  • Great work as always ninja. Thank you.

  • Fantastic effort but dammit, I did my HR Block taxes last week! Last year when they had the HR Block deal it was in October and I didn't think it would come back so early.

    Live and learn.

    • -6

Went to HR Block to see if I can get a $184 refund and pay it again across two Amex cards. They will call head office to see if they can do it. Fingers crossed.
I only just paid for my tax work last Thursday.
The things I do to save $50…

  • The offer lists New Balance as a brand, but no location on where to buy it :(

    • Onlone

      • +4

I was going to try offlone

      • The t&c says not valid online

        Excludes online, phone, wholesale/corporate transactions

    • Did you click through?
      http://www.newbalance.com.au/stores

      • -1

Yes that lists NB stores, I just wasn't sure if it was any NB store or it had to be listed specifically on the AMEX deal. As other stores only have a select few of their stores applicable.

        • +4

Those are list of stores the offer doesn't apply

    • Would this offer apply to New Balance factory outlets?

      • Are they in the list linked to above?

      • I made a purchase as the NB outlet store in Perth and haven't received a confirmation email yet. Normally get them before I.ve left the store.

        • Go to your Amex account, 'My Offers' and see if showing as 'Redeemed'

        • Shows redeemed but I redeemed on Fri at Coop.

        • I made an outlet purchase and did not get the credit. Amex are now saying outlets are excluded. But I don't recall the offer terms originally excluding outlets.

Has anyone taken a screen shot of the offer terms at the time the deal was posted?

        • @bargain_knight:

When you say outlet do you mean in store? Are they now saying online only?
I remember there being specific stores that you couldn't get the discount for, but it wasn't that many. What store did you try?

        • @treeman:
I mean Outlet store at the DFO.

Amex pointed me to this exclusion:

Excludes purchases made through a third party establishment or third party payment processor like PayPal, outlet locations or department stores such as David Jones or Myer, or third party delivery or take away services.

However, I subsequently argued that the exclusion was not clear, given it related to third party processors.

But for others, they will not apply credits relating to purchases at Outlet stores such as the DFO.

        • @bargain_knight:

Ah okay, I'm not sure. Can you take it back and then buy it at the regular store? Quite often I find the outlets have the same stock as the regular stores.

    • -2

I hear New Balance is the shoe of white supremacists. Maybe ask the KKK or Trump supporters where they buy them from. http://time.com/money/4573635/new-balance-shoes-white-suprem…

  • anything worth buying?

    • +9

For sydneysiders Opal recharges @ WHSmith? But kinda have to go to either unsw or the airport

      • +1

Make sure you use the airport opal hack if you plan on recharging at airport store

        • +3

          Lol

        • What is the Opal hack? Please enlighten me :)

        • +4

@Porco Rosso: Go with minimum balance instead of paying $12+ and throw the negative balance card. Use one more card which has minimum balance and gets down to your destination.

        • @neonixcoder: thanks!

        • @neonixcoder: Opal should have an upgrade for this already?

        • @neonixcoder:

No such loophole in Victoria. Unlike NSW they GOUGE you for every card. As a tourist you may as well take your chances ;-)

        • That's not true. They have stopped that a few months ago.
If you notice they have a opal machine inside the station just after the gates

        • But it was still OK in late May when I visited International Terminal.

        • @yellowcoconuts:
For returning to airport, wirh minimum credit?

        • @albanyson:
Cant speak for International Terminal but for Domestic Terminal it was not working in May for me. This is for tapping out at the station.
I used to just buy a $10 Opal card, not a single ticket, and tap off with a negative balance. Last time I did it I couldn't tap off.

If you are using another method, let me know so I can use it when I fly out next month.

        • @yellowcoconuts:
I'm hopefully flying on the 25/08, domestic terminal.

        • @yellowcoconuts: It worked for me when I tapped off at Domestic in early June; ended up minus $13 or minus $15 or something.

        • @kerfuffle:
          Still confirmed then?

        • +3

@albanyson: As of last month, yeah

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:
          Thanks

      • Can we top up Opal card at WHSmith ? Is it true ? Thanks

        • +3

Opal retailers list has WH Smith locations at the airport (4 stores), Blacktown Hospital, Liverpool Hospital and UNSW Kensington.

        • @Ufens: Sounds good. Just wondering can we do a top up of $75?

        • Thanks for your infor. Now I can top up my opal card next week before I am on holidays :-). Can do it twice right ?

        • +2

          @alanyang:

          Nope. Adult Opal cards can be topped up $10, $20, $40, $50, $60, $80, $100, $120.

Can anyone confirm these stores accept AMEX for Opal top-ups with/without a surcharge?

        • +4

          @castaway:

If you have two Amex cards, sure. But otherwise:

"Valid up to 2 times and once per participating brand."

        • +1

@Ufens: good point, which means once per card at WH Smith

        • +3

@Ufens: I believe there is a 20c surcharge for amex/visa/mastercard/diners payment at WH Smith in the airport, according to one of the forums i read online. I'll happily take the $24.80 gain per card.

        • +1

@itslitfam: just did it myself with an $80 recharge. $1.20 AMEX surcharge :(

        • +2

@ATreeFiddy: What WH Smith outlet was that? I'm gonna head to the Liverpool Hospital one in a few weeks to top-up mine and will report if there's any surcharges

        • +2

          @kerfuffle: International Airport arrivals (downstairs)

        • +4

@ATreeFiddy: Just did a top-up at WH Smith at Liverpool Hospital; no surcharges

        • +2

@kerfuffle: Thanks kerfuffle, true to your words of 19/7, you said will report it back and YOU DID !! Thank you for following up.

        • @Purple: Least I can do! If it wasn't for this thread, I wouldn't have even known it was a possibility!

        • +1

          Update as of 10/08
I've just done an opal top up at WHSmith liverpool, amex surcharge $1.20 for $80 top up :(

        • @teddybr: same at UNSW as well

        • @Ufens:

WH Smith International Arrivals A no longer accepts AMEX. Walk along to Arrival B or go upstairs to Departures.

        • @teddybr: That sucks. Did they ask you what card they used? The guy didn't ask me and I used my phone to pay so he couldn't tell which card I was using until I tapped it (my AMEX is my default card)

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

I tapped the Amex and the card wasn't recognised as valid payment! Very odd since the other two WH Smith in the same building still accept Amex.

        • @Ufens: verrrrry weird. Hit up AMEX customer support and ask them why selected outlets take AMEX.

Only company that comes to mind that does this is Adriano Zumbo; only the Star store accepts AMEX as the Star mandates that they have to.

      • sounds like a plan

        • +3

No surcharge in WHSmith UNSW. They even open on Saturdays.

        • @orangeblossom: awesome
          Thanks for the update

        • -1

@orangeblossom: Been to WHSmith at 3:30 PM on Saturday. Store was about to be closed.. but the staff person helped there by doing opal recharges on all my 6 cards

$1.2 surcharge for $80 opal recharge.

        • @spk: Did you go to the one in UNSW ? There was no surcharge when I did mine.

        • @orangeblossom: yeah Gate 8 UNSW
Probably they realised about the Amex offer :)

      • +1

got $400 opal at 30% off cos of you. thanks mate

    • +4

Your pets are gonna love their new NB kicks 👌

    • +1

I don't get why people neg this stuff? Toll Poppy? Being 'smart' is a crime?

  • +20

Thanks registered all of my 43 cards

    • -4

Put a sock on it 😂😂😂

      • +3

        He can't. He forgot them.

  • Damn nowhere to buy video games from.. But great deal none the less :-)

  • anyone know if australian geographic sells gift cards? I'd like to buy a telescope for my kids and this may be the perfect time to buy one..

    • Consider a set of binoculars and a tripod instead. Telescope is a lot of work to learn how to use and setup.
You can see the moons of Jupiter with binoculars.

  • Co-op Bookshop! Great timing since it's the start of the semester!

  • have registered 2 cards from same account (with differnt no's) assume this can be used twice on each card ?

    • +1

      Yes, I believe so.

  • Sorry for being a 'dummy' but are some of these 'Brands' that can be purchased at any store other than those excluded, and some of these are 'stores' where you can buy anything - E.G. 'Hardware and General' ?

  • +1

Ted's Cameras is not on the confirmation list, but still showing on the link. Did they get removed?

This is what I got when I saved the offer:

  • +6

    Another Sydney Centric AMEX deal.

  • What are my chances, let's say I go to Oxford and buy a $199 jacket and ask to pay it in 2 separate transactions with 2 amex cards will I be allowed to? Will they kick up?

    Thanks.

    • -3

You will be allowed to but you'll only get one cashback.

Valid up to 2 times and once per participating brand

      • +3

Disagree. Each card should get the cashback.

        • Misread, didn't see he had 2 cards

        • @iforgotmysocks:

Yes but do stores kick up? Do they mind doing it in two separate transactions?

        • +4

@treeman: that would be store specific.

What if you bought a $100 gift card with the first card. Walk out and come back and buy the jacket with the gift card and your second amex?

        • +1

          @bluedufflecoat:

          I like your thinking!

    • +2

i have done in the past and they were ok with it

      • Cheers! May have to give it a go!

  • Live in Tassie…not benefit from it at all

  • +1

So I'm not normally a big Sony product purchaser but it looks like you can potentially get up to 33% off on Sony products if you have enough Amex cards. I am not sure if the Sony store is already massively marked up but I would have thought things like their PlayStation would be at regular retail type prices and so this might be a good discount for some.

Also, I guess you could consider getting a large Sony gift card* (if you have enough cards) and use that for a future purchase during a sale.

Any thoughts on what might be a deal from the Sony store?

    • Yes, I know about the Terms and Conditions but as has been explained and personally experienced, Amex doesn't seem to distinguish between a $75 purchase of an item vs a Gift Card.
  • Are outlets excluded? I don't see it in T&Cs.

  • Great effort, the details are much better the one in Amex website.

  • Sony Centre Nunawading is on the excluded list, and it's the only store in VIC, you can't buy online either.
    USELESS!

  • not sure if it will work at a sony dfo outlet but cant see why not.

  • +8

Anyone else getting a page that says that the offer is full?? 40,000 cards registered in a day and a bit seems like a lot.
