Belong Mobile $55/Month Starter Pack for $27 in-Store @ Coles

321

Ignore the $55 Per Month on the packaging. It's really just $55 credit which can last 3 months when combined with $20 referral credit & activated on a cheaper plan as outlined below. $55 + $20 equals $75 credit. The 2nd option is better because you get more data for an extra $2 charge in the 3rd month.

Option 1… 1st month $30 (25GB) - 2nd month $21 (7GB) - 3rd month $21 (7GB) - Total $72.
Option 2… 1st month $35 (40GB) - 2nd month $21 (7GB) - 3rd month $21 (7GB) - Total $77.

Once your account is set up you can move to the $21 (7GB) plan so it's ready for the next payment date. It's only available after activating on a higher plan.
Belong Plans.

Before you activate make sure you get a referral code from a friend already with Belong or the OzBargain Belong pool for an additional $20 credit. If you've been with Belong before you will have to use a new email in order to get the referral credit again.

  • Unlimited national calls & sms.
  • Unlimited data banking & gifting.
  • No lock-in contracts.
  • Flexibility to change plans once every monthly payment cycle.
  • Data slows to 1Mbps if you use all your monthly allowance.
  • Telstra Network
  • 12 month starter pack expiry (you have 12 months from the purchase date to activate)
  • Limit 2 per customer.

    Thanks!

Great tip with the extra data too.

  • Belong uses Telstra Wholesale, right? Not the full-fat network like Boost?

    • +2

      Correct.

    • Better yet Belong is actually a Telstra subsidiary.

      • Not sure how that is better, when Belong still uses the gimped Wholesale network and not the complete network like Boost…

  • +2

    Thanks for the writeup

  • +3

already on sale - price beat @ Officeworks :)

  • Is it possible to start with $21 plan?

    • +2

No. Minimum activation plan is $30. $21 plan is only available after month 1

  • +2

    Option 2… 1st month $35 (40GB) - 2nd month $21 (7GB) - 3rd month $21 (7GB) - Total $77.

currently bonus data offer, so $35 can actually give 80GB :)

  • -3

The network congestion on this is not worth it. Coverage is good congestion and speeds are unusable in busy areas.

    • -1

Doesn't matter what network deal is posted someone has had a good or bad experience so I guess it depends on your location.

      • +2

My experience is boost is dogshit and belong is so much faster. Just finished my 365 boost and now going to belong today.

      • -2

actually that doesnt really matter - what matters is how many other people are on the same network - for example a busy shopping centre like chadstone telstra is unusable, a long weekend in a tourist town, telstra is unusable, an event, telstra is unusable. too many people for that network to keep up. others are better

        • -1

All those examples are issues to do with location.

          • -2

@WatchNerd: he term "location" refers to a specific place or position in a given space or environment. It can be used in various contexts, such as:

Geographical location: A place defined by its coordinates (latitude and longitude) or a physical address (e.g., a city, country, or building).

Contextual location: The position or setting of something relative to its surroundings, like the location of a shop within a shopping mall or the location of a meeting within an office.

Virtual location: The position of something in a virtual space, such as the location of a file or server in digital systems.

Cultural or social location: Can refer to the position or role someone holds within a social context, such as cultural background or professional environment.

Would you like a definition in a particular context? Let me know if you need more details!

      • KUDO…& device-use, tower/network-congestion, off-peak period, use (eg downloading torrents), events (eg AFL Gather-Round), hills-area, remote-area etc etc etc. Trials & errors…YMMV?

      Depends on so many factors.
      Been using Belong for years.

Using these Deals & referrals, its very cost effective💰

Am in suburbs, where speed slows on weekends & week nights.
But am able to download or watch streamed movies outside those hours. Within those hours movies have occasional glitches

BUT thats using the throttled FREE BELONG DATA - available when your monthly data allowance is used up.

      Am on cheapest 7GB/M plan.
Currently using over 2GB/d of free data!

      • Haha I'm on throttled unlimited data too now, usually watch YT at 480p & it keeps up.

        • +1

          A hidden advantage of Belong😉

          Good to read your feedback.
Wondered how my advice was for others in different "locations".

Watched iView & movie on SBS on Demand tonight with no problems.

      • BUT thats using the throttled FREE BELONG DATA - available when your monthly data allowance is used up…Am on cheapest 7GB/M plan

I can live with the above, but will change from 1-Jul-25, https://www.belong.com.au/support/mobile/getting-started/rec…

Feel free to share any cheap-deals ~ 40Gb/m with details & links…NO monthly porting of mobile#, lol.

        • Yes price for cheapest plan changes from $21/m for 7GB to $25 for 10GB in just over a month. As has been commented elsewhere.

As I change Belong SIMs every 2 or 3 months (sign up with new email & get new number), the $20 referral pays for most of final month cost. (Main number is on Amaysim in dual SIM mobile.)

Always buy discounted packs in Deals, further discounted in Supermarket points offers.
(This Deal is too expensive for me😉)

Have next 2 Belong SIMs ready to install. Thats 5M use beginning 1 June. Will review then. Won't buy more before that.

As don't have home WiFi, major use of Belong is for Data. Primarily my throttled data of ~2GB/d. No sign that is changing. Otherwise will leave.

Been using Belong for many years. Seen many changes. So will keep using it until get a better offer. With occasional use of very cheap or free offers here.

As I've done for 12 years, will keep commenting on good SIM Deals😉
          However everyone's need is different.

Started way back when was asked to write the Wikki How to get the most from a Telstra SIM in Mid 2014…
When a $30 SIM (discounted as low as $1) got us 3GB data for the month!!🤣

          • @INFIDEL: I think you're using 'Referral Links, Belong (Mobile): random (287) Referral for Belong mobile only. Referrer will receive $20 credit. Referee will receive $20 off next (2nd) payment.' -> 'As I change Belong SIMs every 2 or 3 months (sign up with new email & get new number), the $20 referral pays for most of final month cost'

More details pls-> 'Always buy discounted packs in Deals, further discounted in Supermarket points offers. (This Deal is too expensive for me😉)'

Throttled UNlimited-data, what's the throttle-speed, eg 0.1MB/s?-> 'Am in suburbs, where speed slows on weekends & week nights.', being,
            a. OUTside of the above period, &
            b. INside of the above period

Saving heap from NO NBN-bills 💰-> 'As don't have home WiFi'
            True-story: a friend's paying $60/m NBN25-plan. When 4 concurrent-users is on it with 1 streaming, home-internet lags & stutters. He has to use the mobile-data (monthly-sim via money-back deals I gave him) to fix home-internet congestion.

      • +1

@INFIDEL, consider downloading-movie-torrents via FREE-wifi @ places you regularly travel/on-route, eg shopping, pubs, public-wifi etc.-> 'But am able to download … movies'

        • Used to use free WiFi & download movie torrents, especially on my travels overseas. I'm cheap😉

          Mine is not usual usage…
In past, was away on budget holidays much of year. (Chose to rarely work.) Hence wanted to minimise costs. Only paid for internet when here.

Until 12 years ago, that was a cheap month to month ADSL2 service.
When learnt of cheap mobile services on Ozbargain, combined with wireless hotspot - it entirely changed my usage.

So, only connected to mobile data for few months of year. Popped into library etc when ran out of data.

Now use Belong most of year.
(Well over 1TB of data used this year!)
Until I return to overseas travel🌎

@WatchNerd thanks for the post and detailed breakdown on how to get MAX bang for buck!

Just activated and used your referral code :)

    • The link in the description is a random referral code generator, it's not mine. Anyway appreciate you saying thanks.

  • -2

Just be aware that they're not actually pre-paid as per the tags here. They're post-paid in practice, which means you can't turn off auto-renew, and if you cancel, you not only don't get the end of the month's worth of usage, but they claim your phone number as well.

Just be ready to have a SIM from another provider ready to churn to, because once you're signed up, you're locked in for full price renewals.

I'd stay away considering there are far cheaper plans, and the network coverage I found was quite lacking.

    • +1

I didn't add that tag but technically you automatically pay before the month starts, not after. Post-paid means you pay after.
If you don't want to pay simply port out or cancel via the app before the next payment date.

      there are far cheaper plans

I posted this for sim sluts as you can get 3 months use out of it (see the description). Sim sluts don't stay on the same sim once the normal rates apply.
Also if you manage to get a 2nd & 3rd referral it's an even better deal.

      • @WatchNerd, details pls-> 'Also if you manage to get a 2nd & 3rd referral it's an even better deal.'

Not a valid reason for a Neg!
Negging a Deal because it doesn't suit your particular need is invalid.

A PSA that this may not suit all is sufficient.

Always check any provider's conditions before signing up, to see if they suit you.

It is prepaid as you pay in advance for an agreed amount of service.

But like some other providers - it operates differently.

once you're signed up, you're locked in for full price renewals

No, after included credit expires - just port out or terminate service in app before monthly plan renews & fee is charged.
You are warned in emails days ahead of any fees to pay, & shown in app.

Happily been using Belong for years. Never had extra fees charged.

Use SIM until credit runs out, then use a new SIM… (Signing up with different email)
Gifting accumulated Data to next SIM. For years was over 1TB!

Cheap if you buy in Deals & use $20 referral credit.

Better speeds & reception than other cheap telcos where I am.

*PLUS FREE throttled Data (after monthly plan runs out) is a handy feature most seem unaware of. Giving me over 2GB/d at no charge.

You are correct - Belong is different to Boost etc, where the SIM runs out at end of 28 days. With incoming calls & SMS after that.

Belong SIM needs to be terminated, number is lost if not ported, so no continuing incoming calls etc.

I use a main number & use Belong primarily for Data in dual SIM mobile.

Most who are critical haven't used Belong correctly.
      (Discussed in other Deals.)
      eg
Can't cheaply add data (can gift or buy data from others) Use free throttled Data!
Can't change plan in current month -change applies only to following months.

Or choose not to understand how to get the most out of SIM Deals. (I wrote a Wiki on telco Deals many years ago.)

      • -3

        /Eyeroll

As I said, the tag is wrong for the post, plus IMO the coverage was garbage. That's a valid reason for a neg. No need for the rest of your wall of text. If you think it's a good deal, you can vote whichever way you prefer.

        • /Double Eyeroll

          By your reply…
I see you can't be bothered learning from others experiences, or reading telco Conditions. No wonder you have problems🤪

If you consider "Prepaid" tag is incorrect, that's NOT a Neg issue by Voting Guidelines!

Mods say appropriate action isto Report to Mods. And they would have already considered this matter!

It is by definition prepaid. Different providers have different prepaid conditions users need to be aware of!

          Everyone's reception experience differs!!

Belong & Telstra have best reception & speed of any provider in my area. Very happy with it.
Plus am getting over 2GB/d at no added cost with Belong😉

Whereas Optus here is useless, so I just choose not to use it. And ignore Optus Deals. But don't Neg Optus Deals as it works fine for others!

So yours is just a personal gripe, not a Valid reason for a Neg vote by Ozbargain Voting Guidelines! Very misleading!

Otherwise all SIM Deals would deserve Neg votes based on someone's personal experience at a certain location!!

You've been here long enough to understand Valid reasons for Neg Votes (problem with Deal rather than your personal problem) & when to Report rather than Neg Vote!

          • -2

@INFIDEL: I had a bad experience with this company. The objective performance (taking price into account) was poor for me (living in a state capital city). The billing system is objectively inferior to normal pre-paid companies which freely let you cancel in advance and unlike Belong, don't immediately kill off your service nor kill your phone number if you try to cancel. I'd show you a SS of what I mean, but right now, as I type this, their website is even down lmao! I didn't bother to mention this before, but also - getting in touch with their support was a rubbish experience as the offshore person barely understood anything, asked me for a confirmation sms code several times after I explained the service simply wasn't working, and almost immediately escalated to another team, necessitating a 5-6 day wait for the issue to be fixed with no human contact. All of this for more money than alternative pre-paid deals (the current Yomojo deal here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/905576 is basically free for 2-3 months using referral).

Now - what are the requirements for a neg? "Issue with product" and/or "Issue with retailer". I've clearly had both. There's zero ambiguity, it's a valid neg.

Do you have some sort of personal attachment to Belong? It's becoming quite sad to respond to these rants defending Belong (not to mention your absolutely bizarre writing style). You have nothing to teach.

Please stop harassing me with nonsense.

      • Thanks & consider an OzBargain-forum post for others?

        Still churn-sims via money-back deals with TCB/CR/SB?

    • there are far cheaper plans

This is about as dear as posted Belong Deals get😉
It depends on what data etc people want. I won't be buying.

Last month bought $35 SIM (2 months service with total of 87GB) for $17 @Coles less 25% in Flybuys points. Which isn't bad.

Have been SIM hopping for nearly 10 years. Getting great Deals. Often used the free Boost or Amaysim.

When got $80 Belong SIMs free years ago - enjoyed a lot more Data! And gifted that on to next Belong SIM😉

    • Wrong - I've turned off auto renew.

Do people cancel and not port out their number? I have ported out many times during the past few years with no issues.

Reception where I live, work and play are better with Belong/Telstra, compared to Optus and Voda backbone. Pretty happy with this service. Even happier when compared to my Catch mobile prepaid for the same $9ish average per month!

  • Can anyone confirm if this is eligible towards flybuys weekly spend offers?

    • Yes, recently qualified in my 4 x $50 spend for $50 Flybuys credit.
Handy as gave 25% of purchase back💰

      • Cheers!

  • +3

I just read that the cheapest plan (that you can change to after the first month) from 1/7/25 will be $25 for 10GB.

    • -1

Great, not surprised though considering it's owned by Telstra. It wasn't that long ago when it was $10 per month. There's been about 3 price rises since.

    • Mobile industry-wide practices: 6 monthly price-increases & more than ABS inflation%.
Money-back deals via TCB/CR/SB: NET-costs are increasing also.

  • -1

    Lebara $10 30d 40Gb-data (25+15bonus): include freight, or esim, https://www.lebara.com.au/prepaid-plans/30-day/
See if supermarkets sell them a few $ cheaper? I don't port monthly, lol.

deal is already on offer duplicate post
