  • Yeah this is a cracker deal - a few of us were discussing it in the DWI thread v the merits of the V20. Have a look here if interested: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/329576

I ended up buying a G6 from MobileCiti yesterday, about 2pm or so - and it was shipped out that day at 4pm. Great service!

    • Good phone the only problem is I want blue … :p

      • +1

        plastidip mate.

      • Yeah I wanted blue too! But the black is second choice I think :)

        • We may not have blue local stock here I reckon.

      • Why does there ebay page say 12 month warranty if its Au stock ? is it a scam or legit Au stock ? such conflicting information.
        http://stores.ebay.com.au/Mobileciti-eStore/warranty

idk why this stupid site thinks i am associated with Mobileciti

          Hi Whatdoidoooo

Sorry, warranty information updated, I can confirm that all current model of LG comes with 24 months warranty.

    • I'm about to warranty my V20. So sick of the shit battery life. With mild use (music on the train, a bit of Instagram and Reddit, 67% brightness) my battery is down to 62% as of right now and I only unplugged it from the charger 3 hours ago. Gonna pick up a G6 instead.

      • +1

Mine is pretty awful too. Similar usage to you.

        • This is literally my 3rd one too. F*** the V20.

        • @potplanty:

          Yeap v20 SUCCCCKKKS

      • How long have you had it for? Mine's sitting at 82% right now with similar usage. It's about 2 months old though.

        • same here, battery life on v20 seems ok, so far. But could've saved $50 with this deal tho… Still, the camera both in low-light and daylight is great with the google camera hdr+ app, the audio-out very good too. Only the size still takes getting used to, after using redmi note 3pro (oh, and that amazing battery life of the redmi can't be beat)

        • @mtrkr:

My V20 battery is certainly not as good as it was at the start but no cause for complaint yet. A few months in I still get through the day on mild use.

For battery on the go just get a cheap Xiaomi PowerBank as mentioned elsewhere. I'd agree the battery is a possible weak link. $20 fixes that. Much less hassle!

      • But I guess you have another battery?

        • +1

You need Gearbest Xiaomi PowerBank …… :p

          ozbargainers always have a few.

      • There may be an APP that drains your battery. For my G5 it was the flashlight APP.

Start from scratch and install few Apps first to see if you can identify the rogue APP.

      • It's because you've sent your brighness to an odd number.
        Set it to 68 instead.

        • But 67 is a much more attractive number!

        • +2

          @sharky_k:
Swith it to 69..it might start self charging

    • Hi mate. I'm thinking of getting this phone, but I need MirrorLink to use in my car. Can you please check your G6 and confirm if the MirrorLink option is available under Settings > Networks > Share & connect > MirrorLink?

      • +1

I dont see it in my settings.

        • Cheers mate. I guess I will have to get an S8 then!

    • Doesn't this phone have bootloop issue like its elder brother G4? G4 sucked big time.

  • Because it is LG for those worry about warranty and this is Australia Stock.

    What?

    • +1

Probably referring to issues people may run into with bootlooping etc. so easy warranty process to fix it.

    • +1

I know no bootloop issue yet but still some worry.

      • I've heard of bootloops with it but only from faulty carrier updates which is a non-issue.

        • Think OP is more so referring to LG and their dreaded bootloop issues in the past (Nexus etc)

        • @Rocket6:

Probably! Loved both of mine, but they both had to be sent back under warranty.

Both would randomly turn off at times and restart until one day both just got stuck looping.

Got the 5x repaired and recently sold it to my mum, as it was restarting again..

I was fair and sold it under the premise that I'd get it fixed for her if it broke..

Never again LG.. Don't even know what my go to phone is (Running a ZTE Axon 7 right now)

  • Im not sure if its worth waiting to see one of the grey deals and pay around $200 less…

    • +2

Yeah that's what I was thinking… can get about $475. But it's an incredible price for AU stock with 2 years warranty, very quick delivery, ability to salary package / claim tax back etc. For me all that was worth it. Particularly the warranty!

      • +2

Good point, this one I can get 10% GST back.

Except GST I think we can still get salary tax back even bought from overseas, right?

      • I just checked mobicitie's website and it says 12 month lg warranty under there warranty page http://stores.ebay.com.au/Mobileciti-eStore/warranty

just really scared of the bootloop and the other lg problems

        • warranty info updated, confirmed LG Mobile phone(current model) comes with 24 months warranty.

    • Good price but hard to justify paying almost the same as a (grey import) S8 through a reputable seller.

  • how come Australia Stock cost about 20% - 30% more?

    • compare the rent for an Australian worker with the rent for someone working for a grey importer. then compare most of the other living expenses. Straya has some of the most expensive electricity and gas prices now in the world. Check out ommerical property rent for importers and LG itself in Australia versus most other countries in Asia.

Basically straya is a hgih cost low quality economy that can't get eenough of renovation porn during their night time tv viewing.

      • Expect that mobile phones are wholly imported. Only added cost is distribution (minimal) and local service (palmed off to cheap 3rd party repairers)

      • All these cheap deals are coming from Hong Kong and occasionally Singapore, which incidentally top the list for the highest cost of living index in the world at number 2 and 1 respectively. Sydney and Melbourne are at 14 and 15.

        • In Singapore the majoirty of people live in HDB apartments. Freehold houisng is extremely expensive but is roughy 10% of the market.

HK is expensive, but the majority of those working for the grey importers are going to be living out in the new territories or still with their parents.

The minimum wage in HK is < $5, and singapore has no minimum wage as proscribed by the MOM.

Expensive land and energy in straya makes everything else expensive as well

        • The other factor is that the retail pricing of phones are usually based on a different exchange rate. Especially now, the Aussie dollar is at 80c.. the highest it's been for a long time. Local retail prices of gear is probably set for 73c or so… whilst if you import from overseas, you see the effect of changing currency rates immediately.

          Then there's the 10% GST of course…

  • Bought an SE yesterday and then saw this in the related deal thread. Cancelled the SE and used my wife's ebay to buy this (one use only coupon). Awesome deal and been waiting for months for local stock deal! Best one so far of the year by far, if you want to avoid grey import.

Should have shared it at the time!

    • Cancelled the SE and used my wife's ebay to buy this (one use only coupon)

Did you request the cancel and they did it? if so, you can use the voucher again.

  • +3

People upvoting this need to get their head checked. You are paying 30% more for so called local stock. I bought mine from HK seller last time and its working flawlessly.

    • +3

If yours fails you need to send it back to HK for repair, the seller can have it repaired in any dodgy place they like and you'll have little recourse if you're unhappy with the result.

A local warranty means you can contact LG Australia if the repair is not to the standard you expect, and you have the advantage of generally knowing who is repairing it and being across the whole process.

    • +3

I've had three phones in my household die over the course of the last year. I was able to get a full refund on my out of warranty Nexus 6P thanks to ACL - good luck getting anything out of a grey importer.

Two Nexus 5X's died, and whilst they were grey import, they were with Kogan and still under warranty. Kogan were very good to deal with and promptly issued refunds - however you pay a premium above what the cheaper grey importers charge. I would hate to have to deal with protracted warranty procedures with a less reliable grey importer.

So yeah, what you might consider madness, I would consider sanity given the experiences that I've had.

    • Its the premium you pay for local(ish) support. Makes warranty a LOT easier to deal with.

    • It was good until you encounter the LG G4. I used to think like you but now have changed my mind. Buying local is a peace of mind plus you are supporting local business and economy

    • +2

Am I the only person who thinks warranties are overrated?

I've had maybe 15 phones/smartphones/tablets over the past 20 years and I've almost never have had major issues. The worst issues I've had were a sticky home button on an iPhone 4 and an intermittent flickering screen on an HP TouchPad, the latter being bought for US$99 during the infamous firesale years back. Other than that I've been problem free.

The money I've saved over the years from grey importing and not buying extended warranties more than covers the replacement cost for any device I buy.

    • ever heard of bootloop ?

  • +1

great phone, most underrate phone of 2017!
used it for 4 months now, had nothing but good things to say about it.

  • +1

    According to this review.
The Asian model of the LG G6 has a better DAC.
If this is true, I will wait for a grey import deal.

    https://www.whathifi.com/lg/g6/review

  • Previous LG G-series phones support Mirrorlink (this is not same as MiraCast). Does anyone have this model and can confirm if the MirrorLink option is available under Settings > Networks > Share & connect > MirrorLink?

    • +1

      Its only MiraCast.

      • Thanks mate.

  • +1

For those who may be interested, this phone/model does not support VoLTE at least with Telstra post paid that I'm using now.

  • A great price! A dealbreaker for me is that it lacks wireless charging, while the U.S. model has it.

    • +1

For $42 less after discount from t-dimension (grey import) you can get the Plus model which has wireless charging, 128Gb, and the B&O headphones. Decisions decisions…

      • Are you sure grey importer will includes the earphone?

        • +1

Good question, I would assume it's part of the retail box? Query sent..

        • t-dimension got back to me, B&O are a no go: they're not included. Also to expect that the retail box will be unsealed. Strange as I never have heard of an LG G6 Plus Lite model that didn't include the B&O earphones…

    • The US model has wireless charging, but it's only 32GB, doesn't have the quadDAC and doesn't come with the (surprisingly decent) earbuds.

  • +3

I will wait for the LG V30 AMOLED screen.

    • v30 or google pixel 2 … still waiting ..

      • +1

The V30 will definitely cheaper. Not sure of the Pixel 2 spec as yet.

      • Personally the V30 looks amazing to me. I'm sold, just not now at the current prices. I'll wait until LG price cut in 6-9 months time, by then I'll be happy to upgrade from the V20 anyway.

  • Aus stock note 8 for $1100, s8+ for 900 ish or this …

    • Can u provide link for s8+ please?

    • Is the S8+ worth the extra $300 to you ? if so then go for that for better screen and resale ability, otherwise I would go with the G6. If you are into mobile photography then the wide angle camera on the G6 makes it a no brainer.

Also dont forget the Quad DAC on the G6

  • Got a blue G6 from DWI more than a month ago, everything works thankfully and the colour is pretty nice. Camera is definitely not the best but the wide angle lens is cool, I still prefer the quality image produced by my Nexus 6p though.

  • It's worth getting it for the local warranty. I've currently got an LG G5 that I've had for a year and a half. over the last 6 weeks, the auto focus on the primary rear camera started making a grinding noise (similar to when cogs slip) and it would get recorded in videos too. I took it to the LG warranty contractor in Auburn NSW (didn't bother contacting LG first) and they fixed it on the spot in 30 mins (ended up replacing the camera).

Can't imagine doing this with a grey import.

    • From what I learnt for my LG Nexus there is no such warranty contractor in Melbourne. Have to ship it to Sydney in this scenario. Anyone who has been able to get it fixed in Melbourne?

  • A seriously good deal. Much better than all of the recent Pixel deals

  • Is it worth upgrading to this over a nexus 6p? screen is cracked on my 6p and not sure if to repair to just buy a new phone.

    • Same boat (except i have an intact screen). I feel like it's not a big enough jump when there are so many 835s which are getting cheaper and cheaper all the time. I'm inclined to hold out for a few more months myself.

    • This is pretty similar to the Samsung S8 (the phone I now have) and is much better than my old phone (the nexus 6p). The biggest plus is that it's much smaller for the same size screen. Plus the screen quality is much better to.

  • +1

Great phone, I love mine, but I payed $475 3 months ago, To me this is like paying $200 extra at Harvey Norman for Extended warranty.

    • -1

Agreed. Why TF are all the usual Grey importers charging so much for this damn phone right when there's a decent eBay coupon.

  • What am i missing besides this being AU Stock? As the last guy said, its $200 more than what has been previously sold for as grey models.

  • +1

    I. O W N. A. LG G6

I can approve this message that this is great for that price. Cameras are great (install Google pixel HDR cam app) and the phone is fast enough to takecare of your everyday tasks. I bought it for $490 from Dwidigicams few months ago and being an uber driver i had to use multiple apps like maps, music, uber app and messaging apps all day and this phone doesn't slow down at all nor heats up.

You might not need the warranty for a premium because it won't die on you.

    • I have this phone and I agree with you. Can I ask how to install the pixel camera app? Because the camera is the only thing that has been frustrating. Is it just in the play store (I couldn't find it) or is there some other process?

      • +1

Download the apk file from Xdaforum.. Google it :)

  • +3

In the last couple of months I've used the LG G6, HTC U11, Huawei P10 Plus, iPhone 7 and Galaxy S8 pretty extensively (testing new devices for work). The G6 is by far my favourite of the lot. About the only things I wish it had are wireless charging and the S8's screen.

    • Which has the best battery life if you don't mind me asking?

    • How do you rate all these phones (except iPhone) in order of preference, and why?

  • It's a nice phone. I like the thin bezels and the wide angle camera can be useful. I haven't owned this phone, but I had a G5 before so I am familiar with LG. The camera is a bit of a two step Forward one step back move by LG compared with previous generation. Improved the wide angle sensor and focussing is faster, however LG decided to use a cheaper smaller sensors for the camera. I think LG could have the best camera if they used a better sensor, but I guess it's a balancing act trying to keep costs down.

My feelings are after having a phone with a newer chip, I would hate to go back to something with a s820/821 now. Not because of performance, but mainly due to battery life. In my use I find moving from a phone with a Snapdragon 820 has been about double the battery life. I had a G5 and went to an s8+. Given the price you can get the G6 for now, I suppose it's worth the compromises.

  • 45+ but only 10 sold yesterday and today.

So Aussie still prefer cheaper imported stock.

Finally I myself bought the Blue from DWI deal, I really want Blue.
