Wow, didn't need this but now have an urgent need to acquire.

  • Just confirming that this NUC does not come with RAM or storage (HDD/SDD)?

The total price for NUC/RAM/SSD was $1163.54 after 20% discount. I like the idea of NUC's, but what advantages would this setup have over a tradition PC box?

    • They are compact, so you can free up leg-room or desk space. It's pretty efficient as the CPU is a high-end laptop CPU. I personally want one to run headless, I'd slap Ubuntu on it and let it automatically download + compress TV shows for me. It's mainly the form factor that's appealing.

    • Only size i assume, not supposed to compete with desktops. I travel a bit for work so i take it there, take on holidays can plug it into hdmi tv slot, i also multiple residence so good for that. If you don't need smaller size and keep computer in same spot then obviously desktops can't be beaten.

Thunderbolt, slap a GPU enclosure with GTX 1080 Ti, daaaamnnn,
i can already feel the throttling….

  • So this Skull Canyon:

i7-6770HQ, 500GB SSD, 16GB RAM, Intel Iris Pro Graphics 580 for $1160 (ish) and no OS

    VS.

    Dell Inspiron-15-17 Gaming Laptop

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-7000-Gaming-Core…

    i5-7300HQ, 250 GB SSD, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB GDDR5 for $1200 and Windows 10.

I know the Dell has a crap display but if you hook it up to a decent monitor hopefully not so bad?

I think the Dell is a better offer but what do you guys think?

This is how computing works, basically the smaller something is for the same performance the more expensive it will be.

EG, Desktops will give you better performance than laptops for the same price.
Laoptops will give you better performance than NUC for the same price.

      • A laptop will also come with a display, keyboard, 'mouse' and battery

  • I love the idea but unfortunately these things are never gonna be as good value as getting a laptop on bargain sale.

    • These serve a different purpose to laptops. They were originally designed as set top boxes. They can be mounted onto the back of a TV if it has a compatible mounting plate. Connecting a laptop to a TV leaves things fairly messy.

As a desktop replacement they're great if you need desk space and don't plan to do anything demanding (e.g. you can't play most games). As a laptop replacement, probably not useful.

  • I have one, don't expect to do serous gaming on these unless your willing to spend big for the egpu and card, one could probably build with 2 108o's in sli for much less with faster memory and bus. Asus make a sweet egpu though www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards-Accessory/ROG-XG-STATION-2/ Mine also has a common fault not resolved with over 12 months of bios updates where it will randomly reboot every day. Their is a intel forum with similar experiences I've never seen it happen but each day I come home to find it rebooted. Iris pro is a bit of a gimmick when talking serious gaming. If you were rich you could take your skull canyon to your work/penthouse/batcave thanks to thunderbolt 3 for all you glistening fanboy texture goodness!

  • Oh and great price OP!

  • Very tempted.

  • SEXY

  • Can i mount it on a 27" monitor? I mean this one is larger than normal nuc.

  • Amazing! This is the only NUC (available in the market) which can run windows Server OS.
