Cheaper than their last yearly deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/314169

    • +3

Basically the same deal, just a clearance price.

      • Still worth it don't you think?

        • +3

I was already thinking of doing it once my Telstra Contract was up within the next 2 months. But now the decision was even easier. :)

  • +5

if only they were sold online

    • I don't understand why they aren't!

They still make money that way, right?

      • No, they have to pay double GST if online

        • You don't think they would sell enough to make it worth their while?

        • +5

Can you explain how its double GST?

        • Genuine question: How?

shadow131 got in while I dawdled.

@czd: Sorry, I'm f$%k@!g with you guys. I thought somebody would have chimed in by now to debunk my comment.

        • +1

@malouphix: chiming in No, he's not really f$%k@!g with you guys

So one gets 42gb data for the whole year not 3.5gb per month? As in, I could (accidentally or for the purpose of the exercise) use the 42gb in one month and have no data left for the next 11 months?

    • +2

Yes, but I believe you can top up Data at $15 for 2GB for 30 days for the rest of the year.

      • Well I guess that is better than the standard $10/GB right?

        • Considering how vodafone and optus are now running ads of 10GB+ a month plans to be the norm, 40GB a year isnt much

        • @holyland: Yeah 42gb sounds enough but when you break it down to 3.5gb per month or that the 42gb has got to last you until the same time next year it's not actually much.
But then again you are only paying $16.60 per month.

        • agreed, i'm still on the last batch and it was nice for them to lock in the old pricing/profit

        • @pennypincher98:
If I could order online I wouldnt hesitate - Im assuming I cant port my existing number(?)

        • @roonie: I have no idea really I have never gone on aldi mobile before. Same if I could order online it would be great.
Amazing price really for what you get on the Telstra network (assuming you don't get Optus or 3g service instead..)

        • @pennypincher98:
I also like the annual limit - FAR more flexible than monthly. Depending where I am, I alternate between StuffAll usage and Phew,AlmostWentOver. Not to mention Telstra!

        • @roonie: I like the idea of an annual limit but the relatively low yearly allowance means you are either majorly screwing yourself over for the last few months or completely relying on wifi hotspots..

        • @roonie: of course you can keep your number

  • +1

    How about international calls?

    • +2

None AFAIK. You need to use regular credit for that.

  • +3

    16 fiddy a month
But the date is pooled. Tempting

    • +5

My date was pooled once, not something I'd recommend to my enemies.

      • Would rather wait for another Lebara deal with 5GB of data per month for $15-$16 and included $50 worth of international calls.

  • Is the service provider Telstra or Optus?

    • +4

      Telstra

    • +10

Telstra wholesale - which means "mostly" Telstra. You won't get access to the full network, especially in outer rural areas.

      • +1

Its still pretty good coverage. Went camping with it last year from melb to Newcastle. Still had signal when my optus friends didn't. Unfortunately no one had Telstra to compare it to.

      • This is VERY important to know if you live rurally, as Telstra is normally recommended as your best option, but most people, including myself have no idea that a company that advertises as using the Telstra network, doesnt actually give you the level of coverage as going through telstra directly does.

  • +1

For some reason thought it said 119 for the year, was almost tempted to break my "I'll pay 30 bucks and have it last a year, WiFi hotspots are everywhere anyway" rule. 200 is too much for me though.

(profanity) ripper of a deal though OP, good spot.

  • What happens after a year is up? I assume you start paying a higher price?

    • +2

After a year is up, you shop around and find another telco deal…

  • Do you know the Item Code/SKU?

    • +2

      56918

      • Aldi Customer Service might be able to help others locate stock. Clearance Pricing tends to vary between stores though.

  • is this nation wide?

  • Zzz, bought it last week for $249.

    • Same. Meh still good value.

  • How is the internet speed? is it slow?

    • Depends on the area and your phone, but access to only 3g/4g. No 4gx access where the fast speeds are.

      • Its 4G is still much faster than Vodafone's that I know for sure.

  • Does it come sim or you need to buy a $5 starter pack with sim and then add this?

    • The sim is included in the pack

  • Anyone found another store offering this deal or is just the one so far?

Planning to check our local stores this afternoon.

    • +1

My local didn't have any stock this morning.

      • +1

        No luck at mine either.

  • omg 10.32 am north Lakes and All gone

    Ozbargainers work fast =(

  • How does ALDI mobile speeds/coverage compare to vodafone?

    Sick of Vodas spotty data

  • Did anyone find another store offering the deal?

  • Does this include unmetered Apple Music (like Boost and Telstra)? And does it have visual voicemail included?

  • +4

Local store in WA has stock but full price.
Said that there has been no communication about dropping the price.
Perhaps deal was that store only.

    • Same with Box Hill South

    • Which store is that imp?

  • +3

South side Brisbane Logan store 2 in stock at full price. No deal

  • +2

Full price at Preston South, they did have 3 packs though. I asked the manager and he said "fat chance" of them discounting it. http://thumbs.imagebam.com/22/69/1a/b7ac8e579256813.jpg

  • Can someone explain to me why one would need more than 3.5gb of data a month? Are you all face timing 24/7? I don't play any games on my phone, just a bit of Facebook, Gumtree, the occasional YouTube video etc. I'd love to understand why 10gb/month should now be "the norm". Are you downloading 10 movies a month using your data? Are you listening music through Spotify? Would love to get enlighten thanks

  • Spotify streaming, youtube on the bus, Netflix when away, Facebook uploads, facebook news feed, any modern website with 1MB banners and 6MB auto-play videos, most websites chew through 2-6 megabytes per page these days. Easily used up if you spend any time away from Wifi. I've still got one of the Optus 3G $2 days unlimited sms, calls and data sims for when I go on work trips as I chew through data for about 3-5 days.

  • Tried at West End in Brisbane and the price is still $249.
