Not as good as previous deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/314725 for $1599 but still a worthy mention.

I've been looking for a decent brand name i7-7700 w/ 256GB SSD and 16GB RAM and this ticks a lot of the boxes. MSI, ASUS etc. are $2k+. The HP comes pretty close, but I don't like HP personally.

I bought one today from JB, and they price matched my Dell receipt from a week ago when I bought one for $1599. They're currently matching Dell's online price, although stock is VERY VERY limited, so best to buy direct from Dell.

That seems expensive for the specs consideri ng the acer had a 1070 for 1700

    • That Acer was a dream buy. To put it also into perspective there was a GTX 1070 refurbished tower with similar specs for around $1076 all you needed was a table and a monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers.

    • But that's an Acer though. And it's a 4.5kg one as well, double the chance for something to blow up.

      • And this deal will blow up your eyes and wallet

        • Agree with you on that. There was another deal for this exact laptop at around $1300-ish.

  • @Konazz can you send an image of the JB receipt?

  • Cheaper on Dell eBay, $1,614.20 with C5OZ coupon code.

    • That Ebay deal is for the TN screen - would gladly pay the extra $84.80 for IPS screen.

      15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-Glare LED-Backlit

      • quikrex said otherwise. 😁

        • Risky, but bravo for getting the IPS panel - good thing with Dell is you can call & cancel any order, no questions asked. :)

JB has the old TN screen so dont even bother, Dell is now shipping all with the IPS and hands down better screen!

    • OP got rekt

    • Yep - i bought one of these the other day from Dell -
When i was looking the other day at the Inspiron gaming laptops available on the Dell site, only one (the most expensive one) said : "15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display" The other laptops didn't say IPS. (They all seem to say IPS now… shrug)

I saw the cheaper models on ebay - but i couldn't confirm if the ones listed on ebay were TN or IPS - so i ended up buying off the website.

So, the website says IPS, and my order receipt says IPS and I'll be confirming when i get the laptop. :)

I bought off ebay on the sat 8th and it didnt say ips but messaged them and they confirmed it was IPS. I got my confirmation order email and says IPS. I used ebay for the 5%off :)

On the phone cancelling order now LOL!

  • This is a better deal.
    https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Helios-GeForce-G3-571-7…

Comes to $1584.54 AUD total including shipping (1393.59 + 46.90 + 144.50 Import Fee Duties)

    Recommended by Linus Tech Tips.

7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ Processor (Up to 3.8GHz)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB of dedicated GDDR5 VRAM
    15.6" Full HD (1920 x 1080) widescreen IPS display
    16GB DDR4 Memory & 256GB SSD
Up to 7-hours of battery life

    Pros:
    - GTX 1060 over GTX 1050

    Cons:
    - no 1tb HDD as far as I can tell

So about $120 cheaper all up for better gpu but lesser HDD space. Both have 256gb ssd's.

If you add a 2tb HDD like the firecuda in the Amazon recommendations it becomes about roughly $50 more.

Edit: but yeah nothing beats that GTX 1070 deal that was a ripper.

Edit2: this deal is also pretty good $1424 AUD delivered https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/318368 GTX 1060 laptop with some minor hardware bumps (less ram, 128gb ssd, i7 6700HQ) same guys that did the ripper $1699 GTX 1070 laptop deal.

    Edit3: GTX 1050ti laptop $1077 laptop

Just some ballpark numbers for those thinking about it and deciding.. deals from past few months only.

    • You'd also need a US->AU plug I would assume.

    • Nice deal man, I noticed that every time there is a sale on laptops. It is still cheaper to buy stock from Overseas as opposed to buying locally (including postage).

Idk how much they charge on tax over $1000 aud.

      • Yeah Import Fees Duties is a real bummer but somehow it still always works out to be cheaper. According to my test Amazon cart checkout Import tax is 10% of the absolute total cost (so product cost + shipping cost * 1.10) = Our Australian Cost Suffering. Damn muricans… getting all the good stuff much cheaper.. well at least we got our social welfare and Medicare and gun laws ha ah lol

        • Even add that 10%, I think it is cheaper to source from overseas stock….

    • Part of the reason I bought from Dell directly is peace of mind when it comes to Warranty - local seller & buying directly from a well known manufacturer…

Has anyone had any experience trying to warranty a laptop from AmazonUS?

  • Be warned, the screen on this Inspiron 7000 series are Horrible, saw it at JBHifi, and it's really bad.

    • Old stock.. all ones off Dell site as of July are now IPS

  • $1700 for a 1050 is completely terrible. The Lenovo E570p deal(s) included a 1050ti for $994 or $1100. At this price you're closer to the budget 1070 laptops already.

    • What about the XPS 15 which is $3100 for the same specs XD

      • Even worse. It's ridiculously overrated. If thin and light is your thing, get the new Gigabyte Aero models. If you don't need a powerful GPU, the Asus ZenBook series are great value. Watch for eBay sales, of course.

    • Not sure where you're getting those prices for the E570p - on the Lenovo website it gives me a quote for $1858.00 for a lesser spec laptop (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 2GB DDR5 for the Lenovo, instead of 4GB for the Dell), although the Lenovo includes Win Pro, the Dell has Win Home.

      • $994 with 1050ti
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/316233

All the other deals, it went down to ~$1100 quite often last month.

          Dude, you're comparing apples to oranges. The Dell listed is for an i7 7700, 256GB SSD with 1TB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB DDR5,IPS screen, 1 x 16GB RAM module (upgradable to 2 x 16 = 32GB).

The ones you listed are either i5, or inferior i7, smaller SSD, less RAM, no 2nd HDD & there's no option for a 4GB VIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti at all from Lenovo only 2GB.

As stated, the nearest config from Lenovo is $1858.00 with just the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 2GB DDR5 video card. The only department the Lenovo trumps the Dell is the SSD, SATA for the Dell, PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.0 for the Lenovo & Win Pro for Lenovo Win Home for the Dell. The Dell easily has the best battery life out of any of the gaming rigs out there & the venting fans at the back are up there with the Acer & even pricier Alienware systems, check out the online reviews.

$1600ish is probably about the sweet spot for a config listed in OP deal posted (less if there was an ebay sitewide sale).

This deal was only $1360, but can't see the specs.

If you were comparing apples to apples, then you'd be looking at the Lenovo Legion Y520 gaming systems.

@mrfarenheit: LOL. Seems someone really doesn't know their tech and laptops.

The 2GB 1050ti is a typo, it has been confirmed but for whatever reason still not fixed. No 2GB 1050 ti exists. Period.

          As for the other things,

The CPU really doesn't matter. At all. Both have 4 physical cores, in a laptop, they will perform ~95% the SAME.

If you think that 128GB bigger SSD and 1TB HDD is worth $500 (take a generous $100 off for the CPU "upgrade")… well go ahead.

@xrailgun: I have a Lenovo E570P right in front of me and dxdiag detects it as 1050TI with 2GB GPU

        • @xrailgun: See Here for previous discussion on the 1050 TI 2GB GPU - as confirmed my CodeXD. So Yes, for a 4GB GPU, Double the SSD, an extra hard 1TB HDD, Double the memory in a 1 x 16GB RAM config & a i7 7770 v i5 - to each their own I guess. I'm done.

Not at this spec level. I don't think $1600 is anywhere near the 1070 laptops, locally with AU warranty. Maybe ACER, but I'm still scarred from the 2 ACER's i've owned. I've had no issues with Dell on warranty.

  • Gaming laptops overheat very easily. Learnt that the hard way. Still get BSOD pretty often while gaming.

    • guess it depends. I have a MSI GT72 Dominator, didn't overheat for me. touch wood, still going strong for 2 years. :)

      • Shucks. Maybe it's just my metabox. Used to have major bios issues.
