Cheapest 500GB Samsung Evo SSD is $224 on StaticIce

There is 4 models available, all with a quad core i5 6400T, 2xDDR3L SODIMM slots/2-4 2.5" HDD/SSD and Intel HD Graphics 530

Full specs are available per model at MSY - general specs available at ASUS website: https://www.asus.com/au/Mini-PCs/VivoMini-VC65R/specificatio…

These would make a super fast office/general use PC when paired with 8/16GB of RAM and will play almost anything you throw at it should you consider using it as a HTPC!

Note: Memory and OS are not provided

  • Could make a nice NAS / PLEX server, would just be limited to 2.5 drives but thats okey…

    • Yeah 4*2TB 2.5's would be pretty good!

The more expensive one has an optical disc drive.

One of the three cheaper ones can take 4 x 2.5" drives.

Can't tell the difference between the remaining two units… ¯_(ツ)_/¯

One's the VC65, which has the H110 chipset and has 4 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 ports, whereas the other is the VC65R which has the H170 chipset, supports RAID 0/1 and has 6 USB 3.0 ports.

Lenovo has complete units (not barebones) for ~$600 delivered with 500GB HDD and 4GB RAM. Doesn't have SSD but has an M.2 slot, slightly cheaper if you don't mind HDD.

I have done a bit of research after posting this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/324321

Asus website does not have a clear comparison of these models, they made it so hard for you to choose, no wonder these mini PCs are not so popular compare to Intel's NUC.

    Warning for consideration
    • EOL models
    • quite a number of people facing random issues after using them for a while

Below are some quick differences between 4 models listed on MSY's website

    VC65-G065M
    • 2 x 2.5" drive bay
    VC65-G066M
    • 2 x 2.5" drive bay
    • 1 DVDRW drive included
    VC65R-G001M
    • 2 x 2.5" drive bay
    • built-in RAID
    VC65R-G002M
    • 4 x 2.5" drive bay
    • built-in RAID
    • Good info!

Still very cheap for a quad core PC!
