Now I can sit on my lazy ass and wait for my meals…..The hard part is to decide what to eat now

Now I can sit on my lazy ass

      You have a donkey?

    • ASSume he failed his English at school or he spends too much time watching Kardashian's fat arse on Netflix.

      • If that's the case, his user name checks out :)

  • Minimum spend?

    • Fairly sure there is no minimum spend applicable.

      • Nice

        • +2

It's $25 for delivery at every restaurant I tried.

    • No minimum spend however if your order is less than $17 (I think it varies from restaurant to restaurant) you pay $4 surcharge.

So instead of paying $9 initially ($4 + $5), you only pay $4 as surcharge.

    • -1

definitely a minimum spend. Just tried ordering from Guzman Y Gomez for $15.70 and they tried charging a 'Surcharge' which of course is a delivery fee.

  • +1

are the food price the same as the prices at the original restaurant , or different? (assume to cover commission paid to deliveroo)

    • Same prices. Its in the contracts that they can't charge less in store. Deliveroo / uber / foodora take a cut from the restaurant in exchange for the extra customers they bring in, taking the orders, accounting etc. They take care of everything except food prep.

      • +1

Didn't seem to apply for ubereats.
I had a burger + chips from brooklyn burger in Surry hills. Prices were ~ $4 more expensive for the fuggedaboutit (however you spell it) burger than in store or on their website..

        • Same on deliveroo.

        • +1

You can report places that do that to the various apps they are listed on but most of the time you will find they are slightly different items.

For example the burger may cost $4 more but it could be a different (or even the same) name and they added something to it. Loopholes they use to compensate the 22.5% UberEats charge. No idea on what the rest charge.

        • +1

          @PavlouH:

22.5% please find this rate for me. Here they wanted 35%. 30 for deliveroo.

        • +12

Brooklyn Depot in Melbourne do this too…

          Item Dine In1 Take Out2 Deliveroo3 Foodora4 UberEats5
          Depot Burger $16 $16 $20 $20 $20
          Fuhgeddaboudit! $15 $16 $19.50 $19.50 $19.50
          Skinny Fries $8 $8 $10 $10 $10
          Phat Chips $8 $8 $10 $10 $10

          Makes me sad :(

@dane: Why in gods name would anyone pay $8 for chips?

        • @PavlouH:
We have just started ubereats at where I work. New signups are 30% and $700 for the machine. Others are 20% and supply machine and printers

      • It is not really clear cut like this. Sure they can't charge less in store but the menu on deliveroo is a little different to the one in store. There are thing like combo or special offer that are available instore but not on deliveroo.

For example if you want a meal combo with side and a drink it might be $16 instore but the meal combo option is not available on deliveroo, you have to pay $12 for the main, another $4 for the side and another $4 for the drink that make it $20.

The price is the same instore if you buy main, side and drink as single items but who wouldnt buy it as a combo when it is cheaper that way.

        • Damn i shoulda checked my facts! I was going off chats with several restaurant owners who complained about all 3 delivery companies forcing them to charge identical prices and cough up around 30% of every dollar that came in through those apps.

    • We encourage our restaurants to always use the same pricing for delivery as they do for their in-house menu, although there may be exceptions. If you have any questions about menu pricing, please contact the restaurant directly.

not sure when they started this, but looks like they are. don't remember them doing this in the past eg. $14 for nachos @ guzman, $12.50 at the store.

    • Yeah, a couple of asian restaurants drive up their prices on these delivery apps to cater for those percentage cuts (in creative ways of course)

    Not really Australia Wide:

    Sorry, we don’t deliver there
But we’re expanding fast! To vote for your area, enter your email address.

    • Same, don't do my area.

      • Same here Katoomba 2780 NSW. Only menulog, eatnow and domino's in my area. Coles is like $4 if you plan it in advance.

        • -1

Why do you have Sydney as your location?

        • @Scab: nostalgic memories haha lol

    • SA looks to be CBD only :(

  • Just fyi t&cs in the email i received this morning: *Customers in Sydney + Melbourne will receive a 1-time-use voucher code, open to new and existing customers.

    • What did you order, chicken drumsticks?

  • All it did was add 5 dollars to my account. Anyone else get the same thing

    • +8

      Delivery is usually $5…

      5 - 5 = 0

    • how to check you have $ in the account?

      • you'll know if you have it

        • +1

I hope you don't mind but I'm getting this as a script neck tattoo in cursive font.

        • @Scab: Don't forget to apply antibacterial ointment twice a day to the tattooed area to reduces Scabs and not reduce marks on your skin.

  • +1

Sorry, we don’t deliver there! Not sure how that equals to nationwide?

  • Nationwide = all areas in the country that Deliveroo services.

If you didn't have Deliveroo in your area this doesn't apply - they won't suddenly deliver to Uluru AND give you free delivery..

  • +1

Is there a map or can you only type in your address to see if they deliver? UberEats has a map which is handy, I've been slowly watching it expand out from the CBD and can now get delivery from them which I couldn't 3 months back.

  • One time use or unlimited use?

    • One time use in Sydney Melbourne, more than once else where (where service exists)

      • Brisbane here. Could only use the code once.

  • +2

Sorry, we don’t deliver there ….. so not a deal for me.

  • +1

Great service, if you like your food delivered 45-60 minutes late and cold.

That said, if you have a legitimate complaint and get in touch, they will reimburse you to some level, be it a redelivery, refund or voucher off of your next purchase.

I don't know who determines how many meals your Deliveroo driver delivers at once - I think it may be up to the driver to accept jobs, because I find that they often take illogical detours on route to your place to drop off other meals. For example, last night I had a driver get within 3 minutes of my place, then swing around to the nearby main road and head 15 minutes away - with the return trip that equated to an extra 30 minutes to the delivery time.

Free, cold burgers … terrible driver, but good service from Deliveroo to acknowledge and reimburse.

    • I've found the same thing, you can watch the drivers act find new and interesting ways to make your food arrive late and cold.

    • Yep, been there done that. Drivers are pretty horrible.

One time my order got "cancelled" without me knowing.

The other time I watched the driver take an interesting new route from the restaurant,
got on the highway, missed my highway exit and turned a 2km trip into 12km.

Needless to say my food was cold.

Plus he complained that the app gave him the wrong address, what a load of bs.

    • Perhaps your delivery driver drives for Uber as well and detoured for a quick pickup and drop off.

      • that could be it, but I was kind of waiting for the driver to miss the second exit as well so he can put another 10km onto his trip.
(because my food would be cold regardless at that time)

        • Bummer, I would have had sour grapes after that experience and would have to have a good drop of wine to calm myself down.

        • +1

          @malouphix:

well, that was supposedly the free make up meal for the first cancelled order, and I didn't bother to say anything else.

not complaining when it's free haha

I'm calling bullshit on nationwide delivery. They don't ever deliver to my suburb in Melbourne metro area. I use eatnow and menulog.

    • Well using that logic nobody offers natiowide delivery, not even Australia Post.

      • I don't know what you are talking about. Auspost don't deliver nationally? Since when? And why on earth would I get negged for pointing out that deliveroo don't even deliver to the burbs? I've fallen into a parallel dimension.

        • There are plenty of places that Australia Post won't deliver to, so not nationwide is it?

Places that are in the middle of nowhere etc.

I'm just pointing out that nationwide doesn't mean what you think it means in this context.

        • @samfisher5986: Yeh, well, suburban Melbourne isn't the middle of nowhere, is it? And if true that Auspost doesn't deliver everywhere then I've learned something today, especially as their web site says "Australia Post is required, by law, to provide a universal mail service that is accessible to all Australians".

I think you might be mistaken Sam.

        • @Gershom:

Accessible is not the same as delivers to the doorstep.

        • @samfisher5986: "It also has to provide a standard letter service for a basic postal rate from here to there, anywhere within Australia"

          http://auspost.com.au/education/ourpost/students/our-post/fa…

          Just admit it for Chrissake.

        • @Gershom:

          Admit what?

Australia post won't deliver to your door anywhere in Australia. That was my point, its not nationwide door coverage.

          And the point of that?

Business's all over Australia use nationwide when its not actually nationwide.

  • +2

    Their email is so misleading…
"we're offering FREE DELIVERY NATIONWIDE* until September 30th"
fine print "one time use", therefore if I use today it is "until September 11th"

Foodora delivery is free for most stores until mid-September. I will stick with Foodora, as they have rewarded me randomly $10 miss you vouchers twice over last couple months.

edit: i think this deal should have one-time use added to heading.

    • I did consider changing the title, but the one time use is only for Sydney and Melbourne. Other cities get it more than once.

  • Does anyone know any 'restaurants' that sell HSP's in Melbourne? Can't ever seem to find them on Deliveroo/Ubereats/Menulog/Foodora

    • +2

Viva Kebabs are on Uber Eats ($14 with a can of soft drink).

Foodora has PersianGrill for $18 although the only time I bought a HSP from them they didn't include cheese so I haven't gone back.

My favourite HSP vendor, CBD Kebabs, isn't listed on any yet.

      • Thanks heaps!

  • +1

I think this is only mediocre. Unlike back in the Delivery Hero days when you could get meals for free.

  • I wonder how much the delivery person makes per trip? Just say you spend 20.. Surely you have to pay the delivery guy $5 and how much would Deliveroo get after?.. Something doesn't add up.

    • I believe deliveroo takes 22.5% of the meal cost.
