    Hrm, Xiaomi collaborated with themselves….

    • +12

I think it's supposed to say Phillips, but perhaps Xiaomi is like one of my former workplaces, where getting two divisions of the same organisation to collaborate was a major achievement.

    • +2

      Hrm, Xiaomi collaborated with themselves….

hmm, does xiaomi own Philips lighting division?

      • +4

I made a typo which originally said Xiaomi in collaboration with Xiaomi.

        • +2

          Oh, lol

  • This doesn't make sense. Philips have their own eco system (Hue) which is superior to pretty much every other type of smart lighting. This is not it, or even an imitation.

    • +1

Many companies often have trouble breaking into the Chinese market, so teaming up with one of the largest companies well known for their smart home gadgets makes sense. It's a joint venture and separate to Philips Hue. The Xiaomi Philips products are found in Xiaomi's stores.

          It's not Hue, it's Mi

        • +4

          LIFX > HUE > Xiaomi

        • @jackwoz: LIFX bulbs are too big and aren't as good as the Hue ecosystem. Hue has walls switches, candle bulbs, GU10s, motion sensors and they all just work.

        • @Steptoe: huehuehuehuehuehue?

        • @Burnertoasty: They may be slightly bigger. Gen 1 were huge but got a lot smaller with gen 2. Yes, there is a Hue eco system to go a long with the globes, but as far as globes go LIFX are better. If you want an eco system for the LIFX, im currently trying 'home assistant' on a raspberry pi, but there is defiantly a learning curve and not for the faint hearted.

      • Do these work with HomeKit?

        • Xiaomi homekit?

        • Apple HomeKit in iOS. Hey Siri support?

        • +2

@AustriaBargain: I don't think Xiaomi are Apple Homekit compatible, but I'll have to double check.

        • +1

          Only through homebridge

  • +11

Max 450lm not quite bright enough

    • The white Yeelights are 600lm from memory, though these globes look nicer.

      • +5

        Yee.

    • A standard room general light is 900 lumens as a guideline.

  • Can these be controlled by Google home?

    • Not sure about this, but yeelight can

      • Same question. Not sure if they are classified as yeelight as they are Phillips

        • They're not Yeelight as these are made directly by Xiaomi with Philips. Yeelight are a separate company with Xiaomi as a major investor.

        • @Clear:
Do know if Xiaomi has plans to support google home?

    • +1

no, only the Yeelight branded ones, setup off the SIngapore server can.

Yeelight is Xiaomi's attempt to go international/US.
This is Philip's attempt to go Chinese.

      • Google Home officially supports Yeelights as of a few days ago.

        • Yes, very exciting! they turn on quite quickly now with simple turn the light on phrase.

  • Nice price. Just be advised that the Philips bulbs wont work on the stand alone yeelinght app, only on the Mi Home app.

  • i am using the Yi lights and they work pretty well combine with xiaomis mi control suite and its smart hardware home control, this version is a collaboration with Philips which add the capacity to change warm to cool not just brightness. I am waiting for two of these to be taken back to Aus via a friend in china… but no time slot in sight hence i cant review them, base on the colour version of yi light and normal version, they work fine in the Australian 240v environment, given two of my ALDI brought German made LED blew within one year… i said the xiaomis are rather quality lol.

    • Can you provide a link to where you can buy it for $8.19 delivered?

      • +1

As if anyone that's ever quoted TaoBao has thought about shipping costs!

        • Starts from 65 CNY / $9.66 US.

    • not everyone will agree with your statement, considering every people have their own like on certain products, as this is a sharing of a large community group…. sharing is the power of bargain…

    • +1

So this is only US$1.70 extra and includes shipping…? Bargain!

Oh and OP isn't junking the website, but comments like yours…

    • +1

      wow kleenex ?

  • Will these work with Apple's HomeKit? As in using Siri to control the light?

    • Only with Homebridge.

  • Anyone knows where to get bayonet to edison screw adapter? My local bunnings and IKEA no longer have them.

  • Do these work with the 'Mi Home' app or a standalone app?

    • Mi Home.

I'm suprised that the Ozbargain 'Electrical compliance' Officer haven't spot this post and flag/comment about this bulb as not being "Suitable within the Australian standards" (as they normally would), yet.

    • +3

Good forbid people don't get electrocuted and die.

    • +9

How many Electrical Compliance Officers does it take to change a light bulb?

  • Could anyone please tell me if these can be set to turn off automatically at 2am every day? Thanks !

    • I've only had a brief look but could not find anything about setting it to a timer.

      • Thanks!

    • +1

I don't know how these differ to the yeelights, but you can definitely turn on and off the yeelights on a timer.

    • Yes you can turn on and off on a timer.

The article actually references a 1989 study on fluorescent globes by the same academic which said that fluros apparently gave people headaches. He now assumes that it they gave people headaches when they dim to 35% each cycle then LED's that dim to 0% each cycle must be worse. There is no new study, just a Daily Mail click bait article

      • +5

        Reportedly, Daily Mail causes cancer.

        • +8

I got an STD from the Daily Mail.

    • +12

New studies show Daily Mail not to be taken seriously.

    • But the thought of missing an Xiaomi bargain causes insomnia.

    • +5

      Actually it says

Professor Wilkins said: 'No similar study has yet been performed for LED lights. But because LED flickering is even more pronounced, with the light dimming by 100 per cent rather than the roughly 35 per cent of fluorescent lamps, there's a chance that LEDs could be even more likely to cause headaches.

So a psychologist, is looking for funding to do a new study.

    • +2

New studies show LED cause headaches.

      Any bargains for candles?

      • +3

Sorry no, new studies show candles cause hair to singe.

        • +2

Dammit, should I live in darkness or is that bad for eyesight?

        • @Stix: bad for the power companies and economy

  • Site doesn't work. I've tried a few times now. After trying to pay it says "The order couldn't be completed. Please redirect your customer to PayPal"

  • Are these ZigBee enabled?

    • -1

No, they aren't available from BingLee.

  • Well I've jumped in for $12.80. I want to compare with the LIFX bulb I've got which is bl00dy rubbish. It sits 4 meters from the router and looses connection every other day.

    • Really??.. I have 6 LIFX , around 10/15m away,, had no issues. No issues with connection, may be a router issue??
But agree LIFX are much more expensive..

      • I agree, i have about 6 also, and all are good apart from 1 is a little temperamental. Not sure why. The only difference is it is the gen 2 white only version compared to the gen 1 colors

wow 30-40 business days for airmail….that is a long long time, what does everyone think ? can pay $1.99 USD but still doesnt get much better 15-30 business days.

    • That is standard for free shipping from China. Aus direct is much quicker.

      • 30-40 business day is not standard

        • Up to 30-40 business days for unregistered Airmail from China? Yes. What do you consider to be standard?

    • +1

The fun part about this is the package arrives - you can't for the life of you remember what it might be - and then you open it and get a little surprise.

  • +1

You can also buy this from gear best for $12.65
    http://www.gearbest.com/smart-lighting/pp_644095.html

  • Shame the code only works on one item and not on the total purchase. If I want to buy two the total goes from $9.89US to $22.28US

  • +1

Still hasn't even shipped :/ wondering if I should cancel and go yeelights

  • Did anyone get these to work? I have it registered on the MiHome app, i see the bulb, but i can't do anything with it except delete it from the app. I can't tunt it off, or change colour.

    I'm using a Samsung S7

    • +1

Were you able to get it to work ? Just received mine and can't connect it

      • No, still same issue. Sometimes I can't even see it (depending on what server I log in to US vs US (Singapore?))

Are you able to see your light in the app? Or are you running into the same issue as me?

        • Same issue, I can see the light on the app but can's control it, if I press on it nothing happens. I am on a Samsun S8, probably an issue just with android

        • +1

@zakma: Check out a comment by Knightelf below. I'll try IOS and setting to China locale later .

  • I've registered on the app but can not even see the bulb

    • You have to choose China as the locale and all the devices will show up.

    • Figured out its in China locale but still cannot connect

      • I got mine working, where are you stuck?

        • +1

Now it's not even showing up in my wifi list

        • Are you using Android ? Managed to link mine but I can't seem to control it

        • Hey mate, what exact application are you using to turn on/off the bulbs? I posted above that I could register the bulb but not control it through the MiHome app. (used the QR code that came with the bulb to download the app, and also downloaded the app from appstore).

        • @test34forone:

I'm on iOS, so maybe you guys are on Android?

I am using the Mi Home app from app store, chose China as locale, added the philips bulb (make sure it's the right one), then it asks for my wifi password, then it says join the lightbulb's wifi network and it does its thing. When the bulb is added on my list of devices I can click into it and it goes to a screen with a bulb in the middle. Clicking on the bulb turns it on/off, sliding up/down adjusts brightness and sliding left/right adjusts the colour.

        • @Knightelf: Thanks for the response. Yep I'm on android. I'll ty with IOS and selecting China as locale. Everything is the same for me except when i select the bulb from the list nothing happens.

          Cheers,

        • @test34forone: Seems like a android bug, unfortunately I don't have an iOS device to play around whith

        • +2

@zakma: I've got it working on android using this app, although I can't speak for the safety or authenticity of it.

  • I'm using iOS and it's not working either

  • +1

Turns out I did something to mine and had to reset it to do this it says

    开灯状态下,5秒内快速关/开灯泡电源5次或以上,灯泡闪烁5次则重置成功。

In English this says turn the light off and on 5 or more times it will then flash 5 times which means it's reset

But then I get the same problem as this
