin. After that just get a scissors and cut length ways. I use another vacuum to suck up the hair after cutting though which makes it really quick and easy.

  • Got mine from the same seller in 10 days delivered to Perth!

  • fyi i had multiple issues trying to find the device until i switched server to mainland china [from USA] then selected the robot under search for devices

the female english language pack is a nice touch and the options are at least in english for the main functions now so its much easier app to use

  • Does anyone know where i can get the quick setup guide in english? Got mine this week but have not had a chance to use it yet. Bought from same seller from the previous deal.

    • +1

Please download mi home APP from IOS app store or Google play store. Then you can add devices, please choose mi Robot vacuum cleaner , it will set up easily.

    • +2

quick guide for you. Press on the power button on the unit, wait for the wifi light on the bot to show up blinking blue. Download the Xiaomi Mi Home app on your phone. Tap on the + button on the top right hand corner to add a new device. Scroll down and look for the pic of the robot vacuum and select it. Go through the prompts which are pretty self explanatory and you're good to go.

My app found that there's a new firmware as soon as I added mine and I tried to update it but kept on failing and the unit was trying to tell me what's wrong in Chinese, which didn't get anywhere. I then changed the language of the unit to speak in English and only then did it tell me that it didn't have enough battery juice at that stage to do the firmware upgrade, so just a heads up if you come across the same thing.

      • Thanks for the detailed instructions. Will try it out this evening.

    • Easy to just scan the qr code in the guide, it will automatically download the app.

    • Got mine today.
Found this English user manual online

      https://files.xiaomi-mi.com/files/vacuum_cleaner/vacuum_clea…

English manuals for other xiaomi products are available here

      https://xiaomi-mi.com/home/user-manuals/

  • How noisey are these guys?

    • not as noisy as a proper vacuum cleaner but you'd definitely notice it working ie. not silent if that's what you're after.

I've had mine for a couple of days now after getting the unit from a different seller after I got Robof'd from another deal and absolutely happy with it so far.
