Their domain name prices look expensive.

domains are always 99 cents at 1and1

No they're not. USD 99c for the first year for a .com and USD $14.99 a year after that.

NameCheap before the discount are USD $10.69 for the first year and USD $10.69 + USD $2.88 (discounts available) for the privacy protection in subsequent years. This is before the 20% off.

all domains include free whois privacy protection

No they're not free if you want to consider how much more expensive they are.

No surprise that JV upvoted you, he has not idea what he is commenting on.

you're a clown if you pay renewal fees to any registry, any normal person just jumps on 99 cent domains every 12 months. takes 5 mins to change.

you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, telling me 1and1 dont have free whois privacy.

I went from 1and1 99 cent for 12 months, to namecheap for 99 cents then back to 1and1 for 99 cents.

yet I must be wrong, maybe I was dreaming all these years I have been doing this

even if you use 1and1 for 12 months its 99 cents, IF you are lazy and pay another 12 months renewal… at 14 dollars… you're at what, 15 USD.

yours is ~10 + 12 for the same period of time. is maths your strong point at all because mine is still cheaper

      • +3

LOL…. Clearly you have domain names with zero value if you think that it's safe to jump from register to register all the time.

you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, telling me 1and1 dont have free whois privacy.

What part of they don't have free privacy when you consider how much more expensive they are is difficult to understand or can't you understand that USD $14.99 is more then USD $10.69+2.88?

I went from 1and1 99 cent for 12 months, to namecheap for 99 cents then back to 1and1 for 99 cents.

Good for you but you fail to notice that NameCheap offer a $1 discount off domain transfers so for a .com you pay USD $9.69. I suspect you are confused and think that the discount amount is what you paid.

        • namecheap have coupons for 1 dollar domains all the time

          here you go for instance.,

          CJCRMN35 – 35% off on all GoDaddy products/services coupon

there are literally dozens of 99 cent domains and many more coupons that make renewals way cheaper than this post. I paid 99 US cents for 1and1 including free whois guard (which is free on all domains) AND I paid 99 US cents for Namecheap plus $1 per year for whois protection with them.

If you pay these prices in the OP's post you are overpaying, I suspect you are the one who is confused. I also gather you know nothing about registries in general since you say changing registar has an affect on your site, it does not. Try learning about serps and how to ensure this doesn't happen, but I guess you'll close your eyes and pretend like you know everything when in reality you know nothing

Your negative vote is unwarranted and does not meet the guidelines. You are comparing a full service domain register who has a long history of reliability with a cut price register and further you continue to compare one aspect of their pricing with constant transferring of domain names using incentives. Not only is the cut price register you offered up as cheaper a lot more expensive you have not provided anything to show that prices are cheaper elsewhere for domain registering or their other services whilst taking into account their excellent support.

Why do you keep posting lies about NameCheap? You haven't posted anyone with a cheaper offering and now you claim that NameCheap support is terrible when I have been dealing with them for over 15 years and have dozens of domains with them and have found their support to be excellent.

You've never even posted a deal on OzBargain before despite claims to know all about cheap domain prices yet your posts show someone with zero knowledge.

          try reading the voting guidelines

So why don't you post someone cheaper then all of the products from NameCheap? Oh that's right you can't and will keep claiming that 1and1 and GoDaddy are cheaper when I have proven they are more expensive.

@Maverick-au: I posted two cheaper actually, 1and1 and godaddy. The fact you've 'been dealing with namecheap for 15 years' and you don't know that all of their support is based in the Ukraine doesn't surprise me

godaddy is 99 cents plus 9.99 renewal forever. thats FAR cheaper than this crap deal

Sheesh you really do have no idea do you. Proof once again that NameCheap is cheaper.

          .com domains
          * 1and1 - USD 99c first year and USD $14.99 each additional year.
          * NameCheap - USD $10.69 first year and USD $13.57 each additional year (in fact even cheaper with multiple domains as the whois privacy is a lot cheaper when you buy multiple)
          * GoDaddy - Only one domain transfer is $8.98 (inc $7.99 privacy) and any others are USD $18.98 (inc $7.99 privacy). Renewals are USD $22.98 to 27.99 (inc $7.99 privacy)

Because I've proven that it's not based in the Ukraine and that you lie to suit your agenda.

@Maverick-au: I posted coupons above for 99 cents domain registration and $9.99 renewal forever, you can't pick and choose RRP on products because it suits your agenda here.

If you knew what you were talking about you would know that Namecheap outsourced it's customer service and technical support to the Ukraine and is under a company called Zone3000. Here is some photographs of their offices https://foursquare.com/v/zone3000/4c0cdfac6c04b713d8115005/p… and https://vk.com/zone3000it (see the namecheap signs on the walls? go figure!)

if you have ever contacted support (you can do it right now to test it out!) ask the Ukrainian named person where they live, they will tell you (UKRAINE!)

I don't know why I am bothering to educate you on something that is common knowledge in this industry

        • @wingwang: what about .com.au domains or .co or .nz or .me?

          got any coupons for these?

That's pretty funny, you copied and pasted from a thread on WHT but failed to read a few posts down. Another lie you've been caught out in.

""Zone3000" is still Namecheap, and is based in Ukraine. (Realize that Ukraine is NOT an "outsourced" location like India, but is modern society/market. And much of the EU's infrastructure makes USA look like a third-world country.) As with many other businesses, it maintains separate names for various reason. So it's not outsourced, as in "something other company"."

"Did you even bother to view the content of the VK (Facebook for Russia et al) page? It has Namecheap logos all over it. And from I can translate, it's not a bad wage for the country."

          Source

          And from NameCheap themselves.

"Namecheap runs and operates its own offices around the world including the US, UK, Canada, Portugal, Ukraine and India."

"These are all our own offices with our own employees. There is no outsourcing and no off-shoring; we simply have a global presence. In some instances, for example Ukraine, we may employ a local company to assist with recruitment and some HR processes. This is fairly normal for global organizations."

"As it happens, I'm writing this from Namecheap's Ukraine office. I helped establish this office almost 8 years ago and can reassure you that now, and back then, that everyone here is a Namecheap employee (just as I am but out of the UK)."

Hosting looks reasonable for first year at $A$12.92 less 20% for up to 3 websites/subdomains, which is all I need. cpanel should make transferring out easy in 12 months because renewals are expensive. Has anyone had experience with doing so?

It is very rare to see Namecheap offer renewal discounts and good to know. It is a deal for those who have domains at Namecheap. AFAIK, none of the Godaddy renewal codes found on net work for renewals. They removed the practice of renewal coupon codes once they introduced Discount domain club (I think couple of years back). The only way to enjoy reasonable renewal prices with Godaddy renewals is to signup for their discount domain club and pay annually - worth only for those with large number of domains. It is also worth noting here that Godaddy's 99 cents coupon codes for new registrations are one time use per account.

Also, IMHO, I feel Namesilo is the best value registrar out there. Free WHOIS privacy, best rates, no hidden fees and simple interface (Both Namecheap and Godaddy suffer from non-user-friendly web interfaces)

All I know is I used Namecheap once and that email address I used got spammed within 24hours and it hasn't stopped since. I never had spam at that email address. I have a sneaky suspicion they sold / used my email to a 3rd party.

    • All I know is I used Namecheap once and that email address I used got spammed within 24hours and it hasn't stopped since. I never had spam at that email address. I have a sneaky suspicion they sold / used my email to a 3rd party.

Bollocks, why would they sell your email address? It's worth cents. Sheesh.

      • +1

I see you must have an affiliation with this company. Since I signed up with a new unique email address just for Namecheap (like I do for most company's where I shop so I can see who is spaming and I can quickly stop it) it was quite easy to spot who did it.

Can you please check the box to say you are affiliated. Thanks

        • I see you must have an affiliation with this company. Since I signed up with a new unique email address just for Namecheap

Of course I must be affiliated because I used my brain. Why on earth would NameCheap sell their customers details and risk losing all that business? Especially when they would get cents for the email.

Did it occur to you that maybe it's Whois spamming that is the issue like was pointed out earlier by someone else?

Here are some similar smart people.

"I registered a domain about a month ago using GoDaddy. Since then I've been flooded with spam from web developers soliciting me to buy their services."

"I am encountering the same thing… I believe GoDaddy is selling the information. How would someone within days think to search for contact information on what was previously a non-existent domain."

          And the answer is….

"When you register a domain at any registrar, your personal information including your email address is made public in WhoIS service that every registrar or domain registry keeps. This information is in public domain and anybody can access it. To avoid spammers you may use a fake email address but that is against the TOS and you may lose the domain. Simple way is create another email at any free mail service and use it only to register domains. Do not use your personal/business email id. Or, you can buy domain privacy/protection services which will mask your email address, name, residential address, telephone number, etc. in the WHOIS database, and so public will not be able to spam you and you will still remain the legal registrant and owner of the domain name."

As to goober, who has the time to move domains, update custom DNS settings, for the sake of a few bucks - not worth the stress or the effort, particularly if you use the domain for something serious like a business.
You want reliability and support and name cheap provides that.
