[NSW] QBE Greenslip - $301 Discount on Standard Price of $903 (Most of Sydney Suburbs) if You Are over 30 with No Demerit Points

123

My wife just renewed her greenslip and QBE offered it to her for $602 which is $301 discount on standard price. This is because she is over 30 and also has no demerit points.

I haven't generally seen any discount on greenslip so if you are over 30 with good driving history, it will be worth checking QBE.

They will ask for Drivers Licence details during sign up and it would be checked in real time with licence issuer authority.

  • Hmmm i renewed with qbe couple of months ago and paid with my commonwealth platinum card, wonder if I can claim the difference or anything like that?

  • +2

My QBE is $248 for 6 months which equates to $496 per year

I wish I could get this price!

    • List of Green slip prices Including MCIS levy & GST
      Insurer 12-Month Price
      AAMI $633.49
      Allianz $782.00
      CIC-Allianz $908.00
      GIO $624.30
      NRMA $616.40
      QBE $602.08

Not much cheaper than the next three lowest for me, and loyalty discounts on comprehensive/house policy would give me better value…

      • For some reasons QBE is the lowest for me
        AAMI $908.00
        Allianz $782.00
        CIC-Allianz $905.00
        GIO $903.83
        NRMA $907.77
        QBE $602.08 m

        • Some of those differences are insane!

        • Are you under 30 or have some demerit points or don't have >60% NCB? Because Green slips pricing is based on risk of accident factors and nothing more.

Over 30, no demerits, 65% NCB

          Insurer 12-month Price
          AAMI $605.50
          Allianz $611.00
          CIC-Allianz $663.00
          GIO $603.71
          NRMA $594.37
          QBE $602.08

I changed the postcode to Blacktown NSW (apparently the car theft hot spot) and didn't change prices.

If I revert back to my normal postcode and say I don't have any car insurance, my prices go thru the roof - up for AAMI, GIO, NRMA
          AAMI $908.00
          Allianz $611.00
          CIC-Allianz $663.00
          GIO $903.83
          NRMA $907.77
          QBE $602.08

Then tell them I got 1 demerit point… even more $$$ for QBE, Allianz
          AAMI $908.00
          Allianz $796.00
          CIC-Allianz $837.00
          GIO $903.83
          NRMA $907.77
          QBE $903.19

If I tell them I have comprehensive with 65% NCB but 1 demerit point. NRMA doesn't seem to care on my original quote. Only Allianz & QBE care about points.

          AAMI $605.50
          Allianz $796.00
          CIC-Allianz $837.00
          GIO $603.71
          NRMA $594.37
          QBE $903.19

Car crash/safety rating comes into it, but I really don't want waste time inputting different cars with the scenarios above.

      • Gotta take those quotes with a grain of salt.
Sometimes the prices will jump up when you go through the quote process on their website.
Has happened to me with NRMA and GIO and a few occasions.

  • QBE always had this discount, I used to work for them 5 years ago in the sales department and customers would always be surprised the quote was much more cheaper by $300+.

    What's a greenslip?

    • +8

      Free money for insurance companies.

      • -1

Well Bob, you would know we don't have them in Victoria.

        • +1

          Yes you do.
          aka CTP, aka TAC

        • @SuiCid3: CTP ain't no $900 p.a., or $600 either.

    • +2

Classic example of privatisation leading to price rises.

It's the Compulsory Third Party Insurance component for vehicle registration in NSW.

      • Price decreases on the horizon. Short term decrease no doubt.

      • Classic example of privatisation leading to price rises.

Not just that, also the Accident and Emergency Care Levy which is about 25% or so and goes to the state government.

Absolute rip-off and I have no idea why they need a levy when you're already paying for insurance, that's what the insurance is for, medical care.

Discount on standard price? How do you know it is a discount and not their normal price?

  • +3

afaik, there isn't a "standard price" o greenslip or for any insurance… thats the whole point !
from silvertone's post above, this doesn't seem like a discount. More like comparable to the rest within a few dollars.

$300 quite a big different but probably the above link show the reason?
Big different between silvertone and ntb…

  • I think, it's not a deal but a bullsh#t. They just raise their price and say that that's their "standard" price and then give you a "discount" which brings the price to market level.
Also, one needs to keep in mind that the Green Slip prices will be going down.
"The refund will apply to the owner of the vehicle as at midnight 30 November and will be calculated on a pro-rata basis. That is, the closer you purchase a policy to 1 December, the greater your refund will be."

    • Except for 🏍, though at fault cover probably makes that justified.

  • mine is $402.89 with NRMA in NSW

    • Not Sydney Metro though.

      • when u live in few places, you can choose to have different benefits :), like for roadside assistance, you're better with RACQ (QLD), or better Regos (QLD), but then for work related, NSW has more pros than cons when compared with other states. honestly I prefer to live at fringes where I still can access to facilities without borthered by noise and people and traffic, lifestyle choice :)

  • Allianz used to do this as well , when the renewal came it had on it if you have Zero points call us and the price will be $xxx

  • The new green slip reform comes in to place in NSW on Dec 1st. It will reduce premiums by an average of $100 across all insurers because their margin will be capped at 15%. For those in Sydney it will come down by more like $150. A lot of the premiums we pay in this state are due to fraud (particularly in south Sydney) so hopefully they will continue to reduce as more is done about it.

  • Check what the at fault driver cover is. I had the cheapest price greenslip had no cover then for $10 more it gave a lot of driver protection.

  • Nine hundred bucks for a green slip??!? Holy crap, I've never paid more than 450.

  • Mine is $596 with NRMA. Under 30.

  • From what I understand the price of green skip not only affected by the age and demerit point of the driver but also the age and the type of car.

Paid for 2 cars' green slip this year, both with same insurance company. They are 6 yrs apart. The older car cost a lot more.

    • Iirc its a 10 year thing , once over 10 years it goes up

Saw the same with a motorcycl , exactly same bike sold for 20 years , the olde one was a lot moreexpensive than the newer one , they tried to tell me the newer bike was safer lmao

  • Since OP hasn't provides any evidence how they arrived at the discount mentioned in title, and the fact that insurance quotes are personalised, I'm negging this deal.
Sorry OP, but this not a bargain. What may work for you may not work for me.
Best thing to do is jump on the comparison website and go with the cheapest one. !

  • Also the government will be providing partial refunds for green slips as a new scheme starts 1 Dec -

    https://www.sira.nsw.gov.au/green-slips/ctp-green-slip-refor…

    https://www.sira.nsw.gov.au/green-slips/ctp-green-slip-refor…

    • -1

      IF the new scheme start
      cough - ESL

  • No bargain- Standard price based on the information. - prices are regulated and insurers generally rate refill 2-3 times per year.
