N.B> I spent an hour on chat with a rep to confirm if the screen is IPS or TN (Apparently Dell is bringing out this with an IPS screen. Anyway initially she said it was definately IPS then after a little probing she back tracked and was not sure, and basically couldn't give me an answer, so I believe this will be a TN screen. I checked on whirlpool and many owners with a TN screen are replacing theirs with IPS themselves cost is about $au70 off ebay. I will do the same if mine is crap. Anyway looks like a pretty good buy cheers

If you want the IPS (but Core i5) model, here it is posted for $1,274.15 (student price), no need to go replacing the display yourself (not hard to do but buying the panels itself takes time)

Yes i saw that one, but now i'm skeptical that it really is IPS. Did you buy this? It no longer has IPS in the specs on the website I believe it did when post was made. Also this is the i7 chip etc..

That's i5 not i7 in case people don't notice it

      • thanks, clarified.

They've done a shifty and took out the IPS screen description.

Yeah, I am so angry when I checked order confirmation email saying not an IPS panel whereas the order acknowledgment saying an IPS panel.
I contacted Dell and was told I will receive a TN panel. And it will be 15 business days for cancellation and refund.

Regarding the screen, I did a replacement to mine. I was worried about buying a no-name panel, so ponied up extra to get one with known specs. I'd be interested to know how you go with a generic panel

It's cheaper to buy off dell ebay using 20% off code.

    • It's cheaper off eBay but
      1. I can't find the 256g ssd version.
      2. The terms and conditions for cash back rewards warn that applying a discount code voids the rewards, but it would appear others have been successful this way. So maybe that condition doesn't apply at the Dell eBay store.

  • I bought it during this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/309816 which was cheaper - although check if ebay gives it for cheaper

    • damn double the SSD for $10 wish i saw that deal

  • I actually just bought this yesterday, they are advertising it for $1,899.00 on EBAY but you can use the 20% discount code which brings it down to $1519.20 instead plus bonus 2% cashrewards rebate on ebay and there's no extra delivery fee

    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB GDDR5 graphics memory
    15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display

I would not recommend getting this laptop off the dell site at $1599

assuming my cashback figures are correct, there's a 65 dollar difference between the two configurations… one with 256GB and another with 128GB SSD.

    • Yes.Ebay cash rewards make it more attractive.I can't find the model with 256 ssd on the ebay store though.

Its not on there. You have to buy from the dell store to get it and pay the extra $80. I think its worth it.

Such a shame about not being IPS, the TN panel isn't that good. Its not a problem if you mostly connect to monitor though.

Anyone that bought from the last deal which clearly said IPS but isn't, should feel ripped off.

They took out IPS description on the screen.

    • That's what I thought. I'd be interested to know if anyone in Oz has actually received a 7000 series with IPS screen. I don't think they're here yet.

IPS or TN… why cant they just spell out.
