Great promo, al though I just scrolled through upcoming releases and there's not any great releases coming out in that time period. Everything good (Justice League, Star Wars, Thor, etc) comes out just after that :(

Only thing I can see other people liking is Kingsman and IT

    • +15

"Everything good (Justice League, Star Wars, Thor, etc)"

lol. different strokes for different folks :)

      • Lol tell me abt it.

If 20TH CENTURY WOMEN is showing in your state go see it.

      • +4

my definition of good is that a studio dropped $200m in production budget and probably the same in marketing, so i probably should pay $10 to go see it instead of waiting for the bluray rip if i ever want them to do this kind of thing again

    • +2

Yeah it's a little quiet on that front, but don't forget Valerian, Dark Tower, American Made (Tom Cruise) also out before 30 Sept ;)

Oh - and The Emoji Movie too - haha - maybe for some people that's the clincher!

      • -6

-1 due to mention of Tom Cruise

      • +3

        +1 to undo malouphix's -1

        • wow, much love for Tom Crusie here. Apologies fans.

        • +1

          @malouphix: I forgive you

        • +17

@idonotknowwhy: Thanks. Just dislike money going to Scientology and the wack jobs who run it.

        • +5

          @malouphix:

I love watching documentaries on Scientology and laughing at the idiots who take it seriously

        • @malouphix: I understand. I don't care for Scientology. But Cruise makes some great and entertaining movies. I've enjoyed almost everything he's ever starred in.

      • Valerian seems to show promise, but I just see disappointment…

    • +1

Totally understand many different taste for movies. Guess I wanted to stress that people plan which movies they want to see with the tickets rather than dive forward and not be keen on the movies available. Cha-cha-cha!

    • +1

Actually some pretty decent movies during this period… for me anyway

  • nice prices, too bad I can't use my event gift voucher..

  • +8

I want one of those "$15 Gold Class Sundae" (read T&C)

That must be a serious sundae. I am not sure I think that they are worth it, no matter if they bring it to my seat or not.

    • +1

The food in GC is diabolical….probably the worst I've eaten in these 'premium' arenas. Bloody pricey too.

      • +4

Just depends which branch you go to and which staff is making your food, some of them make amazing food/sundaes. I've been to almost all across NSW - the only place I feel is dodgiest is Castle Hill.

I've had the best sundae ever from here and also the best frappe ever. Other times its good/great. Portion size is luck of the draw.

I've found the food is always good. The fries are always well cooked/well salted, sundae almost never disappoints even though sometimes its small, squid is tasty, wings are tasty, sliders are tasty. Having a reclining seat and never having to deal with douchebags is awesome.

Honestly for $55 + any extras (sundae and 2 tickets, then any extra food you want) its a no brainer guaranteed nice date, easy, tasty and movies are always fun.

People complaining about the price are fine to spend $100+ on another date/dinner that might be less enjoyable.

        • +1

Now, you may have just hit the nail on the head. I went a couple of years ago to a Gold Class and from what I remember, the food was excellent. I mean it was memorably good.

Two weeks ago I went to one just up the road and between us all, we almost ordered the whole menu. Nothing was any good. Utterly awful…….surely no one can make that crap taste nice? Or, do different venues have different food?

        • +2

          @gasman70:

Menu is same at every venue, just cooked and seasoned differently with different portion size. The sundae for example looks completely different every time we order it. The portion size has ranged from a few chips in a basket to overflowing family size chips with generous cheese.

The menu was changed last year, however. They used to have a signature platter with duck wraps/4 sliders/fries/wings/squid/sundae and that was on point. I like the new specials/signature experience less.

It's possible to make all of the food awesome or bad though depending on who makes your food and the management of the branch.

You might get large portion/hot food/well seasoned/well cooked/big sundae. Your chips might be crispy and nice and salted with a lot of cheese, or you might get a small cold oily mess with no salt.

It's actually very easy to make food taste crap or make it taste good. You can even experience this with fast food like Hungry Jacks or McDonalds. The food actually has quite a big variation even at the same branch.

So yes you might have just had a bad experience, the food is somewhat standardised but up to discretion of the branch/staff.

        • +1

@takutox: my view is if food is at that price, quality consistency is important

        • Agree about Castle hill crap foods, ordered a burger + chips, $13, it comes size slider burger with chips half empty. Told the staff this don't look like the picture advertised and asked to top the chips. The young girl went in and came back that is how they serve….. i refuse to pay, it took 15mins and i missed 10 mins of movie. Don't order from them !

    • +1

the sundae is a rich vanilla ive been hard pressed to find + nuts, malteasers, syrup and othr crumbly bits

it is really good. just overpriced

you can make it at home with crushed up malteasers, nuts and french vannila connoseuir ice cream. for around $8, so $15 for being served it cold during a movie (similar to eating $15 pasta at a restaurant vs $5 pasta at home) is not too crazy

mind you the serving they give you is hefty. enough for 2 easily.

      • some sundae places charge $4 a scoop. Personally, I agree with you, a bit overprice but everyone love sundae.

        • The bowl for the sundae is like a large soup bowl, it's huge, probably equivalent of 5-6 scoops of ice cream.

        • this is always the battle of value between supermarket prices and retail prices for most food. same applies to drinks, beer, lunch/dinner or desserts

That being said factoring convenience, labour, no need to washup, timing, wow factor for the ladies and that its easily 4-5 scoops of premium ice cream, id say $15 isnt crazy unless youre doing it everyday

    • Better than Mondae and Thursdaes, they are $20

    • $15 = 10 liters of connoisseur

      • Cheaper than homebrand ice cream? Tell me where!

  • +17

Mannnnnnnnn they really screwed over the people that qualified for $9 tickets in August. Dirty!

    • +6

yep, watched 4 movies to get 9$ ticket.which can be now had for even cheaper price.

    • +3

Ok Now got an email from Event cinemas saying

Congratulations! We love that you saw 4 movies between June and July and qualified to unlock $9 tickets for use during August.

But we are going one better, so that you don't miss out on the amazing savings from our Friends and Family Sale we've matched the value and unlocked $8* tickets. See any standard movie in August for just $8*. We'll send you another email tomorrow with further information on how to redeem your $8* ticket offer.

      • +2

Yeah I feel so pissed off when I saw that email. That means I get the same thing as the other people who didn't watch 4 movies in June and July right??

        • Vouchers aren't usable until Aug 10th, so there's over one week to get $8 tickets using the June/July promo.
Also means you only need to use the vouchers after Aug 31st. Might be useful to some that only want to pre-buy a smaller amount for the use in the month of Sep.

      • Lol yeah just saw this same email. I qualified using the western sydney super saver evouchers deal that was posted here plus the cinebuzz points free movie so don't feel quite as bad about it 😂

  • -5

$8 tickets valid all 7 days without restrictions ?

    • As per the title, and description ;-)

  • +4

As per T&Cs, "Not valid at Moonlight Cinema". Looking at their website they only list the Moonlight Cinema for Victoria. I'm thinking this is not valid for Victorians, unless it can be used for Village?

    • +1

thought the same thing , gold class is village but only 1 cinema for VIC …

    • Damn, there goes my Christmas presents! Thanks for the heads up :)

  • +14

Online booking fee is a rip off, especially as it reduces their staff labour

    • +10

Agree. No doubt they do it because they have to provide a fee free way to buy tickets and redeem vouchers, but allowing people to do it free online would kill desk sales, reducing their 'booking fee' to o very little, while charging the booking fee doesn't deter most people, as making a separate trip to the cinema to book is a PITA that most people will pay a dollar or two to avoid.

The same is true of Ticketmaster, who don't charge booking fees at agents, but rob you blind to print tickets at home.

In other words, they're doing they're simply squeezing the maximum out of revenue out of customers without falling foul of consumer protection laws by mispricing their services.

      • what is their justification to consumer protection for the fee? webhosting?

        • +1

There would be none. But they don't have to - they simply have to provide tickets for the advertised prices through some avenue. They just know that the more expensive avenue actually yields them higher profits (they still understaff box offices for busy times, pushing you onto the 'more convenient' e-channel).

      • +2

So I can go to the cinema and book a ticket before the movie to avoid the fee?

  • Can you pay for this using an Event gift card?

  • Looks like a minimum of 2 voucher has to be purchased.

  • +1

Hmmmm, could the favorights promo be better?
    ≈$10 ticket+chockies…

  • To confirm, the $8 is good even for Friday & weekend right?

  • Up until 30th Sept.. is that before term 3 school holidays or after?! im a parent and i have no idea… lol

    • school holidays (NSW) starts Saturday 23 September until 8th Oct.

      • oh thanks dear!! gonna buy some tix for the kids, hope a great kids movie will be showing at the time, not like boss baby, so crap lol

        • omg only the new lego ninjago movie is out, was hoping jumanji part 2 would be released lol my little pony is in october fml

  • Is this Village in Victoria?

  • Hmmm.. nice cheap date Mon - Thursday - The times where no one goes to the movies!

    • +1

for gold only, just buy standard

      • +1

That doesn't impress mate…. oh wait ill buy standard and some popcorn.. oh yeah!! HIGH ROLLER BABY!

        • +1

Yep. Nothing says "high roller" more than pulling out cheap vouchers for Gold Class tickets…. ;-)

    • almost like thats exactly the point of having a sale to begin with

    • +4

Lol this guy is actually promoting this deal, go Mon - Thu and you avoid people like him :D

    • +1

"The times where no one goes to the movies!"

Hate to break it to you, but this is when smart people go to the movies..
In part, to avoid the mindless drones who for some unknown reason, think the movies is 'a weekend thing'

      • Hmmm no thought… im a mindless drone.. bzzzz bzzzz

  • great bargain! coz this time, the standard ticket is without restrict. Before, the event limit the use for after 5pm Saturday!

  • I don't like Gold Class, coz the screen is sooooooo small… if people wanna bigger sofa or food…why not just watch the movie at home? more relax…lol

the most reason to cinema is the huge screen brings you great feelings…so…the Vmax should be the best choice or sometimes the standard class is also very big screen in some places such as MQ center, once you do online booking, just select the session with 3-400s seats, and the screen is as big as lots of other cinema's Vmax.

    • +1

less chance of encountering douchebags though

    • +2

you have access to premiere movies on launch day at home?

      • win some lose some. sacrifice to more relax

    • or even to to Imax!

  • The Black Prince is worth watching

  • Good timing

  • +4

Pro tip use the PROMO CODE: STUDENT2017 in your Cinebuzz student membership area on the app.
    Mon - Thurs $7 tickets*

*may need a student card to purchase tix at the counter.

    • in NSW??

    • Also they will likely ask to see your student card when you go to print them, unless they have a self printing kiosk.

    • Is this only on the App?

  • Are the screens at Gold Class bigger/similar/smaller to the Xtreme Screens at Hoyts?

In general, how does Gold Class compare? I've never been but considering it with this deal.

  • +2

After purchase, I realised that there is no event cinema in Victoria.
Please pm me if any one wants some free movie voucher.

    • Just sent you a pm. Thank you

    • PM Sent.

    • Did u not read the comment from mouseman above? Terms and cond say valid gold class at Village so will be ok

      • +1

I just bought normal vouchers, not gold class.

    • +1

      OK. All gone now.

  • Add another $6.50 for vmax no Saturdays after 6

  • Is event cinema in Victoria? I only get moonlight option when i select Victoria

  • shame you can't use a gift card

  • wow 200 likes?… some cinemas on the gold coast are this price all the time. my local is $20 gold lounge… the faq is wrong with the rest of australia

    • I live in Sydney & invariably everything will be more expensive here than the Gold Coast. That's the premium you pay for city life.

      It's a great deal.

  • Does anyone know what the surcharge per ticket is for a 3D movie at Event?

I'm pretty keen to see Terminator 2 3D when it comes out in late August.

    • Normally it's an extra $3, and they'll scam you into buying 3D glasses so bring your own if you kept them from last time

  • Maybe Dunkirk will still be on,

    • Probably will with the reviews it's getting

  • -3

Are these tickets able to be used in all theatres? VIllage, Hoyts, Palace, independents? If not, which ones?
