The current price is the lowest in history as per CCC. At today's exchange rate, it is even ~AUD 2.72 lower than AUD 350 delivered deal from Computer Alliance eBay last month. That deal was sold out quickly.

  • Are the Blacks still noisy?? I bought a 1TB in 2010 and it was extremely loud (compared to the previous WD Caviar SE 400GB that I had). I eventually had to sell it 2 years later. Are the new models any better? Incidentally, a 1TB WD Black is the same price today as it was 7 years ago in 2010!

    • Goes to show it's good value.

      • Nope. Just goes to show things are stagnant.

  • I've got a 1TB WD Black in a gaming PC that is 5 years old. It gets daily use and still has no issues. Really solid drives. I'm after a 4TB and found one thanks to this deal for $100 cheaper than buying it in AU. Thank you.

This seems expensive after that Toshiba X300 5TB $158 delivered deal from Amazon. I know this is a WD Black but gee what a price difference between those Toshiba X300 5TB and this WD Black 6TB. You could have bought 2 x Toshiba X300 5TB and still had a bit of money left over compared to this. The speed difference in write can't make up for to the huge pricing difference.

By the way that Toshiba X300 6TB has 173% faster 4K random read speed (Average User Bench) and 329% faster 4K peak random speed (Peak Lab Bench) compared to the WD Black 6TB, i guess the OP forgot to mention that. The Toshiba X300 has way faster random read speeds, it's only the write speeds which are slower.

This is a poor deal when it comes to 4K random read speeds compared to the Toshiba X300. The WD Black in that situation is slow as. But i know it's all synthetic benchmarks right.

      Speed isn't the only factor
The Tosh has 2 year warranty
The WD-B has 5 year warranty

      • By the time the 2 years is over, there's probably way better drives on the market any how let alone 5 years later. Plus if a hard drive was going to be faulty it would happen well within the first 2 years.

          What ever floats your boat.
The last thing I want to do when I get home is work on more computers.

        • @Radar:

Hard drives can fail on any brand even a few days after purchase. It doesn't mean that the WD Black is any better than the Toshiba X300.

        • @hollykryten:
          Yes, that's always a risk.
Yes the tosh's may give me the same 3-5 years of service - but the manufacturer doesn't seem to think so.
All I'm saying is, my time is more valuable to me than saving a few bucks on hard drives that "might" be suitable for my needs.

Why pay such high price for HDD nowadays???

SSD becomes cheaper and cheaper. Average Sata3 SSD can beat it pants down, not to mention good ones. PCIe ones just instantly kill it…

a good SSD for the system and programs, add some cheap, big and reliable HDDs for medias and etc. if you're a gamer, add more big SSDs.

    • Problem is even 1TB SSDs are around $300 - $400.

    • SSD to store OS and applications while HDD to store applications, data and games. Some gamers have many GBs of games installed on their PCs.

  • Thanks OP - but says it's reserved for Prime members only? What gives?

    • Amazon some time does that. Puts a deal on sale to every one, and then shortly after changes it to Prime only members. You have missed out unless you take up a Prime membership trial.
