  • Does Kogan mobile(using Vodafone network) use the Optus network sharing in regional areas?

    • +2

      Yes, 4G only.

      • 4G at all times or just in regional areas?

        • +4

All times on all plans except large monthly.

        • The share arrangement with Optus is in Regional areas only

          NOT METRO!

But regional coverage WAS Vodafone's main weakness

  • +5

Been waiting for the small to go on sale 😢

    • +1

Most likely a deliberate marketing strategy. By making medium plan cheaper than small plan, people will sign up to medium thinking it's a "bargain". Then they forget to cancel/change plan before the 12 months and get hit with the full price.

      • +6

But you can just turn off auto recharge as soon as you activite, really no excuses.

      • it's not auto re-charge, once the 365 days is up, you don't get charged but also it stops working.

Talking from experience (unless they changed it within the past 6 months).

  • +1

Purchase this plan with FIRST and get $5 Kogan.com Credit!

  • +6

    Kogan &/or competitor to offer similar-deal: $135 for 300Gb, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/850338

Watch this space as some mobile-providers may want to increase sales (& hence larger-discount) to close-off their 2024-25 financial year?

  • I'm a bit confused when it says "Kogan Mobile’s MEDIUM & EXTRA LARGE 365 Day Offer is valid for new and existing Kogan Mobile customers" but then later says "voucher does not apply to subsequent recharges"
So does that mean if I'm already on a MEDIUM, I can't use it to recharge? But if I were on another plan, I could use it because it's not a subsequent recharge?

    • Test-it: proceed with the purchase & stop before proceed-to-pay?

    • +13

I think this just means that the discounted price is only applicable for one recharge, not subsequent recharges, unless they have the same offer next May/June . So yes you can recharge with this offer. Just keep in mind that when you recharge you will lose all remaining credit of your existing plan. My Extra Large 365 expires in in June so I will recharge beore the voucher expiry. June is the best time to recharge the 365 plans as the plans are always on sale in May/ June of each year.

      • This ^^^

      • I was thinking that was the case, if I recharge now I lose 2 weeks of credit from last years plan…

        • +2

Remember you don't have to recharge today if you buy today. The voucher is valid until the end of June.

      • Thanks. This answers what I was wondering. If I could buy now and it would tack onto the end of my current plan.
My plan ends in early August, so I might be better grabbing this and recharging and taking the 1.5 month or so hit to be more inline with sales?

        • Yes thats what I would do and have done in the past. End of financial year sales are in May/June so losing a few months of service is worth the 30 to 50% savings on your recharge each year.

  • eSim :)

    • +2

Remember when we had to check if they support VoLTE - now all do

  • +5

Hey guys if you are a large user just a reminder that Lyca works out cheaper ($180 for 11 months), more data, and also 5g. https://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/bundles/sim-only-plans/#lon….

    • +2

Read a lot of negative comments about Lyca on ozbargain. Why is this? I assume the network experience is the same since both Vodafone.

      • +3

my read is that lyca seems to have useless phone support

kogan is all mumbai but at least they are useful or 'do the needful'

if nothing goes wrong then lyca could be ok?

        • Makes sense. I rarely need to contact support so might try my luck but hate that it's only 11 months. EOFY is when these deals pop up so I will be left a month short and will miss out but don't have much of a choice since I used up all of my current Vodafone data.

          • +1

@alb3rtt: You don't need support, until you do, thing is Australian call centres can be a shower of useless bastards as well, had a horrible time trying to port into Coles mobile and spoke to some pretty ordinary Australian based 'support' happy to lie just to get you off the phone.

    • +2

      The worst provider, bar none

    • Problems reported & not-sure if it's still current, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/875019

@Nov-24: Lyca's systems seems UN-refined (eg porting) relative to others.

    • Bad experience with Lyca so far and haven’t even activated my service yet.
Ordered 2 x sims and has taken over 3 weeks to get it through the mail. When it arrived, I had only received 1 out of the 2 sims that I ordered. When I called up customer service, they were Indian and extremely unhelpful and rude… do not recommend

  • +2

EXTRA LARGE 365, $199, $16.58 per month for 40GB. Easily the best value in Australia on the Vodafone network 👏 Kogan upgraded my plan to 5G for 3 months last year. I hope they bring 5G back! Although I have no complaints for the service quality, just lacks in some regional areas.

  • +4

My prepaid voucher from a previous deal was expired by a week when my old plan ran out .
Called and was told this one time they would give me a new coupon that would be valid for another week . Did it straight away and I had been upgraded to a Large plan from the medium .
A week later it was my birthday and received another 5Gb . Will probably only use 10Gb all year but it was a fairly pleasant experience non the less .

    • -4

No one on oZbargain is reading this, unless its a rant about poor kogan service no one cares.

and honestly, its vodaphone that handles all of the kogan mobile enquires anyway so kogan service isn't applicable.

      • +2

I went camping over easter and was genuinely surprised at how great their signal was .
Vodaphone used to be dreadful . It's not so bad anymore .

        • +2

Must be the expanded regional coverage shared with Optus that was recently switched on. Makes me definitely consider Voda for my next plan.

  • +4

Apparently they are doing pre-EOFY sales by looking at the date, HOLD!!!!

    • Who is ‘they’? Kogan?
Hold as in, don’t get this deal yet?

    • +4

Yeah, June last year the XL was $150…

      • Yep, I would wait till late June so you’ll always get the cheaper recharge every year if you stay ;)

        • does this plan work for existing customers?

          • @oldyellah: Yes I believe so, it’s one of the options when purchasing (they send you a voucher code).

      • Same. Im waiting for that sale. Hopefully, it works for existing customers too.

  • +1

Been having heaps of issues with kogan recently in Brisbane. Hardly any reception, Web pages not loading. Was OK at the start but last few weeks has gone to shit.

    • +1

Same here….. really bad in Lidcombe and Pendle Hill, the two areas I mostly use. It's not everywhere in these suburbs, but Kogan has been useless in a few spots lately.

      • +5

Planned network maintenance in both those areas for the next two weeks (4G only) if that helps..

  • -1

Is it just $120/year from Everyday Mobile?

    • 75GB

      • +2

and its only for 180 days.

  • Really, the reception is very poor. In public transit, everyone has reception except for me, definitely worse than carriers with Optus or Telstra.

  • -2

Peak downloads is around 18Mbps, peak uploads is around 1.2Mbps, you will have a spotty voice call, and forget about the video calls when on cellular connection.

    • +1

depending where you are I guess. I was on their plan and I would get much more than these speeds in metro area.

    • just tried it out at the shops today( got the sim yesterday it was getting 25 mbps so possibly could get higher not sure about upload though

  • +2

Been on them for years. Always worked great for me, never had any issues, and the customer service was surprisingly quick and helpful on the one time I’ve needed it.

    • +2

I've been a customer with Kogan for about 7 years too and the signals been good- I live in Melbourne CBD though. Only times i've had issues was when travelling regionally.

  • Medium $139 (Normally $190) Save $51 (26%)
    Extra Large $199 (Normally $300) Save $101 (33%)

  • +4

The 500gb was $150 last year. I suggest we hodl.

    • Lycra is objectively cheaper, can purchase right now, no need to hodlen. Kogans gonna have to do better to compete.

    • Damn my Boost plan runs out tomorrow!

  • Also an option for 17GB/M same price, good for kids/people who have poor control over data.

  • My Kogan sim has always been painfully slow (for data) inner city Brisbane. Better at outer suburb

  • New customer only? can we use it for recharge? thanks

    • No, existing customer CAN chose any of their DISCOUNTED plans….test it out.

      • Cool. Is there a way via the login or do I need to just get the voucher code route?

  • +11

Use code APPLOVE on the Kogan app to get $5 off

Thanks so much, will be switching from amaysim as they can't offer me any decent long expiry deals

    • +1

      Thanks and thanks OP.

    • +2

Where do you enter the code?

      • Once you login and go through checkout, the code box should appear at payment

    • +1

Love it! Thank you so much!

    • seems the code box is now closed, I went through to payment screen and can no longer see it…

      • +1

It still works but you need to use the Kogan app not the Kogan mobile app.

        • I used the Kogan.com App on iPhone and was unable to see the code box. Still went ahead to purchase one anyway Thanks

          • +1

@OZGE: I can't see it on Android either. I've tried both the Kogan.com shopping app and the Kogan mobile. 🤷

  • missed out on the $169 for 300gb instead, now no choice but have to get this one instead.

  • Silly question, but do you still need physical sim to activate, even if you get the eSIM?

Can't work it out, and would be very annoying if you do…

    • +1

You don't need the physical sim, esim works great if your phone is compatible.

You get the esim email and voucher quickly and could start the port the same time. Already activated and great signal so far

  • Does anyone use these in 4G modems? I had tried to use an optus mobile Sim in my 4G modem but it detected that the modem wasn't a phone and wouldn't allow connection to the internet, apparently I needed a Optus data Sim rather than a mobile Sim. Just a bit worried Kogan might restrict what device can be used with their mobile Sim.

    • Ive been using an optus prepaid mobile sim and have had no problems in my modem. Was using the old huawei modem that optus provided and then switched to the nokia fastmile. Bought a vodafone prepaid recently and it detects its a modem and blocks tethering. Supposedly vodafone meant to detect if hotspotting of the mobile, but its working for that.

      • Many thanks for the info. Optus was ok in the modem a few months ago but not now, so I think they have changed something with their new plan changes. Looks like Vodafone might be doing a similar thing. Will have to read the fine print more carefully when buying a Sim for a modem.

  • -3

Avoid for all cost. They were good before they stopped 3G. The reception now is only 4G and they don't have 5G. That's why the reception is extremely bad

  • Just wondering if anyone can help confirm, will I still be able to receive SMS while I'm overseas if I don't have roaming turned on? I don’t need to make calls or use mobile data, just need to receive text messages.

  • Not hte cheapest it has been but thank you just ran out of data, purchased the $199

  • Is Kogan Refer a Friend (for new customers) still working? for 100GB of bonus data?

  • Potentially a silly question: Can we pay for this using (discounted) Kogan gift cards, and where is it best to get them?

    • +1

      Yes. And check the wiki

    • Caution, 'Voucher cannot be used in conjunction with any other vouchers or promotional offers'.

    • I’ve been renewing mine yearly for many years using gift cards. Usually try to stock up on the occasional upsize from the usual cashback sites but if all else fails I grab some from my Bupa portal.

    • Thanks team. Bought giftcard from Bupa rewards, loaded to account and checkout with Kogan credits.

  • I'm currently with Kogan 365 day Pre-paid. Is this for new customers only? Or do I need to port out then back in?

What's the easier and cheapest way to port out and back in these days?

    Thank you

    • You should be able to use as recharge voucher. I have done it in the past.

  • +1

Was about to sign up to this until i contacted amaysim.

at first amaysim offered 20% discount and when i told them i was moving to kogan for $139, they offered me a 50% discount.

    200gb for $100 365 days.

    • How many times have you done this?
I've done this 5 years in a row now, but this year only managed 15%. Just wondering if I should try angle for more.

      • This was the first time haha.
I wss ready to port out too

  • you guys know when this on sale again? i need 2 around October and November…

  • -2

Anyone know if you can buy discounted Kogan gift cards add that to Kogan account to buy this? Anyone tried?

  • What is the likelihood that they would do the 500gb for $150 around mid June like last year?

  • Hi, reading through the notes trying to work out if you’re already a customer with Kogan and you want to do your first recharge with this work. Can anyone confirm who has tried it? Thanks

    • yep, i can confirm.

I was already a customer from last year and my expired yesterday, and today i bought a this medium voucher and added it in and im good for another year.

  • EOFY deals are out guys. But only on Large at 33% off - $159 and I think they've removed Medium and X-large from the deals. Dissapointing but I need to recharge so will probs grab a Large plan anyway.
