Hawkeye Firefly 7S 2160P Wi-Fi FPV Action Camera $66.59 USD ($87.37 AUD) (Free Postage) @ GearBest

60

Hi all. Long time Ozbargainer, first time poster.

Was shopping around for a cheap action action camera to take on an upcoming holiday, and was originally going to settle on the Xiaomi Yi Camera, but ultimately couldn't go past this deal. It's a fairly standard Go-Pro like device, with it's main standout feature (for the price) being a viewfinder built in (plus a front info screen). Comes with plenty of mounting accessories, with a few more available on GB (such as a standalone double battery charger) for decent prices. Not capable of true 4K, but will do 1080p @ 60fps. It does also have Wifi so you can stream the camera feed to your phone, but the app is very poorly reviewed, so I probably wouldn't buy it if that's a feature you're particularly keen on.

Seems well reviewed overall, especially for the price point. There's a few reviews and heaps of sample footage up on Youtube (also on the GB product page). Note that a lot of reviews pinpoint the cameras OIS (or lack of) as a shortcoming, but this has apparently been improved through a firmware update.

Additionally, spare batteries are also nice and cheap, though for some reason GB won't ship them to Australia. Banggood will though (at a slightly higher price): https://www.banggood.com/Hawkeye-Firefly-7S-4K-Camera-Spare-…

Full tech spec is on the product page.

  • Jesus man - you joined OzB in 2010 and this is your first post. ;7)

    Nice work.

  • For a semi generic action cam, it seems like going full generic (like an ekan h7) for about $50 may be a better buy.

Edit: If you've tried both this and a generic, and this actually is better value, please neg.

  • Watch out this can take "upto 6 months shiping" as i was informed by a gearbest rep…
So keep that in mind before your next holiday.
Also why not look at some target action cameras? I saw a full hd action camera in target a while ago for ~$25. I couldn't post the bargain as i bought the only two in store…

This has been cheaper from gearbest within the past few weeks.
6 months shipping is not true, if they have stock you can pay for faster shipping and get it between 1 and 2 weeks. (FYI its a no cost option on this item).

This is a decent camera for the money. do your homework, read some reviews to see if it fits what your after.

Yep probably the only 2 that beat it in the Chinese category are the Thieye T5e, and the 8s which has only just been released (and perhaps the Apeman).

I've done a lot of research on Chinese action cameras and I still think the T5e is the best, probably only outshone by the Hero 5 and high end Sony cams.

Shopping seems pretty good if you can get the 'AU Express' option. Not sure what the criteria is for this, but it happens to be free with this camera. Ordered mine two days ago, and the tracking has already been passed over to Australia Post, meaning it's either already out of China, or very close to it.

  • I bought this to see if I'd like using an action cam. It's alright got but if I record a longish video, it refuses to turn on and the battery gets really hot.

Probably a defective unit but still.

  • I got the Thieye 4k action cam. Only use it for 1080p @ 60fps, its so close to being as good as my gopro its not funny and uses all the same attachments.
