Don't forget to join ClubPlus if you haven't already - costs $5, but you get $10 credit straight away.

    • Awesome tip right there!

  • Good stands, thick steel and well made, very happy with mine.

  • That RRP is crazy! Don't think I've ever seen it at that price…

If you aren't in a rush, the ratchet style ones are better as easier to raise/lower.
These type you need to make sure the holes align before pushing in the U shape hook to lock it.

Aldi has those ratchet style ones once in a while for $20-25 I think?

Ratchet is faster and more convenient, but I prefer the security of the pins as feels more solid and less likely to slip. The double pin adds to the strength further.

      • Both 3 ton versions go on sale at $39 regularly and that is the reason I chose the double pin over the ratchet type.

  • Would these be suitable for my bench press setup? I have the bench, bar and weights already.

    • +17

Absolutely, I use these when I bench my sister's Nissan Micra; they're very stable.

      • Whoa! impressive

They seem to be cheaper on Ebay, or even the ratchet ones for this price. How do you compare the quality though without buying both!?

    • +3

You can use one on each side, have a dayum good root on the bonnet and see if one gives way first. Then return that set for refund

I'd rather spend a little more and buy something from an Australian retailer in case recalls are issued for the product. If it was something inconsequential like wash mitts I wouldn't care, but something that literally holds the balance of my life over my head is not worth saving a few dollars over.

      • +3

They are an Australian retailer, unless you mean Australian made stands? I haven't really looked hard, but without paying big dollars they are all made in China.

I have the old grey painted model stands, they are very heavy and very solid. I definitely trust them. But I'm also not stupid enough to only have them holding the car up, also keep the hydraulic jack under there, touching but not taking weight. And if I'm going to be under a while I also chuck a mag or one of my smaller 1200kg stands under.

          +1. Solid advice.

I do the same, however I'm now looking for one of those low profile creepers on wheels so that if shit is about to hit the fan you can quickly roll the hell out of there!

          @montorola:

Problem with one of those creepers, is that if a stand cracks, you will likely have no warning before it falls. Now if you have a mag or something underneath it will catch the car, BUT if you are on a creeper you are higher than just being on your back. Not knowing how solid of a chest you have, normally even if a mag catches it your chest will be compressed at least a little, not enough to kill you, but enough to hurt. But if you are on a creeper, you chest will be majorly compressed, it is now a matter of which gives first, your chest or the creeper breaking.

        • what is mag?

        • What I mean is that as an Australian retailer, they have obligations to consumers overseas sellers don't have

        • @pembajak_sejati:

Mags, your wheels. I don't know if the cheaper steelies are as strong as (good brand) mags, but couldn't hurt to use those too.

          @niggard:

Ah sorry, totally read through without comprehending that you replied to a post about buying cheap eBay stands. I definately wouldn't trust my life to cheap eBay stands. Probably no ADR compliance, no quality control.

        • Redundancy is always good in potentially life threatening situations, but is there any stats on how many people get crushed under their car when stands like these are in place properly? I do the same as you, but I just don't think anyone would ever use these if there was a chance they would fail and you'd need that back up of the wheel being there. I know there are probably a few people that get crushed not putting the jack on the right spot, not being on level ground and then getting under, ut if it's done properly the number must be very close to zero

        • @Jackson:

I can't imagine there is. Probably comes under household accidents or something. And the problem would be, how would you then divide the number up to people that bought products to people who bought $20 eBay stands to hold up their 3.7 tonne landcruiser.

If you buy the right rating stand, position them properly, and use them properly, the chances of dying would probably be lower than dying in a car crash on the way to work.

Myself, i have these 3000kg stands holding up my Commodore. So 3t stands holding at most maybe 1.1t of car. I know to position them under the main rails for the front, and under the sub-frame front bush on the back of the car. Also I make sure the pins are fully pushed in before using.

For that RRP you could buy the better quality Kincrome Ratchet stands

I'm buy Ratchet over pin type, it makes them much easier to work with

    • -1

This is OzBargain, nobody buys at SCA's 'RRP'.
At $40 they compare favorably to Kincrome or other brand name stands.

  • I got two sets of these last sale. There good if not repositioning them. I prefer the ratchet type if I'm moving them often. These are great if you set and forget.

  • And any reason I shouldn't pay just 23.80 delivered?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/152226026392

    • Depends on how much you value your life lol.

I didn't see any conformance to AS standards when reading the description…

      • Meets mandatory vehicle support stands standard AS/NZS 2538:2004

Considering the SCA ad states mandatory, they shouldnt be on sale if not

  • Bought them for $20 delivered a few years ago. Can't complain work well

  • anyone know of any good quality, flat top with rubber or similar type jack stands?

i find these guys with curved bottoms don't really sit on the jacking points very well of some of the newer cars, totally destroys the plastic jack points that require adapters normally.

(also looking for a good quality low profile jack that is good bang for buck)
