Famicom Nintendo Classic Mini ~AUD$148.57 (with Standard Shipping) @ Play-Asia

510
CENSORED

Famicom Mini is the Japanese market. Probably more for collectors. Could not find it for less on ebay ~$230 for local stock. Has some games not on the US/EU original about 8 of them.

USD 109.99

Can be modded to English
https://www.reddit.com/r/nesclassicmods/comments/6dnd03/tuto…

The controllers are hard installed to the console but there is 2 of them and they are smaller.
RRP and could be hard modded to use the standard mini nes controller.

YMMV but hakchi2 could unlock it.
Decent as you can have a unique looking console but scalpers probably cannot be bothered with the mods. :)

    Good deal for collectors. If I am not mistaken there were a number of game options that were different than the english counterparts - though you would have to speak japanese still.

      NES Classic gets:
      * Bubble Bobble
      * Castlevania II
      * Donkey Kong Jr.
      * Kid Icarus
      * Punch-Out!!
      * StarTropics
      * Tecmo Bowl

      Famicom Classic gets:
      * Mario Open Golf
      * River City Ransom
      * Yie Ar Kung-Fu
      * Atlantis no Nazo
      * Solomon's Key
      * Downtown Nekketsu Koushin Kyoku
      * Tsuppari Oozumou (Bumping Sumo)

      Final Fantasy 3 instead of Final Fantasy 1

      • +2

        worth it solely for River City Ransom and Solomons key imho

        • +1

          mannnnn river city ransom! Would be hard work playing it in japanese though, all the items in the shops!!

      • Downtown Nekketsu Koushin Kyoku in 4 players mode was so awesome

      • River City Ransom was released on NES under the name 'Street Gangs' IIRC. Remember playing it when I was a kid. That, Mario 3 and Battletoads.

        • I had street gangs it was the best! They re-released it on gameboy advance under river city ransom advance. It's crazy there's heaps more techniques to learn and more gangs and weapons. Pretty fun

    WHOA!

  • Is this console in English?

    • Gees just asking :/

      • -4

        +1.

    • No, everything will be in Japaneses and you will not be able to change it to English
      Linked Mod (reddit link) does not work, mate got one of these and tried multiple mods and they do not work

    Can I plug in my old Famicom game cartridges? How about my disk drive?

    • No as the red flip is cosmetic and the famicom mini probably about the same width as the cartridges.

    • No and no.

    • +1

      Can I play my dreamcast games?

      What about my Amiga?

      • +2

        careful those questions will cause a guru meditation

      • +2

        Dreamcast, yes, but only games which support the VGA adapter (640x480 resolution).
        Amiga - not yet, but a HLE Amiga emulator for dreamcast is being developed, which will work on this console.

      Thanks

  • I saw it on their site for couple of months and they still have plenty of them

  • Eh. Can't see any reason to have the Jap version unless you want to collect everything.

    • +1

      Its an ok trade off if you missed out on the NES Classic.

    • Isn't that the only reason for buying a NES Classic Mini in the first place :P

  • Famicom Mini Vs NES Mini - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knial8mJIJU

    no microphone in the controls

    • I remember the mic on the red controller even with volume control but I still have no idea what the hell it was for.

      • Zelda is probably the most popular game that you use the mic for, along with Takeshi's Challenge

  • I saw this for sale when I was in Japan for about AU$80.

    • Out of stock everywhere though.

    I'm really disappointed…

    I had a super famicom when I a kid… I had the disk drive and so many games… i had cartridges from Vietnam and HK. 60 games in 1 and 150 games in 1… this was the original Nintendo.

    i played shinobi, super Mario brothers, tetris, ice climbers, donkey kong, we threw it out many years ago because it stopped working.

    • +4

      I had a super famicom
      this was the original Nintendo.

      Super Famicom wasn't the original Nintendo. Would be like me saying Xbox 360 was the original Xbox.

    • +1

      Shinobi? I thought that is Sega MS/MD's game?

      • I believe it was an arcade game first.

    • +2

      60 games in 1 and 150 games in 1… this was the original Nintendo

      Did you mean Chintendo?

    • I had a NES with an SSD. True story.

  • -6

    I have working Super Nintendo this one looks different too but is red and gold colour. I play all game was very fun. I think may be not fun now because am not 12 yo 😓😓😓😓😓😓 hmm

    • +7

      Yeah, but you'll be 12 eventually.

  • there are original famicoms for sale on ebay for less than this e.g. $70 if you're in to the old school collecting.

    • -4

      "original famicoms for sale on ebay" then you proceed to link to a dual led charging adapter on Ali Express

      you can buy Famicoms in Japan for around $10 in pristine condition

      • +1

        From where? Didn't see any for that price when I was there last year.

        • +2

          I was there in June and spent a good number of hours searching out Famicoms and old games systems and the cheapest for Famicoms was around 5000yen. next gen famicom ~4000yen, playstation 1 from 500 yen, xbox 360 from 500 yen

        • +1

          Yep, that seems about right!

        • -1

          Book off

        • -2

          @altomic:

          clearly you didn't look too well, even in super potato which is incredibly overpriced it's only 3000 yen for a famicom

        • @wingwang: it's Hard Off. Book Off sells books + software, but not game systems.

        • @wingwang:

          Yeah nah…

    • wrong link bro

  • +1

    I think your better off getting something like this http://www.gearbest.com/handheld-games/pp_658476.html

    Pretty sure it even takes original NES cartridges unlike this thing.

    • No hdmi

      • and? Its an 8 bit games console.

        • Many current, and lots of future TVs don't have AV ports.

          EDIT: So I looked harder, and the web says one of the component ports will usually accommodate composite video. I'll try this next time I take the kids to Grandma's as their TV has no A/V and we have a couple of A/V game devices I didn't think were compatible.

  • Worth keeping in mind the controller cables are about three inches long, so it's not great for all setups. At least the NES Classic cables could be unplugged and extension cables used. It'll work if you're ok having it sit on a coffee table or whatever close to you.

  • +1
  • Oh god you guys gonna ozbargin it again like usual lol.

    • It's been up for months, there's no bargain.

  • Where do you enter the discount code???

    • Ah, found it hidden in a tab ;)

  • the controllers are tiny, suitable for 3 years old kids… but good for collecting.

  • Still no Marble Madness! :C

  • I bought one of these a while back, good but it took at least 7 weeks to arrive…I'm not sure they posted it when they said they had

  • Ordered on the 8th. Arrived on 23rd. The true-to-ratio mini controller gave me handcramps after a session of Ninja Gaiden.
