  • Does Kogan mobile(using Vodafone network) use the Optus network sharing in regional areas?

    • +2

      Yes, 4G only.

      • 4G at all times or just in regional areas?

        • +4

All times on all plans except large monthly.

        • The share arrangement with Optus is in Regional areas only

          NOT METRO!

But regional coverage WAS Vodafone's main weakness

  • +4

Been waiting for the small to go on sale 😢

    • +1

Most likely a deliberate marketing strategy. By making medium plan cheaper than small plan, people will sign up to medium thinking it's a "bargain". Then they forget to cancel/change plan before the 12 months and get hit with the full price.

      • +6

But you can just turn off auto recharge as soon as you activite, really no excuses.

      • it's not auto re-charge, once the 365 days is up, you don't get charged but also it stops working.

Talking from experience (unless they changed it within the past 6 months).

  • +1

Purchase this plan with FIRST and get $5 Kogan.com Credit!

  • +5

    Kogan &/or competitor to offer similar-deal: $135 for 300Gb, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/850338

Watch this space as some mobile-providers may want to increase sales (& hence larger-discount) to close-off their 2024-25 financial year?

  • I'm a bit confused when it says "Kogan Mobile’s MEDIUM & EXTRA LARGE 365 Day Offer is valid for new and existing Kogan Mobile customers" but then later says "voucher does not apply to subsequent recharges"
So does that mean if I'm already on a MEDIUM, I can't use it to recharge? But if I were on another plan, I could use it because it's not a subsequent recharge?

    • Test-it: proceed with the purchase & stop before proceed-to-pay?

    • +11

I think this just means that the discounted price is only applicable for one recharge, not subsequent recharges, unless they have the same offer next May/June . So yes you can recharge with this offer. Just keep in mind that when you recharge you will lose all remaining credit of your existing plan. My Extra Large 365 expires in in June so I will recharge beore the voucher expiry. June is the best time to recharge the 365 plans as the plans are always on sale in May/ June of each year.

      • This ^^^

      • I was thinking that was the case, if I recharge now I lose 2 weeks of credit from last years plan…

        • Remember you don't have to recharge today if you buy today. The voucher is valid until the end of June.

  • eSim :)

    • +2

Remember when we had to check if they support VoLTE - now all do

  • +5

Hey guys if you are a large user just a reminder that Lyca works out cheaper ($180 for 11 months), more data, and also 5g. https://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/bundles/sim-only-plans/#lon….

    • +1

Read a lot of negative comments about Lyca on ozbargain. Why is this? I assume the network experience is the same since both Vodafone.

      • +3

my read is that lyca seems to have useless phone support

kogan is all mumbai but at least they are useful or 'do the needful'

if nothing goes wrong then lyca could be ok?

        • Makes sense. I rarely need to contact support so might try my luck but hate that it's only 11 months. EOFY is when these deals pop up so I will be left a month short and will miss out but don't have much of a choice since I used up all of my current Vodafone data.

          • +1

@alb3rtt: You don't need support, until you do, thing is Australian call centres can be a shower of useless bastards as well, had a horrible time trying to port into Coles mobile and spoke to some pretty ordinary Australian based 'support' happy to lie just to get you off the phone.

    • +2

      The worst provider, bar none

    • Problems reported & not-sure if it's still current, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/875019

@Nov-24: Lyca's systems seems UN-refined (eg porting) relative to others.

    • Bad experience with Lyca so far and haven’t even activated my service yet.
Ordered 2 x sims and has taken over 3 weeks to get it through the mail. When it arrived, I had only received 1 out of the 2 sims that I ordered. When I called up customer service, they were Indian and extremely unhelpful and rude… do not recommend

  • EXTRA LARGE 365, $199, $16.58 per month for 40GB. Easily the best value in Australia on the Vodafone network 👏 Kogan upgraded my plan to 5G for 3 months last year. I hope they bring 5G back! Although I have no complaints for the service quality, just lacks in some regional areas.

  • +3

My prepaid voucher from a previous deal was expired by a week when my old plan ran out .
Called and was told this one time they would give me a new coupon that would be valid for another week . Did it straight away and I had been upgraded to a Large plan from the medium .
A week later it was my birthday and received another 5Gb . Will probably only use 10Gb all year but it was a fairly pleasant experience non the less .

No one on oZbargain is reading this, unless its a rant about poor kogan service no one cares.

and honestly, its vodaphone that handles all of the kogan mobile enquires anyway so kogan service isn't applicable.

      • +2

I went camping over easter and was genuinely surprised at how great their signal was .
Vodaphone used to be dreadful . It's not so bad anymore .

        • +2

Must be the expanded regional coverage shared with Optus that was recently switched on. Makes me definitely consider Voda for my next plan.

  • +3

Apparently they are doing pre-EOFY sales by looking at the date, HOLD!!!!

    • Who is ‘they’? Kogan?
Hold as in, don’t get this deal yet?

    • +1

Yeah, June last year the XL was $150…

      • Yep, I would wait till late June so you’ll always get the cheaper recharge every year if you stay ;)

      • Same. Im waiting for that sale. Hopefully, it works for existing customers too.

  • +1

Been having heaps of issues with kogan recently in Brisbane. Hardly any reception, Web pages not loading. Was OK at the start but last few weeks has gone to shit.

    • +1

Same here….. really bad in Lidcombe and Pendle Hill, the two areas I mostly use. It's not everywhere in these suburbs, but Kogan has been useless in a few spots lately.

      • +4

Planned network maintenance in both those areas for the next two weeks (4G only) if that helps..

  • -1

Is it just $120/year from Everyday Mobile?

    • 75GB

      • +2

and its only for 180 days.

  • Really, the reception is very poor. In public transit, everyone has reception except for me, definitely worse than carriers with Optus or Telstra.

  • -2

Peak downloads is around 18Mbps, peak uploads is around 1.2Mbps, you will have a spotty voice call, and forget about the video calls when on cellular connection.

    • +1

depending where you are I guess. I was on their plan and I would get much more than these speeds in metro area.

  • +1

Been on them for years. Always worked great for me, never had any issues, and the customer service was surprisingly quick and helpful on the one time I’ve needed it.

  • Medium $139 (Normally $190) Save $51 (26%)
    Extra Large $199 (Normally $300) Save $101 (33%)

  • +3

The 500gb was $150 last year. I suggest we hodl.

    • Lycra is objectively cheaper, can purchase right now, no need to hodlen. Kogans gonna have to do better to compete.

    • Damn my Boost plan runs out tomorrow!

  • Also an option for 17GB/M same price, good for kids/people who have poor control over data.

  • My Kogan sim has always been painfully slow (for data) inner city Brisbane. Better at outer suburb

  • New customer only? can we use it for recharge? thanks

    • No, existing customer CAN chose any of their DISCOUNTED plans….test it out.

  • +6

Use code APPLOVE on the Kogan app to get $5 off

Thanks so much, will be switching from amaysim as they can't offer me any decent long expiry deals

    • +1

      Thanks and thanks OP.

    • +1

Where do you enter the code?

      • Once you login and go through checkout, the code box should appear at payment

  • missed out on the $169 for 300gb instead, now no choice but have to get this one instead.

  • Silly question, but do you still need physical sim to activate, even if you get the eSIM?

Can't work it out, and would be very annoying if you do…

  • Does anyone use these in 4G modems? I had tried to use an optus mobile Sim in my 4G modem but it detected that the modem wasn't a phone and wouldn't allow connection to the internet, apparently I needed a Optus data Sim rather than a mobile Sim. Just a bit worried Kogan might restrict what device can be used with their mobile Sim.
