    Selling at MSY for $170

Price is ok if you need delivery and are using cashrewards (which I guess is most of us) to get another ~$3 cashback.

Good drive though, got one a while back for $159 after 20% off. It's stupid fast; tops out at 3100 MB/s read and 1400 MB/s write. However coming from a 950 pro, it seems about the same in terms of boot and program loading times. Still, it's neat to have and freed up a sata port :)

yeah …… once you have ssd it's hard to notice real world differences from one brand vs another …..the big revelation comes moving from spindle to ssd.
when m.2 is same price for 1tb as 2.5" format, then i can fill that slot on my motherboard.

      • I read that going from SATA SSD to m.2 PCIe 3 SSd is like going from HDD to SDD. Speeds seem to double or triple on the Samsung evo

        • +3

Yeah, no. The real world improvements are minimal after ssd. Windows, games in benchmarks had hardly any measurable difference the last review I looked at.

        • @scuderiarmani: I can confirm this. I went from the 850 Pro to the 950 Pro to keep my new build minimal on clutter. While I notice the change in certain situations, you have to be the sort of person who looks for it, and even then 99% of the time the average user is going to be doing things that won't benefit greatly from the speed. Going from an HDD to a SSD was a game changer. Going from SATA to NVME is nothing like that. If you're building a new system or just want to reduce clutter, they are priced cheaply enough, but it would be a silly choice of upgrade if you were looking to improve performance from an existing SATA SSD.

        • From what I have read online that you won't notice any difference unless you have some sort of proper monitoring tools. Where it comes handy is if you do photo/video edits, read and write speed will have some benefits.
I have the 512GB and use it for this purpose and not as a boot disk for OS.

          @boredofficeworker:
I literally wanna change build just for nvme to reduce clutter in case, I think I have issues :)

        • @nadan: You will notice it in some scenarios (again, you have to be looking for it). For instance, if you happen to copy a very large file to the same drive, pew pew.

        • Haha, don't worry I know them feels.

        • @scuderiarmani:
You don't need NVME for that, there's m.2 850 EVOs

      • +3

Agreed. Despite my username, there aren't going to be many real world use cases where I'd notice the increase of a 960 EVO or Pro over my 950 Pro (…or even one of the slower NVMe PCIe based competitor M.2 drives). Even if you were.. say.. working with 8K footage from a RED camera, you're probably going to be bottlenecked by other parts of your hardware.

        Still want a 2TB 960 Pro though :p

    • +1

950 pro seemed more expensive when I looked

      • Yeah it was, but I recently upgraded to a system that has an m.2 slot, so i thought it would be way faster; which it still is of course.

Ended up selling the old pc along with the pro as the boot drive.

  • Can i use this to replace the 128gb m.2 in the acer travelmate b117?

  • If it only writes 1gb how do I fill the whole 250gb?

      Cheeky bugger! Fixed for ya

    $161.64 delivered @ futuregear eBay.

    • Nice find, I've never dealt with futuregear though.

    • Good find, how the hell did I miss that… Added link in description

  • I bought exactly the same stick 2 months ago and it has been brilliant.

Roughly the size of a stick of gum. Really cool stuff.

  • I put the 1tb version in my X1 Carbon. Excellent upgrade.

  • Will it work in this Optiplex 9010?

  • is this compatible with Late 2013 27" iMac?

    • MacSales.com only shows SATA SSD upgrades (and they are very comprehensive).

      https://eshop.macsales.com/upgrades/imac-27-inch-late-2013-3…

      • thank you, but isn't it late 2013 models come with pci-e?

        • I had a look but i couldn't see any info on it having SSD card slots, and Apple's early slots were not compatible with the M2 spec. I'm not sure if that's still the case.

Have a look on ifixit.com and you'll soon see.

        • @SirDale: thanks

  • If you're reading this and have a ASUS G751, get a 950 instead. I'm close to getting native support going for SS950 in the Aptio BIOS. But it will be harder for the SS960. You can pester me and track the progress on to ROG forum.

  • Bought! Thanks OP.
