  • Anyone got any experience with the Yeelight Smart Strip?

    • +2

i have one and had to admit the color is bit weird or maybe it had something to do with it being positioned under a kitchen cabinet for extra lighting.

i combined them with a motion sensor, so it will light up a kitchen when there's presence

      https://i.imgur.com/6Y4RuYS.jpg

I also wished that it is much brighter

      • +2

        the color is bit weird

surely you know you can change that?

        • Haha of course!

      • +1

        Which sensor?

        • Did you use the Xiaomi sensor and hub, or a stand alone movement sensor?

        • Right now i am using zwave aeotec multisensor, but xiaomi $12 motion sensor will do it too.

        • +1

@newdad: i use homeassistant.io with xiaomi hub intergrated. So i can use different sensor like zwave multisensor 6 to trigger the xiaomi led strip.

      • +5

For some reason that photo feels like a scene out of a SciFi movie

      • I agree, I have one of these and it would have been nicer if the maximum brightness would have been brighter.

      • Do you have an idea of what the cut distance is by any chance?

        • And can anyone also answer: if I kill the power at the power point while the lights are on, when I turn the power back on at the power point do I still need to use the button on the device too in order to turn the lights back on?

        • @boopaloop: yes you need to.

        • What cut distance? Between each led?

        • @ulun-lpg: there are places on all LED strips where it is safe to cut. These places are usually marked on the strip. Was curious what the distance between each of these markers was but it doesn't matter now anyway :) thanks for your time!

Someone was chasing a deal on
    https://www.gearbest.com/other-home-improvement/pp_649255.ht…?

One smart light strip for me. Thank you

  • Any chance for the Convoy S2+ 365nm Nichia UV Waterproof LED Flashlight to go on special?

  • What's the difference between the round temperature & humidity sensor and the square one?

    • +3

the round one is the first gen, the square is second gen. The square one is able to measure air pressure.

      • First time I'm looking into that and can't find much information about it. That sensor is Zigbee? How do you connect to it, with one of these?
        https://www.gearbest.com/living-appliances/pp_344667.html
        https://www.gearbest.com/alarm-systems/pp_345588.html

Except the price I can't see what the difference is, weird!

And website you recommend to read up on this topic?

        • That's what I'm using. I've got a humidity sensor in each room connected to an old laptop running home assistant. We've had mould problems, so if the humidity creeps up in an affected room it turns on the dehumidufiers. I can also check the temperature in bub's room remotely and adjust the settings without going in and risking waking her.

        • @newdad: Sounds great, thanks. The Home Gateway they have in stock goes for US$24, so about AUD 30. Good price in your opinion? I can't find any previous bargains on that one to compare prices. But it is a lot cheaper than Banggood and Amazon.

        • yes, they communicate via zigbee. You will need to buy the gateway. This connects all the sensors together, (temp sensor, human sensor, door sensor etc). Price for the gateway looks good. You can view them all in the MI app, also has automation setup. The app has really improved over the last few months and frequent updates.

I use mine integrated into Home Assistant, works pretty well so far.

No Yeelight colour bulb this time? I need a few more…

  • Nearly bought note 3 but suspended after a second thought. Still want Mix2 much much much more…

    • +13

      Thanks for letting us know.

      • +2

I'm going to print it out so I don't forget.

    • I believe Note 3 is made for China and doesn't support all the international bands?

      • All phones are made in China but you are right about this one not supporting all oz bands.

Mix 2 supports the whole world though.

        • The mix 2 seems like 1 step forward 2 steps back.
The bezel is bigger, no headphone jack, and way smaller battery.

        • our friend bob said "made for" not "made in".

  • +1

That's a great price on the Xiaomi Drone, Highly recommend.
They're easy to use and good quality tech for the money. Still can't do follow me though.

  • Hey OP, I've been wanting to get a Xiaomi USB Light (Enhanced Version) but I haven't seen any deals lately (missed out on the last one).

Any chance you'd be having a sale on that anytime soon? I have a crappy Thinkpad without a backlight and it's driving me insane because I can't see the keyboard lol

      Story of my life.

  • Is it possible to use this stuff as a thermostat to power on a device?

    • I think this might be what I'm after https://m.gearbest.com/living-appliances/pp_416094.html

      • I hope you have the zigbee hub or you're gonna have a bad time

        • No idea what that is!

        • @ryangus: you're gonna have a bad time then

        • @taylorn8r:Care to elaborate?

        • +2

          @ryangus:
          This should provide some guidance.

        • @kahn: LOL, I understand the meme, just not the ZigBee reference

      • Check carefully. I recall reading somewhere that the socket isn't what it looks like, but takes a bigger plug than standard AU/China sockets because air conditioners usually require heavy duty high current wiring. You need a zigbee hub and the standard zigbee socket switch.

        • Thanks for the helpful reply. Any recommendations on both hub and switch?

        • +1

@ryangus: I am fairly sure (but not absolutely certain) that the switch that you need is this one: https://www.gearbest.com/living-appliances/pp_344666.html? However, as I don't have it, I can't be absolutely certain. Hopefully someone else can confirm for us. I've just found a use case where I want to try one, so I am about to order one and hoping for the best, but aren't expecting it to arrive until November.

There seems to be at least two different versions of the hub, but I struggle to tell the difference. I bought one that was labelled 'version 2' from another seller, but paid significantly more than gearbest prices. From what I can tell, one differentiating factor is whether they have the new or old mijia logo, but I after reading the reviews, it seems that you can't always rely on getting the same as the photos and sometimes sellers have the same stock photo for two different listings at different prices. Once again, hopefully someone else can confirm for us?

  • Thanks OP.

Dived in for the light strip.

What are people using this for??? lol

    • Put it around your monitor and turn it on when you're on Ozbargain.

      • +1

        Would never go off

    • +2

I use it when it's dark, so I can see.

    • Me 2 want to know what the use of it? Smart Christmas Decoration?

    • Honestly, I also dont know. Having said that, I also bought. I might try to put it behind the entertainment unit as a backlight.

  • mi drone code doesnt appear to work.

"Code for single unit price only; VIP Price, Special Offer or Group Deal all exempt."

    • I just tried it then and it's still working, it says " This Code does not exist. Please check again.

Code for single unit price only; VIP Price, Special Offer or Group Deal all exempt."

But the total has changed to the discounted amount.

      • i see what my issue is. i chose CN plug which is similar to aus plug but it doesnt work on that

edit: now im trying to finally purchase and it's saying $540 aud argh

  • What is the difference between Aqara and standard temperature sensor?

    • one is square the other round. Most aqara devices have the squarish look versus the std mijia roundish look.

      • haha. Right! Do you know if there are any software differences as well?

        • From previous posts the aqara also does pressure. My current mijia roundish version does not. So just bought one of this as well.

can we get another code that hasnt expired?

  • Does anyone own the Meizu HD50s? How are they?

  • My first ‘yeelights’ Arrived the other day. Super unimpressed. :(

    • That's not good for a lot of people. What do you not like about it?

    • Care to do a quick review why you're unimpressed?

      • So I got super excited as I’d been looking into hue bulbs and thought this was a steal. The lights are very slow and unresponsive, often disconnect etc. the light they give out is just a bit underwhelming, especially the white which is a horrible light similar to the ‘torch’ function on your phone, there is no warmth to it at all. Sadly I ordered two yeelights and have a led strip on the way (tried to cancel but couldn’t) I’m sure people all over ozbargain are going to use them once then never bother again. If anyone wants my 2 for $30 in the Melbourne CBD area let me know :)
