        • Hahaha thanks

  • +2

Tempted - any realistic competition at this price?

  • I just wasted money on the 3-year warranty.

    • Yea idonotknowwhy you just did that!

  • Are there any 14" laptops with i5-7HQ CPUs? Or do you absolutely have to go up to 15.6" for more horsepower?

    • I have 14" Dell Inspiron from the outlet with an i7-HQ. They're out there, just have to pay a premium to get something better than the U series.

      • Oh yeah? How much was it and what CPU intensive stuff do you use it for if you don't mind my asking?

        • I bought it for programming and statistical processing. It's a last gen (6 series) CPU but is more than powerful enough. Plays CPU intensive games like Civilization fine also.

To be honest I think most people overestimate how much CPU-juice they need, the 7xxxU processors are plenty fast enough for 99% of tasks.

        • @railspider:

I really just wanted to edit video to 1080p using Premiere or similar. Reckon those can handle that? This E470 is on sale just about every other week.

        • @crankycarrot: Don't think you'll have any issues - maybe rendering will take a little longer, but personally I could live with that with how cheap this laptop is

        • @railspider:

Cool. Cheers. I wonder why this one specific model is so frequently on sale.

  • Came up to $870 after double checking the specs listed on the post and what was actually offered in the checkout. 16GB DDR4-2133MHz SODIMM was an extra $45.

    • +1

You're doing something wrong. Definitely $825.

      • Sent you a PM, if that's allowed.

      • Nice deal. You really are a tight arse *tips hat

    • This is what happens if you select 1 x 16 GB RAM. This deal is for 2 x 8 GB RAM. So for the extra $45 you get a free RAM slot so you can upgrade. But I don't know if there's any performance difference between 2x8 and 1x16.

      • Oh, I see! You were bang on the nail. Is it worth getting the extra slot for an extra $45? Ready to pull the trigger at this price point but clueless about computer stuff.

Any real difference between the 1 x 16 and the 2 x 8 RAM? Would it be faster if it was utilising one, rather than two?

        • No idea about performance differences. You don't actually get an extra slot. You just get an empty slot. Might only be worth it if you were planning on upgrading to 32 GB RAM.

        • You won't notice the difference, but having one stick makes upgrading easier in the future. Probably not worth the extra $45.

        • no, ram is all about the capacity. that is it…

  • Great great specs from what I can see. Good deal.

I'd much prefer a Surface Pro 2017 but the touchscreen + portability is not worth 1.2k.

  • Great Deal - Its actually $713 after cashrewards :-)

    • +2

      $767.25 I think.

      • I don't think lenovo pay cash back when a code is used.

        • The code is listed on cashrewards as eligible for cashback, so they should.

        • +3

          @lukethefish: 100% correct :)

        • +2

          @tightarse:

Nice…. I didn't know the coupon was listed on CR. This deal moves from super cheap to offensively cheap then.

        • +1

@ash2000: You'll find whenever I post a TA coupon'd deal for Lenovo, I put it up on CR at the same time. It's also listed in tonight's newsletter that just went out :)

        • @tightarse:

          Ok. Cheers!

      • Yeah that's What I got

      • You sure my friend? I thought it was on the actual RRP which is $1599.. I got that way thru eBay couple of times.. $767 is also a great deal though.

        • +1

Nah, I ordered with 4-year warranty taking it up to $1022 and cashback tracked at around ~$65 if I remember correctly. Which is approx the 7% they quote if you allow for GST.

  • Has anyone had any flickering of the screen with theirs?

    • Update the necessary drivers and this should fix the flickering issue

      • I tried updating the Intel and Nvidia drivers still flickering.

        • Try to install all updates including all additional updates even though it's not relevant, I had same issue but I installed all updates including bios, nvidia, intel, etc.
If no luck, then better contact lenovo support and ask for replacement

        • @laruku:

Is there a all in one update checker or did you download them individually from the Lenovo driver website?

        • @exc3113nce:
I updated the necessary drivers from Lenovo Companion, and ofher stuff from their driver website by selecting the right OS and model.
I installed everything even though if it doesn't look that important such as for wifi, Bluetooth, etc.

I bought one last year in June with 8gb RAM, excellent laptop. But my kids spilled water on it last week and it wont work again.

    • +1

This is a very fortuitous post then.

  • That's a lot of grunt for very little coin.

  • +1

Don't bother with Lenovo warranties, they are worth less than toilet paper. They just string you along until you give up.

  • Say what you want about them - Macs certainly hold their value. I just sold a 5 year old Mac on ebay for $440 thats about a third of what I paid for it. People are crazy. I'm using a $630 Dell Inspiron I bought from a deal here a year ago.

Loved the build quality of the Mac it was still running well, just hated the OS with a passion.

    • +2

I sold my 2015 MacBook a year after buying

Bought for $1500 sold a year later on eBay for $1600!

      Go figure!

  • Can this laptop run hackintash or Linux? Can not trust windows but the spec looks great for the $. - a mac user

    • +1

This laptop runs Linux Mint very well :)
I set it up for a friend, works perfectly out of the box.
First thing I'll do when mine arrives (from this deal) is replace windows 10 with it.

  • If I don't have MS Office account, should I buy the bundle license for the laptop?

    • Just had a look on eBay appears to be cheaper options so I held off

  • Ugh spewing! I just bought the Miix 510 from the other deal… ugh.. would've gotten this over that one for sure!

    • Ha ha me too!
Slightly different style of machine though so I'll just live with it.

      • Haha yeah it is but this deal is so good!!! Not that is really tell much of a difference using it for MS Word haha

  • +1

can i get same deal for 15" one please?

    • Please please please a 15" and a bigger 512 HDD option would be perfect for me

      • I bet 512gb ssd won't happen for at least a year. Much wiser to get a 1gb hdd and low ram, then replace the hdd and add ram. Very easy and cheaper.

        • +2

i'd prefer it comes with no drive so I can put my own drive in for cheaper

  • I haven't had the cashrewards tracking email from this one.
I have the Mozilla cash-rewards add-on installed and checked that it was green several times.
Anyone had their cashrewards tracking email yet?

    • +2

Can take up to 7 days, as per the terms on site.

  • Good stuff, bought one for the oldies.

  • +1

Anyone able to comment on the real value of a touch screen? Do they ever use it, or are they overrated?

    • +1

      I went from Lenovo E420 -> Dell XPS 12.
Couldn't stand the touchscreen, sold the Dell after 6 months.
      1. Glossy glass display was useless while commuting and attracted fingerprints.
      2. Fat fingers (too many ozbargain deals on piza) missed little buttons in Word, etc.
      3. I missed the nipple from the Lenovo.

Yeah, for productive work, I think they're overrated.
      Great for consumption (phones/tablets) though.

  • Any deals on X1 Carbon? :)

  • Is there a difference between DDR4 2133MHz RAM and 2400 MHz RAM? Or they identical RAM?

    • Different clock speeds (higher the number the faster), real world difference would be imperceptible.

  • Any deals on a laptop with docking station ? I need a laptop that I can connect to 2 external monitors ? Trying to avoid generic/universal docking stations. A decent quality generic docking station itself cost around $150-200.

  • What's your thoughts on the warranty - worth it, or don't bother?

  • +1

$50.50 cash back from cash rewards!

    Thanks is again to tightarse!

  • HELP HELP HELP
Cant see this particular model in cashrewards???

  • +1

Hey guys just remember that the hard disc on this cannot be upgraded.. you'll be stuck with 250 Gb only.
I had ordered this earlier and then ended up cancelling the order to order an E570.

That was also from ta deal for $100 more get better specifications and dual hard drive

    • +1

There is a drive bay in there, remove the back cover to get to it. Though yes, there is only 1 drive bay and there's no secondary M.2 slot.

      • Yes that's what I meant only 1 bay

    • Why can't the 250gb be upgraded? You mean Lenovo don't offer it, but you can do it yourself after you buy it?

      • Well in that case your be better off waiting for an e570 it comes with 2 bays and can be upgraded right from the factory.

        Which is what I did..

        250 gb Ssd +1 tbhdd

        • 250gb can be upgraded to whatever you want in this laptop but yes getting higher cap from factory is ideal

  • Thoughts on this one vs the Xiaomi Air 13?

    • +1

This one wins, because it has a nipple

  • Got one, thanks, TA.

  • anyone know screen color system in this laptop? tend to use photoshps for editing pictures, not sure compared to apple, which one is better, i know in terms of color, pictures looks stunning in apple computers…

  • +1

Finally caved and got one, even though my T420 still kicking strong !

  • This or Dell Inspiron 13 7000 series?

  • This is a great laptop overall and the $770 (CR) price tag tops the previous low of $710 (CR) 8GB version (which I have), given it would be difficult to find 8GB RAM for only $60. Which reminds me that now I need a good deal on a 256GB SD card and 8GB RAM.

    • Different variant RAM sticks. 2133MHz vs 2400 MHz

      • +1

Interesting. So I have the 8GB version that is supposed to have the 2400MHz module but 3D Mark reports the speed is only 2133MHz (I have not played with any timing settings).

        Manufacturer Samsung
        Speed 2133 MHz
        Size 8.000 GB
        Part number M471A1K43CB1-CRC

    Link does not work anymore

    • +1

      Yeah, I'm getting this message:

      Our apologies…
The page you requested cannot be displayed

      • Me too. Deal is meant to expire on Sunday, unless it's sold out withdrawn. So… I guess they ran out already?

      • yes same error.

  • +2

Anything similar coming up again? Was just about to pull the trigger

  • +1

I really needed a laptop for this semester of uni but its sold out :(

  • +1

Can we get an encore, TA?

  • +1
