Hard to believe any IT firm would hire you based on these certificates. People with 457s are taking over the industry in Australia, leaving no chance for us aussies. They are good to brush up your skills however.

    • Maybe not but they might be the difference between getting and not getting the job if you already have other basics.

    • +3

Yes, because offering the 457 visa they can dump the Salary about 30K below what they would have to pay to Australians.

      • Exactly right, and they don't care how much they earn as long as they land the job.

I left the industry because of this. IT isn't the same anymore. Lots of work outsourced too.

I'm curious: What did you move to?

        • Opening a Thai restaurant. I'll try to run a promotion for the ozbargain folks.

      • I'm interested too.

    • Its also more that these certificates are seen as kind worthless anyway…

It would look great on a 18 year olds resume looking to get an entry level job but he can probably get one without it anyway.

Weird, I would have expected programming to be the one that people do care about as you have to show competency somehow.

  • So whcih one for best salary?

    • +1

The easiest thing to do is to research many job offerings in the area you think appeals to you & for which you'll do best. Then, have a look at the requirements. You'll quickly figure out the common ones they all seem to look for. Networking seems to be a growing field.

But does this include the exams? I am guessing not, as it is the exams that are the expensive part.

If not, there is probably nothing here that you can't find in eBooks or free elsewhere online.

edit: "Certification of completion not included"

…so in other words, budget an additional $100-300 for each certification that you want.
