For a grey market LG? ("Bootloops are free, with LG") You new to OzB? ;-)

      Also has free bootloop.

      • You don't know that though.

Awesome phone. Great replacement for my dead Note 4, with it's 5.7" screen, replaceable battery and MicroSD support.

I like how it has an IR blaster so you can use it as a universal remote.

Loving mine too, replacement for my dead Note 3. I bought it as a stop-gap until maybe the exxy Note 8 arrived and could snag a deal but screw Samsung now, this phone rocks! Does everything I could ask of it.

I'm going to buy the LG G6 or upcoming LG Q8 (smaller version of our V20) for my wife when I can. The V20 would be too large for her, to be honest it's bordering on too large for me, just feels larger than the Note 3 did despite same screen sizes. But it's a great phone, really happy with it.

      • Ha. I'm expecting to replace my wife's Galaxy S5 with either a G6 or the newly announced Q8 too!

        • My wife has S5 too :)

        • @Click_It:

          Same wife?

          @CVonC:

It would explain why she disappears a few days at a time. Scratches chin.

  • I would love to get one of these, but do they suffer from a similar boot-looping issue that impacted the G4s and V10s?

I've read that LG have stated that bootlooping with V20s can be caused by a sub-par USB cable, but I've also read that the V20 was added to the same class action suit taken against LG for the bootloop issue.

Do many ozbargainers own a V20 and can comment? This phone ticks all the boxes for me, but as a former G4 owner I'm weary of buying another lemon.

I've had a V20 for 3 months or so. The phone is great, a little large for my preference. I bought it for $580 and even then it was a fantastic price.

I had a Nexus 5X for a bit over 12 months beforehand and also never had an issue, gave it to my wife and it boot looped within a month. The looping on the 5X was apparently caused by heat cycling. She plays mobile games and I don't so I assume boot looping risk may depend on how you use the phone.

      • +3

3 months is nothing. Bootloop usually occurs out of the blue after 1 year.

Ok, so can you point me to some sources that have proof of this for the V20?

There is a 1 year gap and a totally different chipset / motherboard between the G4 / V10 and the V20, and although I've ready claims of the V20 suffering the 'same bootloop issue' as the G4 / V10 I haven't really found any compelling evidence thus far that it is the same situation.

Edit: I'm genuinely interested in finding out if there are confirmed, documented cases of the V20 suffering the same bootloop issue as the older G4 / V10 models. From my own research so far, I've found lots of people who make 'LG bootloop lol' type statements regarding any LG phone, but not a lot of actual evidence.

Apparently that's worth a downvote. Good thing I've got plenty of internet pints saved up already to weather the storm :-)

@mr626: from a small amount of searching this morning, there have been a small amount of bootloops (but no more than any other phone) and the phone hasn't been out long enough to truly tell.

        • @Cozza38:

Thanks, that seems to be about the start of things. It's been out since about October 2016 I think? So not quite the magic 12 month mark that many people experienced issues with the older LG phones.

I think I'm going to risk it!

          Edit: annnnd ordered.

        • @mr626:

I gave them benefit of doubt. If LG haven't isolated it completely they've surely made improvements. I think the problem required soldering instead of glueing (or vise versa) but what's used on the V20 I'm not sure. Heating and cooling ultimately caused these problems I believe, I notice my phone remains impressively cool on charge cycles, more so on QC3 which is supposed to help in that area. We'll see come summer time but again it's the Heat/Cool contrast not the heat alone.

I have peace of mind I can return mine if it does bootloop one day so I'm just enjoying it in the meantime. Use quality USB cables.

You're getting a lot of phone for $400 I reckon. Don't forget $4 cashback (CR).

    • From my understanding the bootloop was only impacting SD810 devices, but I could be wrong

    • I would really like to know (this is offish topic yes, if the New g6 suffers from this problem? ive done some research cant find difinitively a yes or a no. any ideas? or anyone have one?

  • How to make the decision? V20 vs G6…… ah

    • I had the same decision to make 1 when there was another eBay sale not long ago.

I bought the LG G6 and I regret it…..I haven't used V20 before, so I can't say V20 is better, but I don't really like the G6. The whole phone feels clunky to navigate around (e.g. switching app to app). The camera app is slow to start up and the low light performance is almost terrible and the imagine is way too soft. It shut itself down and refused to turn back on on the first date I got it. I have to go to recovery mode to wake it up.

Maybe just a bad luck, but I used to use LG G2, G PRO 2 and V10, they just work and never miss a beat….

      • Thank you. Now, I got the idea.

  • This may not be same model, I don't know the site…
    AUD$352, US$279.99 - unsure if same model???

  • I used V20 since Nov16. No problem at all..

    • You can be our pioneer then. I'm not particularly worried TBH.

  • Hmmm need a replacement for my lgg3. The g3 has been awesome for the near 3 years I've used it as daily driver. Pretty good for a sub-$450 phone purchase. The g3 will actually be passed on to the wife who's old Samsung S4 is crapping out.

This v20 seems to fit the bill noiceley. I feel that any phone not sporting this glorious QHD display would be a downgrade from my trusty G3.
