Telstra 4GX Plus ZTE Blade A462 - 5.0" Android 6 1GB Ram/8GB Storage BAND 28 - $79 at Woolworths starting Wednesday 9 August

170

Turns up regularly in the Coles catalogues, this time it's Woolies.

So you can buy a good Chinadroid for ~$120 Sometimes, but for the revered Band 28 and a 2 year warranty, this could be the one for you. We've populated our kids at school with this device, and they just work. Add a 16Gb or 32Gb MicroSD and download all those songs or videos.

This is a basic phone with a vanilla Android installation. Good battery life, pretty robust, and cheap.

You'll need to unlock to work on Aldi or Woolies, this [$3.47 one worked for me]

Edited to add: affable has pointed out it worked on Aldi out of the box, so try it first.

Full specs here

Why am I posting? Band 28, low cost, reliable, unlockable, and I've employed minions to use it.

Oh and if you want the HD version, it's in the Coles catalogue starting 9th for $89. However I can't vouch for it.

  • No monster headphones… not that they ever sent me mine anyway

    • I got mine. They're great for travelling.

This is 5" ZTE is a different model to the 4.5" Buzz that came with the Monster headphones.

      • I know its a different phone, just still really pissed off with Telstra for screwing me around for so long and never sending me what I paid for

        • +3

Ah, I see. You're complaining in a Coles deal about a Telstra online deal from nearly 2 years ago, about not receiving the limited offer bonus headphones. Now that makes sense ;-)

        • @Infidel: Its a woolworths deal, but yeah, I feel a shudder whenever I read Telstra 4GX. The only time I've ever been ripped off buying online, and it came from one of our biggest companies, not some dodgy backyard seller in a foreign land. I know its sad and pathetic

        • @choofa:
Oops Woolies. Coles had same deal - ended yesterday.

I got in early for the Buzz + headphones & got $10 Cashback making it a great deal at $53+. When the Monster headphones ran out, they supplied Sony Wireless Headset, then all gone.

But my Buzz phone was crap. Grrr Telstra!

I thought Coles were doing the Smart and HD version as per this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/322304
    No mention of the Plus?

    • +1

Just went back through the catalogues - will update deal - this is a Woolies one!

    • For the minimalist comment above, Officeworks are selling the same phone as this deal for the same price.

Comes with free home delivery if purchased from OW, but is ~$4 cheaper if purchased at Woolies with discounted gift cards.

Don't forget to use 5% off gift cards if buying at Woolies! (From CashRewards)

Got a better deal on a $79 phone that has 2+ gb RAM

        • +2

          pathetic comment

        • +2

That isn't my logic. I wasn't asking about turds, I was asking about phones. I need a cheap phone and $80 is about the right price I want to pay. So, if this is not a good phone because it only has 1gb of ram, then maybe you can suggest a better alternative for the same price.

If your dog turds have band 28 and 2gb of ram, I would happily consider what your alternative is.

          @pegaxs:

If your dog turds have band 28 and 2gb of ram

You'll have to wait for next year's 'S' model.

As for an alternative, I'd forgo band 28 to have a much better phone from Xiaomi. Redmi 4A.

        • @PainToad: Got a link to the Redmi 4a for $79? I can only find it at $140 on average. Almost double the $79 for this phone.

And I can't forgo band 28 as I live in a rural area and non band 28 phones out here just don't work very well…

So, in other words, your original comment was moot as you can not find a better phone for the same price.

  • I had this for 6mths and then gave to my daughter as RAM too small. She now finds the same. This is fine if you don't use more than 2-3 apps, otherwise forced Google bloatware fills it up.
It will work on Aldi without unlocking.

    • YMMV
Ours didn't work on Aldi out of the box. I've heard it works on Boost out of the box.

    Updated store to Woolworths.com.au

  • I got 2 for kids about 18 months ago.. Sold the Monster headphones for more than the cost of the phones.
I'm actually thinking to sell the phones now too..
They are great for tethering tablets and stuff..

    • +1

That'd be the Buzz not this Blade. Different product.

  • What's the deal with monster headphones?

    • +1

I think they are talking about this deal, posted November 2015 -
Telstra 4GX Buzz $63.20 (Was $79) @ Telstra Online. $10 Sim + Monster Headphone delivered

      • +1

Yes - but it's a different phone in this deal. Buzz was 4.5", this is 5". So people are a bit confused.

Bought the Buzz for $54 with monster headphones. Crap battery overheated & failed to take charge, all switches & connectors failed after less than a year of light use. Others complained about battery failure - Telstra would not replace under warranty.

Replaced with Moto G4 for $138 - so much better.

Wouldn't trust another cheap ZTE phone.

        • Lol wtf do you do with your phone? Mine is working fine still. Original battery lasting ages. I use it for GPS and tether (sometimes). Only issue is on rare occasions GPS loses lock.

        • @CVonC:
As I wrote - others complained about same issue. Discussed before.

Battery overheated most of time - shutting charging down - shown in Ampere app. Switch needed to be pressed many times to bring back from sleep. Micro-USB stopped working so wired in my own connector to keep running. Glad to be rid if it.

It was great for short time it worked - Telstra wouldn't fix it.

Usually sat on desk as mainly used for internet & tethering, few calls.

I got that when using GPS. Lucky I have vent holder to blow cold air on it. Didn't help during this winter though ^^ Besides that I don't have the switch nor microusb problem thankfully.

        • @WatchNerd:
          That's what I & others said to Telstra :-(

        • @CVonC:
No other complaints I could find online, but all switch & connectors failed or were faulty on mine.

Never had a problem with a number of cheap Huawei phones from OzBargain deals. Used in similar manner. All except 1 still operate after many years.

        • We used the 4GX Buzz for one of our kids. Seemed to do the job just fine - until it was lost after about 10 months. The 462 doesn't seem to have much better specs, but it certainly seems to work better. Buy from Woolies or Coles - any warranty issues will almost certainly be a swap over.

        • @willyroo:
Slightly larger screen should be a bonus as long as is clear. Comment in previous deal about poor viewing angles. Enjoying the 5" Moto G4.

Kept the Buzz going with some rewiring. Until I was hit by a wave on a beach in Japan in May. Had packed a backup Huawei Y550 as thought it may fail, but it unexpectedly lost its internal memory a few days later. No internet in a tiny Japanese village :-(

Bought from Telstra for better price with Cashback & free monster headphones. Faults showed up months after purchase.

  • Just a heads up - if you have around $120 spare, the Xiaomi Redmi 4A deal is still live. A big step up in performance, however no Band 28 and effectively no warranty.

  • Thanks OP bought one yesterday and unlocked with the link you provided.
