If you don't plan on using the S Pen or the dual cameras, better off buying an S8+ for like $400 less. But great deal nevertheless considering it was just released!

    • +1

It say Australian stock. Might be able to claim wireless charging pad and screen protection. Hopefully

      • Bought the s8+ from Vaya on the last deal. the stock comes directly from amaysim.

        • Hi chumlol, did your s8+ come with Optus branding?

        • +1

@disa1377: no branding at all. only the shipping label was the indicator it had come from amaysim.

        • @chumlol: I just order from them, how long did it take you to receive the phone? thks

        • @disa1377: I think 3-4 days? I ordered on a weekend though. But bare in mind this is a pre-order.

      • i messaged them and got this reply, they ignored the part of my question about screen assurance.

New message from: vaya_shop (893Purple Star)
        Hi,
If purchased before 22nd of Sept will include the offer to redeem a wireless charger from Samsung directly.

    • -3

400 less? I doubt it. Maybe $100 less. (With Aussie stock, no LTE Dual SIM nonsense)

      • My bad, didn't realise it was australian stock.

      • +5

        LTE Dual SIM nonsense

Why is that nonsense? It's actually very useful for some people.

        • -3

Its not really Dual Sim when the slot is taken by the micro SD card.

    • Kind of agree with you. Despite the pen being a cool feature and I've used it often on my note 5, it seems like they haven't updated the slot and access mechanism that lodges stuck after 6-12 months. I've had to add graphite and superglue several times to fix it and it is still stuck as we speak with only a very specific trick to get it out that works 60% of the time every time. I love the note phone but can't justify the price and the s-pen being the way it is to get the new version.

    • +1

It's good you offered 20% off deal but still why is this phone so expensive, $1200 is still a lot. Ability to use GearVR I think is not a good selling point now that JB-HI sell ZTE Axon 7 for $500 and you can use Daydream with it.

I know the camera is better than the ZTE, but why would the RRP be 3x that of a comparable phone?

      • +2

I am guessing the camera is three times better than the Axon. Seriously though it is getting to a stage where the phone is the replacement laptop or tablet and they are being priced accordingly.

I am not sure I would pay that price though and ZTE should be commended for making such an affordable and good quality phone with great features.

        • Yes they call them Phonelets or Pablets or something. I have a good PC setup, for doing work, study or even just browsing the internet desktop PC wins hands down. If you were asked to do research on a subject, you can always do it faster on a PC with mouse and keyboard, using tablets and phones for that stuff is cumbersome.

        • +2

@freemoneyhunter: the comparison you are trying is that the axon is better than a note 8. Which is a stupid comparison. If you think this is too much money then that's great for you. The iPhone and pixel cost more than this rrp.

This phone is for people that want a great Samsung phone with a stylus. For that there is no competition.

        • @OnlinePred: A great Samsung phone with a stylus? Isn't this the only model with a stylus? Of course there'd be no competition then.

      • +6

why is this phone so expensive

Marketing and the desire for status demonstrated by holding a shiny object aside, the one unique thing that the note series has is an amazing active stylus which shits all over nonactive stylus. It's very nice to write with and taking note is great that way.

Of course this is more or less an S8+ and the S8 doesn't have that unique stylus thing so it's pretty funny that phones costing less than 1/4 of that run everything most users run just fine. But status symbols etc.

        • -2

I've never seen anyone using a stylus to write anything on their phone, the virtual keyboard which comes with all phones is good enough to type with, why would you need to use a stylus? Must be more marketing gimmicks for the cruds to fall for. Palm pilot 2 decades ago debuted with a stylus until the virtual keyboard was invented and it became defunct.

        • +1

@freemoneyhunter: I've never known anyone that thought the stylus was dead or died. Lol. It's like you don't know Tech at all.

        • @freemoneyhunter: had a note 2 for years. Didn't use the stylus a whole lot. Only reason I got it at the time was it had the larger display the others lacked.

Stylus suits some people but not many

        • +1

@BargainKen: I had a Note 4 for just over 2 years, it wasn't until there was the big Touchwiz update with the Note 5 that I actually started using it. Writing notes with a pen/paper/stylus is something that comes naturally to me over typing with on screen keyboards, so when the screen off notes came in, that's when I started using it more and more. Soon I was drawing up measurements (house reno and furniture shopping) with the stylus, something I could not have done without it (easily). Later I then started capturing screen portions and scribbling on them before sharing, or scribbling on photos etc (nearly all social apps have the ability to write and draw on things, a stylus just makes it so much easier).

So I guess once you start finding the use for it, that's why you would buy a note now. As there are no other good phone that has this ability.

    • I'd say that if people didn't plan on using the S Pen or an optical zoom lens, then they prob wouldn't be looking at the Note right? I mean it's the same as saying don't waste $1.2k on an S8+ if you want an SPEN or dual cameras….

      • It comes with a base config of 6GB ram so that would help touchwiz somewhat. The note series typically have a slight spec bump from the S series

        • Not typically, sometimes it did in the very early days. Otherwise was mostly the same just bigger screen.

        • @OnlinePred:

Received a message saying it'll be shipped from HK…

  • So quick!

    • +4

      That's what she said!

      • +1

        That's what she said!

I feel sorry for her, whoever she is.

  • Is it a good seller?

Want to buy a MacBook from them but have concerns since read the feedbacks

    • +1

Can't complain so far. Item arrived on time and works fine but the proof will be in the warranty claim process :S

    • +2

Its an australian seller, owned by amaysim which provides good service. Don't think they'll be as good as the other Aust retailers with actual storefronts such as JB hifi, Good Guys but should still be miles better than the online grey importers.

FYI Vaya use to have a bad rep for their mobile plan services, such as charging customers the incorrect amount and continually charging when you cancel a mobile service but they have since been bought out by amaysim.

      • thanks :)

        • Bought iphone 7 from them. Quick delivery and as expected.

  • +4

Comes from Hong Kong, won't we get hit with the import taxes/GST and fees?

    • Good question.

I imagine you'll be charged duties based on $1499 purchase price.

      • Seems like roughly $230 AUD in taxes/fees.

Not really worth it for $1420 AUD

        • no import tax I assumed. Can someone confirm?

        • Does anyone know if this was the case in previous iPhone/S8+ deals from Vaya?

        • @zeus2212:

Why would there be no import tax?

It comes from HK, Vaya won't be paying taxes.

They will also be accurately reporting customs so I doubt it will slip though like it can from other sites.

        • @Unorthodox: see above comments

        • @chumlol:

          See the listing:

        • @chumlol: Seems like there are differing thoughts…

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Pre-order-Samsung-Galaxy-Note8-64…

Downside on this is that the seller has a lower feedback rating

        • @lostn: >See the listing:
was replying to unorthodox. not inputting on the listing details

        • @Unorthodox: Mostly associated with grey imports. The phone I received was aust stock, matching numbers, sealed in case and had genuine aust charger. docs also had it come from amaysim in VIC. Only pointing out that Vaya can provide aust stock as they state.

        • @Unorthodox: Neither store has great feedback tbh.

        • +2

          @lostn:

People have gone trough this before. All their phones show that its from hk. But its sent from Australia with GST.

People were arguing about it in that deal and you were in the convo as well. So you should know.

        • @ko0l:
          Have a +1 for confirming

        • @ko0l: What you linked to does not have me in the conversation.

The screenshot you posted only shows Vaya's PO Box postal address, and not confirmation that said address is where it shipped from.

But if people say it is, then it is. I personally would wait for a more reputable seller, one who makes it clear that the item is in Aust in their listing page and not in an invoice after you've purchased it.

    • They label the packages as gifts.

  • wait so Australian stock - but its from HK??

    • I'm not sure why AU stock would be sitting in HK, but if the listing is to be believed and not an error, that appears to be the case.

  • -1

Will these go out with a bang?

    • -1

Yes. Get it while it's hot.

    • That's a feature not a bug

  • 95.7% Positive Feedback…

This is definitely not Aus stock given it is sent from HK

  • +1

Good people, just save a few of your hard earned pennys and get your self an S8+

    • +1

Why not save some more pennies and get a S7+?

Every new phone has been a minor upgrade since the Galaxy Note 4 in my opinion.

      • +1

Because if it isn't your first upgrade in a few years and you'd be considering the note 8, the s8+ is overall the better option (coming from someone who just upgraded from note 3.).

        • It's mostly the same, but Note 8 aside from Stylus has more RAM and storage options. S8 is only available in 64GB. Note 8 also comes in 128GB and 256GB, if that matters to you.

        • @lostn:

fingerprint sensor on the back kills the deal for me. I use fingerprint exclusively to unlock and find the location simply ridiculous.

        • @lostn:
Note there is a 6GB/128GB S8+ available but it's not nearly as common. Around a ~$200 premium on the regular grey import 4GB/64GB S8+.

        • @Shonky: As I recall, it was Korean exclusive. Won't have local warranty, and may not have our bands.

        • @gnoks: That sucks for you, missing out on the best phones in the market

        • @gnoks: having gone from an S7 Edge to an S8+, I totally agree.
The fingerprint reader on the back is a major dud!

      • 1.5k is a lot of money for a phone, was planning to replace my note 4 with this one but the higher price tag is very disappointing, it looks like people are forced to pay a lot for the brand name. My good old note 4 is still going strong, in fact even my god old first gen note is also going good. Hope the price will come down to under 1k by end of this year.

        • I also have a note 4 and was about to replace it but realised that the S9 will probably be out in March and it will probably be a decent upgrade from the S8 compared to the S8 to the Note 8.

My Note 4 has poor GPS reception, and has a few other issues like random restarts occasionally, but I'll live with it.

        • @samfisher5986: but then a few months after that the note 9 will be out

    • The Camera is not even comparable (major requirement for me)..

    • Save more and get an S8 rather than an S8+. While you are at it save even more and have a hand me down inline 5s. Save more money!

  • gf wants this over S8 or S8+, can anyone help me reasons why not?

    • +14

Because it's too big, wait that might be helping her case

    • S Pen, 6GB RAM, 64/128/256GB, dual lens camera are the main differences. Note 8's battery is 3300mAh vs 3500mAh on S8+. And the free charging pad + screen protection.

It's up to her to work out if those differences are worth the extra cost. If she's going to use the pen, it's worth considering. The other differences to me aren't that important. 64GB is plenty for apps. The rest can go on a card.

    • +3

      women like it big ;)

      • You mean big wallet ?

      • Seriously though, since women's clothing never has pockets, they are forced to carry a handbag anyway. So giant phones are only an inconvenience when making calls, and who uses their phone for that these days?

    • it's only slightly bigger than s8+ but $400 more expensive (at current deal prices.) The s8+ has a slightly better screen to phone ratio
the tech specs aren't that much better for the price either

      • Keep in mind the note 8 screen is less rounded and less curved. So it's better.

  • +1

    samsung phone for rrp $1499!

Miss the days when samsung fanbois laughed at iphones costing $1000+

    Where are those people now?

I honestly want to know what you think :)

    • +2

      Just as ridiculous as iPhone.

But they aren't your only option if you're after an Android or even a Samsung.

To get a cheaper than $1k iPhone, you have to buy older gen models.

    • +1

Still less expensive than the iPhone 7+ 256GB at $1569

      • +1

$1499 note 8 is only 64GB though, obviously there's a lot of added features with a note, but it is still more expensive than the $1349 launch price of note 7. Battery of note 8 is also quite small as well…

        • -2

I've just upgraded from a iPhone 4, I bought that when it came out on a Vodaphone plan for $30 a month for 2 years in 2010, at the time they were selling for $800 new. I will never buy another iPhone because they are too expensive and Apple stops updating them too quickly, I think my last update was IOS6, it's at 10 now. I may have thought about a new iPhone if Apple kept me interested with new apps but no, most of the things on apple won't work on my phone because they refuse to update it, instead their idea is you need to buy a new phone from us. No I do not, and I did not need to buy an overpriced Samsung either. ZTE Axon 7 which I bought comes with 64GB and only $500, Samsux is ripping you off.

        • Battery is not quite small lol. It will get better battery life than pixel xl and iPhone 7+. It also has SD card slot so can insert a 256gb card.

        • +2

@freemoneyhunter: just because you don't want to spend money on things, doesn't make them a rip off. Just because you want cheap inferior products, doesn't mean others do. Axon camera is one of the worst for price. You should have got an mi5s or op3t.

        • @OnlinePred:
How is it not small? The S8+ has a bigger battery with a smaller screen size, I'm sure the battery life of note 8 will be "fine", but not good.

        • @OnlinePred: I wanted Google Daydream compatibility, not many other phones are ready for it.

        • @clse945111: well it's bigger than other phones. S8+ has one of the biggest screen, yet has The best battery life. You really think 200mah is found to make much difference? Some reviews claim it barely makes a difference in comparisons

        • @freemoneyhunter: pixel/S8. Gear VR is far better anyway.

        • @freemoneyhunter:

Iphone 4. Its like 7 year old phone already, if i am not mistaken.

And speaking of not updating your phone for long enough, are you sure you did not mistakenly buy an android. Because i don't think they even update your phone after sale lol.

    • Those people are still using Android phones

    • I used to laugh at iPhone with my Galaxy S2 and S3, which were better phones.

I laughed at the iPhone and Galaxy S4, then S5, with my LG G2.

I laughed at the Samsung, iPhone, HTC7, and so on with my OnePlus3T.

Even these Chinese brands nowadays are $600 brand new (Xiaomi, OnePlus). There's nothing to laugh at…is it inflation? Is the AUD getting weaker?

Samsung makes the most "premium" phones in the Android market, which is now established. People have spent a lot of money on apps in the PlayStore. These prices will only make new customers (teenagers who will be getting phones) think more carefully before getting into the Apple or Android world.

      • I don't know how you had time to think about inflation in between having delusional fits of laughter about how amazing it is that the phone you chose is the best one in the world.

      • +1

There are plenty of phones cheaper.
They cost what they do because they cram as much into them for the $ that they can.
They are now a pocket sized laptop, Bluetooth keyboard, mouse and screen (USB-C is now standardizing as a video cable) and you have a Chromebook.

    • +1

i was reading a story about the upcoming iphone 8 and they estimate its going to cost around 40% more than the 7. Thats a crazy amount if true.

  • +1

    Sold out

  • +3

How do you go "out of stock" on pre-orders??? And only 6 sold.

  • It's back in stock now.
