Was 15gb the other day wasn't it?

    • You're right, my bad I didn't know of that offer. I'll ask mods to remove. Thanks

Edit: looks like mods have chosen to leave it published.

  • If on the old 10GB plan, anyway to upgrade?

    • Go on optus chat and tell them you want to move to this plan. They'll happily move you over, but might recontract you for the year

      • +3

They'll also charge you an exit fee which is bs.

        • No they don't. They didn't charge me the first time this plan was upped to 12gb from 10gb. Free renewal and movement to the new plan. I'd suggest OP goes on chat and sees how far he gets.

        • @segaxavier:

They wanted to charge me last month when the offer was 15GB. First time I was asked to pay a cancellation fee, even after a couple of chats.

I gave up and stuck with my 12gb.

        • +1

Can confirm this. Tried just now on live chat and they said I had to pay a fee because I was still under contract.

    • If I log into the customer portal its unavailable to upgrade to.
If I click upgrade on the page linked in this post I was able to select it.

  • Wonder why Oprus only offers the 300 international minutes to selected countries when other providers using their networks do not restrict the countries?

    • Who doesn't restrict the countries?

      • +1

        Jeenee mobile?

      • Amaysim but they have less countries to choose from.

      • Dodo

  • Great deal. Signed my wife up to this this morning as she was always going over her data limit…. so easy to get it done via chat.

  • +1

Should also still get a $10 bundling discount for having an older internet plan? Or will it remove that?

    • +2

Kept for me. Ref agent on chat: Rick S

    • I had to cut over my old cable broadband plan to a new NBN plan and asked about changing my mobile from the old 10gb BYO $40 p/mth over to the newer 15gb plan, was told I would lose my $10 bundling discount due to the mobile plan upgrade.

  • Are international texts included, or charged extra ?

    • Texts to standard national and international to the following selected countries.

Selected Countries Include: Austria, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, USA and Vietnam. this is a good deal for the amount of data, but be warned optus customer support is atrocious. i just signed up for the 15gb/month one last deal and it has been a nightmare to set up, they overcharged me, and still i cant access my account. i've been talking to customer support pretty much every day to sort it out and every time they are incompetent and rude. they do this thing where they say the line "i'll be right with you" over and over again, once said it literally every 2 min for an hour.

    • +1

Put in a complaint and they create a case for you and assign it to a customer service rep in Australia. That person sorts everything out properly!! If you ring few days after the case is created they will give you their direct number and email address too. I was very impressed

Tell me about it! Upgraded a plan from 10gb to the 15gb one, spent half an hour with an agent on chat to make it happen. Said they'd send a receipt which never came. Asked yesterday what plan I was on, and they asked for my receipt number. They have no record of my sale or half-hour chat, suggested it never happened! Well this next plan will never happen, Optus! Have not been able to access my account dashboard online this whole plan, gets stuck in an internal server error each time I try. How are these guys the second largest telco? Boggles my mind.

    • thats unfortunate. i got on the 15gb deal and it was a seamless transition to me! the transition couldnt have been better.
i went from spintel to optus (if that matters)

If only their network not so shit.. Would have signed in an instance

We moved from telstra to optus for similar deal a few months ago and surprised by its security protocol. My number was ported to someone who claimed to be me as easy as through live chat and provide name and dob. Thats it. He then proceed with credit card application and multiple attempt to extract banking information and other online access which relies on your phone number these days. Complained straight through oz customer service (imagine the troubles) and optus denied any responsibility for the unauthorized sim swap. "It's NOT Optus' fault", as she repeteadly said. Ok then, break the contract with no penalty and moved to Voda now. Just be careful, guys. This is what you are about to sign up for. 99% it wont happen to you lucky people, of course, but when it does, finger crossed you dont have much money in the bank. I am not saying its safer with other provider too but I'm running out of options myself. Its just the way optus handled the whole things was very poor. Just like dealing with telco in one of the asian countries i used to live in. Wait the minute……… :P

  • I told my brother about this deal last time and mentioned if he was a student he could get it for around $36 - he went in and asked and actually got it cheaper at around $32. Will confirm details later. Must of been around 1 month ago.

    • Confirmed - 12 gig per month costing him only $30

      • What did he say to get it cheaper?

        • Not sure, the guy just offered it to him i think

      • +1

Was it the 25% off deal for the EOFY?

  • how much discount do you get if you have 2 Optus numbers?

    • Should be 25% off the second plan if they still have that under the counter offer

      • Still available.

  • I think I might port from Telstra to Optus. How hard is it? Will I be disconnected for long or is the process painless?

    • Painless, only cuts over once you activate the new service.

      Don't like Telstra or?

      • Telstra generally has better coverage but the deals are usually worse. I don't go to the country often but Optus has the better deals. Vodafone I still can't trust.

        • You'd be surprised, give Vodafone a go, you can leave within 30 days no questions asked also.

        • @apptrack:

Still haven't made up my mind. I will have to ask Telstra if they can get close to matching Optus or Vodafone.

        • +1

@gccmelb: Go on web chat and choose disconnections. I renewed my BYO plan and got 15gb, unlimited calls and texts and unlimited calls to certain countries for $45 with Telstra :)

  • +2

you can get 25% off if u add a second service to ur optus account , just ask customer service, I had chat with them last week

    • Sounds like what my bro got :D

  • For anyone looking at this it's worth mentioning this old deal is still working, so some may be able to take advantage of 25% off if it's an additional service. It says on the Optus landing page that the deal finishes on the 31st July, but the page is still working….

  • I would not recommend this one. I have this, faced a lot of difficulty with optus network, in general.
Sounds too good to be true but I would suggest pay a bit more and get either Vodafone or Telstra. If be, get a plan from service provides who use the Telstra frequency bands.

    • +1

Could it possibly be your phone? Give this a website a go to compare the different bands available to your phone. https://willmyphonework.net/

      • I have an iPhone 7 Plus. Fairly sure it is not my phone.
I would say 4G is good, as it should be, but you can find better experience on other networks. (My friends & I have compared this over several occasions and sites)

Make sure you disable premium sms/content. Optus is scamming customers by enabling it on default. I accidently clicked a button on a Facebook ad and I was billed immediately and an sms sent to my phone number…. I didn't have to enter any details it was a dodgy button on a Facebook ad.

    • How did you disable this ? calling them ? i was caught out similarly. didn't know it was possible to charge by clicking on Facebook link.

      • +1

You can ask them to disable it on their chat. I didn't either… Never knew that a simple misclick would cause me so much grief. I clicked on a facebook ad that went to a webpage and in order to read the next page I had to click [ CONTINUE ]. I clicked [ CONTINUE ] 4 times and then on the last page they changed it from [ CONTINUE ] to [ CONFIRM ] and hidden in small text was you agree to being charged for our premium service. Very dodgy. I am still disputing my charges. There is a massive thread on it https://yescrowd.optus.com.au/t5/Mobile/MIA-Sphere-Live/td-p….
My parents have also been caught out with this Optus Scam that Optus supports. "MIA SPHERE LIVE"

        • +1

Ok thanks. sorry to hear that.

I was clicking through a slideshow and didn't notice instead of Next it changed to Confirm button. Very sneaky.

Lucky it was about $5 of mobile game. A lesson for self.

          @rabkoa:

Yep I got caught out the same way. Look at the photos I uploaded.
          http://imgur.com/gallery/5Ye6z

I kept the photos for my dispute. My finger was hovering over the continue button to spam it constantly to view the next page. I assumed that any sign requiring me to pay would require further details such as name/address and credit card? Optus is happy to hand over our details.

        • @R3XNebular:

YES, I didn't think it was possible to charge with just a click.

Can't believe Optus allows this to happen without proper consent.

  • +1

there is a cancellation fee if you are on a existing plan with them.

anyone who can offer a rep's name/id to waive it?

  • +2

Dont go on Optus if you're working in Docklands. You won't get to use your data. Have left my $40pm 15gb 2mths in. Went back to Telstra. Only Edge and HSDPA 2 bars with Optus. Me and everyone else at work. PSA

    • Check your phone bands. I had no issue near Southern Cross station and beyond. They have put more towers in recently.

    • I'm in Docklands right now and have 3 bars of 4G on Optus.

      • Depends on the building perhaps. Here at collins square its quite bad. Im getting 5 bars 4G telstra pretty much most of the day here. Cant complain. Extra 10 bucks for 12gb on their MX plan. Get what you pay for I guess

        • I work at Collins Square and agree the Optus reception is not great but I usually still get at least 2 bars.

  • my mate from work signed up with 15gb and any additional service get 25% off. means $30 for 15gb.

  • Wow its 14gb now? damn i can't even fully use my 8gb hahahaha

  • can we keep our $5 sharing some on this

  • vodafone offers 20% off sim only plan for students,

also the signal is batter than optus in sydney.

  • +1

Just a word of caution when dealing with optus.
If you are planning to bundle your home phone internet with a mobile plan to get $20 off. Be sure to have everything recorded as it will be a pain to try and chase them up for the discount which they promise you before you sign up. I am one of the many victims and i am currently in contact with the Telecomunication ombusman to sort this out.

  • Nice one. I dropped into a store to pick up a SIM - I thought this would make the porting quicker. Store guy told me it would work. Sign up online, turns out I have to wait for the courier delivery. The activation is tied to the SIM being delivered.

    Mildly annoying.

    • +1

I did the same thing on sunday. Picked up a sim, ported number. Once number was ported over on late monday morning i signed up to upgrade prepaid sim to this plan, and havent had an update since. Went online chat last night, apparently i will recieve an email when the sim leaves the warehouse (whenever that may be).

  • i was an existing customer with Optus on there previous $40 a month 10gig deal, but out of contract just this month. I had the online chat with them this afternoon and simply asked if they could somehow provide me with a better deal then the listed $40 a month 14gig deal, and they said they could give me a further 25% off if i got another number with them. So I cancelled my second number that I already had (for iPad) and proceeded to get the deal.
So it's $30 a month for 12 months @14gigs. seems decent to me. just ask for a better deal and you might well get it. "Limited time only" they said.

  • Sorry I can't recommend Optus. I've been trying to consolidate my phone and tablet plan for 3 months now and they can't do jack. Such a bad experience.

  • i tried to mention that i own other optus services to try and get a discount like how others have gotten it for 30 a month on live chat but no luck they wouldnt do it

  • Looks like the deal is back to 15GB as it was earlier in the year. I tried on chat to get a free upgrade to 15GB but no dice.

    Ends 2/10.

    • Same here. No luck both online live chat and also domestic phone centre. Too hard basket.
