  • Full HD is good, but everything else is meh.Poor graphics card for the price. No usb 3.0?

    • "Poor graphics card for the price"

Well if you have a better deal out there why not put it up? As I've personally seen that card is in the high-mid tier category, which the price dictates it to be. If you're comparing it to a desktop graphics card you will know that it will never get to that performance.

Pretty tired of people saying "oh that's a terrible laptop" or "that's such a good laptop" without any proof or actual knowledge of laptops ;D

+1 for onlinecomputer & this ACER is a better machine for the same money

          • +3

@ozdavo: That's an ASUS, and the envy weighs 1/2 kg less, there's different trade-offs ;)

        • Is that supposed to be an example of a better graphics card for the price?

      • Pretty sure this is one of the first generation Envy 15 models, and if so, has big heating issues/fundamental design problem - why put the GPU right below the palm rest? See youtube reviews.

Second generation Envy 15 got released in overseas markets (but not Australia…yet?) which included a faster GPU (ATI HD 58XX series). See here http://www.notebookforums.com/showpost.php?s=be076595904ed28…

Note Envy 15 models are not currently sold on the HP Australia website (which currently has Envy 14 and 17). Though for some reason Envy 15 can be bought at Officeworks and DSE (old stock?)

Pricewise, this Envy 15 is fair, so long as you're aware of the heating issue. But for comparison, I got an Envy 14 (ATI HD 5650 gpu) just under a month ago from JB for $1500 (GPU placement no longer under palm rest, and no heating issues on 14 or 17 anymore).

Did anyone notice the first pic used by Wireless1 of the laptop (heating vents at the front of the laptop - correct pic) is different to the other two pics (no heating vents). lol.

        • Damn I'd be interested in those new mobile 58XX's ;D. Too bad I bought a Samsung recently when they were around 1k..

  • Reviews are not great…but a good price nonetheless.

  • Good price, but nowhere near a 900 dollar saving.

    • That one has 8GB too.

  • For anyone wondering the specs (should have been included at the top) here is what I've been able to find.

    • Intel Core i7 720QM
    • 15.6" (1920 x 1080)
    • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 (1GB)
    • 500 GB 7200rpm Seagate
    • Gigabit / 802.11n
    • 3 USB
    • HDMI
    • 4GB (DDR3-1066)
    • Memory Card Reader
    • Lithium-ion Battery
    • Integrated Webcam
    • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

    Dimensions (H x W x D): 26.5 x 380 x 244 mm
    Weight: 2.35 kg

For what it's worth I also agree, the price is alright but hardly a $900 saving.

  • For the price it's pretty good.

It beats most i7 quad core notebooks out there.

  • +1

It's a good price, but the laptop is no good. I had one (first generation) and I got it because it's beefy and i do a lot of 3d/video/graphics work. Long story short, cooked itself even though it was well ventilated. So in summary, if you're buying this laptop because of the grunt, forget about it.

Also, check here. Heaps of customers complaining about bad design killing their laptops, but HP refuse to repair these defects.

Personally i won't be buying another HP laptop for quite some time.

  • For comparison, next cheapest store listed on StaticIce for Envy 15 is $1424.42.

  • If ONLY it was easy to install Mac OS X on these I'd be all over it… but from what I understand people have had a ton of difficulty doing so!

    • If you want to install MAC OSX you need a Intel and Nvidia based notebook :).

  • I am an IT admin for a large company and can comment that HP makes very decent laptop designs, thermal design, ports and layout, this I think is a good example and it's a aluminum, core i7, decent graphics under $
2000. I just paid $2550 for an all plastic Asus G73.

The only thing I'm concerned about is lack of optical from what I understood…still can be nessary
