Hi,

Thanks to OzBargain originally saw the $404 deal a few days ago (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/327720) , was sold out, was going to buy for $449 last night from Target, called multiple stores but was out of stock. Just randomly checked this afternoon and saw it is back in stock and PHONE15 code is working.

Feeling good in contributing here :)

Original eBay deal 15% off on the phones. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/329548

  • Says sold out for me?

    • I just did it and it worked for me:)

  • This is locked to locked to Telstra, is it not?

    • from the other post ($404) I saw this link
      https://unlock.telstra.com/iphoneunlock/main?execution=e1s1

took a risk, it looks it could be unlocked without paying anything.

      • that link does not work for this prepaid phone. I know as i tried it for Iphone i bought from previous deal

    • It is over 2 years old, so can be unlocked free of charge. May even come unlocked.
For more info, see basically any iPhone 6 post in the last few months.

    • To my knowledge, none of the iPhones sold by Telstra are permanently locked. I bought a prepaid 5S from JB unlocked it via the telstra web and it works fine with an iiNet (Optus) sim

    • I had to ring telstra to unlock the phone, free of charge. I bought the phone from the Target ebay in the last deal.

  • thx - but code not working for me…

    • it was one off use, may be you have already used it.

      • haven't bought anything off ebay in a while, so not that…

        • -2

          Don't worry, not worth it.

Upgrade the 6 to a 6S, and the storage from 32GB to 64GB, and now you're talking.
I would say then it would be worth AU$400, no questions.
I mean the iPhone 6 is FOUR generations back, we're now at the Xbox One X iPhone X (#10).

    • +10

Well it depends on what you really want to do. I wouldn't buy a 16gb, but unless you are hard core downloading movies, apps and music 32gb shouldn't be too tight.

    • +10

seriously you can't do shit on a 32gb iphone.. pretty sure my wife had the iphone 6 64gb and it filled up so damn quick.

32gb is plenty unless one is in the habit of loading it full with meaningless entertainment.

      • Well said!

    • +3

you'd be stupid to buy a 32gb iphone these days.

Not if you regularly backup your photos/videos and use streaming service for your music, 32gb is enough for most users.

    • really depends what your on about? how long is your string? what can the iPhone X do?

      • +7

The iPhone X can empty your wallet

        • +3

          lol, a feature they didn't advertise. +1

  • Looking at the specs, only 1GB of RAM.
Is that a problem? Seems very low for a phone at that price level.

32GB is fine, but I'd see that as a minimum for a phone with no SD-slot.

    • +2

For iOS, not bad but not awesome.

I would compare it to a 4gb ram windows machine. Runs fine most of the time, but not all the time.

    • It's usually on par with an Android phone with 2GB.

Apps on iOS are generally much more memory efficient as the OS is aggressive about reclaiming memory. With browser tabs the difference over Android is much less.

Depends on personal preference. I can't imagine using the iPhone SE screen. I haven't used a screen that small in seven years. But the SE has iPhone 6S internals basically.

    • +1

I find with all iPhones it's best to stop updating it after the first few updates. After that they tend to slow down the phone. I'm not sure which version of IOS these phones run. But unless you really need iOS at this price point android tends to give better value for money.

If you're not concerned about brand new buying second hand can also be good from places like eBay. I've personally done that and as long as the seller has a good history you can get some cosmetically decent phones.

  • Darn, was gonna buy a iPhone SE at that price. This seems good

    • +10

the SE has much better internals than the 6

      • +1

        SE has 6S internals

    • +1

Comes down to whether you want bigger screen or better internal specs.

    • +6

I bought an SE… Would still buy an SE :)

      • +1

Whats the Ozb price to expect for an SE?

      • I bought an SE too when it first came out, but this would be handy as a backup phone or a gift for my mum 😁

    • Its the internals that count.

      • For Apple it's the brand that counts.
Internals & externals are better with Android - value for money.

        • Well you have to understand that not all OSs are thw same.
Android these days you would balk at it it had 2gb ram whereas windows 10 and ios could run off half that and still be fine.

Value for money is in android because the chinadroids are actually dtarting to play with the big brands and take away from there market.

        • @Hotkolbas: Android is Universal OS for diverse hardware & scalable to run under Chrome OS natively. Google thinks long-term how to utilise the almost 90% mobile market share.
Traditionally Apple focuses on 5(to 15)% niche market. However, the Chinese 'clones' are becoming creative leaders, and they are using Android. Android is longer-term investment vs iOS fashion.

  • Out of stock

  • Just bought one thanks OP!

  • Anyone confirm if we can get it unlocked?

    • +2

I had to ring telstra to unlock the phone, free of charge. I bought the phone from the Target ebay in the last deal.

      • Was the process easy and straight forward?
My local target is next to Telstra
Not sure whether I should ring or just visit them with the phone

        • +1

yeh , it was ok, they will ask for driver's license detail and the phone's IMEI number for unlock purpose. : )

        • @ozjimjam: Awesome, thanks for confirming this

  • +1

Is this the bend gate version lol? Nice price though

    • +3

Hehe you are a bit slow to the news. Bent-gate is associated with the 6 Plus model 3 years ago, no longer a problem with the Plus models now.

  • Does it include the $30 starter pack as well or just the mobile? i didn't see this information in eBay page

    • yes, i got it from the last deal. confirmed

      • Thanks for confirming this

  • -1

    Grabbed one, thanks!

  • Anyone know if you can get these sooner once purchased, it says pickup on 23rd Sep on the eBay listing?

    • It depends if the store you chose to collect at has stock or not. I just picked mine up 20 minutes ago.

  • Wait for 20% off?

  • 6 is too old, and 32g.

    • +1

but $381 is pretty cheap for an iPhone

      • +2

i'd rather pay $18 more get a se, smaller screen. better spec

    • It does seem so, when there's an 8 and a 10.

  • +1

Sigh if only they had the SE 32GB stocked on Ebay.
    $339 would be a steal.

  • -3

Telstra want $80 to get this piece of shit unlocked. Going straight back for a full refund, (profanity) that.

    • +1

are you returning an open or unopened phone?

      • Unopened, why does it matter?

        • I'm thinking that getting a refund on an opened phone would be difficult. Cos how will staff know the phone or accessories haven't been swapped out?? I mean if thats targets policy then sure otherwise you're coming off as entitled for someone who does the fill/recovery

    • +1

You bought a phone that says it's for Telstra, and now upset you want it for something else.
Target doesn't have to give the money back for change of mind.

      • -1

I work there. It's great when you have the power to make decisions on what gets refunded or not.

        • I guess, unless it's against store policy and you lose your job over it.

Did you open the packaging? If not then prob fine, opened, no way.

        • -4

          @PVA:

          Store policy for staff. lel

Read a few comments up and you'll find your answer.

    • Perhaps it depends on who you ask? It seemed in the previous deal people were able to unlock for free.

    • i rang telstra they unlocked it free of charge.

      • Hey can anyone tell me how you unlocked for free? They asked for $80 to unlock this phone .

        • I thought they would charge me too. They didnt in the end, maybe coz i already have a telstra prepaid account ?

        • @ozjimjam: Yup it depends on the person you are dealing with . Comes down to that .

    • Do you get refund back to PayPal or swip the credit card for in store refund?

  • +1

Was hoping for SE or 6s

  • -1

Would you say this is a much better deal compared to the iPhone SE $250 from last time??

  • +1

Have had the 6 for 3 years and it's still going strong. At no point have I felt like I need to upgrade because of lag, etc.

    • Just curious, what iOS are you running your 6 on??

      • 10.3.3 which I think is the latest?

        • +1

Oh nice! Yes it is! I got a 6s and was originally debating whether or not to update it to 10.3.3, look like now I have my answer… haha

        • @PAXA359:
I had the iPhone 4 for 3 years before my 6 and the 4 didn't hold up well. By my third year, it had slowed down to the point where it was practically unusable. The newer iOS versions killed it.

Can't say the same for my 6 though! Still as zippy as ever.

        • @manbearpig: Yes, new IOS does kills old iPhones. I would say probably a good idea to stop upgrading your iP6 to IOS11, otherwise what happened to your iP4 will happen again on your iP6.

    • Agreed, I'm still using my ip6 plus with iOS 10.3.3

Still no need to replace the phone as its stil responsive. But I'm reluctant to upgrade to ios11 later

Anyway, this 5.5" is too big for me, dropped it few months ago and got a cracked screen. So, I'm considering replace it with SE or 6s, make more financial sense as I'm not chasing latest tech

      • Good idea, I would stop here if I were you too! From my years of experiences of using iPhones, I found they tends to work best within the first 2 or 3 major updates. Anything after that will start to really show slowing down…

        • +1

Yeah, before ip6 plus, I was using ip4… hahaha that phone lasted me 4.5yrs, still going strong but very slow after I upgrade to ios7… when it was on ios6, it runs smoothly and very useable.

So, apple tends to kill older devices with newer IOS and force us to upgrade.

My old trusty ip4 is still working fine now as my second phone, restore it n keep it minimum apps..

        • @DarthLord: hahaha…. exactly what I did with my iP5 after I accidentally upgraded it to IOS9…. Sigh..

        • @PAXA359:

Have you or anyone experienced iPhone 6plus glass replacement by non Apple mobile shop? I went to a small shop n he quoted me $100, sounds reasonable , but I'm worried as such replacement will change both glass + LCD assembly. Hence, most likely it's a 3rd party component…

Phone is still all good except eyesore looking at cracked screen..

          Any suggestions from OZbargain folks?

        • @DarthLord: No… I haven't experienced any non Apple repair service yet. But at that price, I too reckon you won't be getting a genuine Apple LCD installed if it does get replaced. Maybe you can ask if they could just replace the broken glass on its own?

        • +1

          @PAXA359:

Googled that, it seems that replacing glass only is a lot of work.

Therefore, they just want to take out old and swap with a new 3rd party part.. plus I guess they gonna take my original broken screen and refurbished it or so

          Anyway, thanks alot

  • My god I was looking at this just last night! Saw this on the homepage a moment ago, clicked, and its back out of bloody stock again! Or am I just stupid and/or blind?

  • Hey can anyone tell me how they unlocked ? They asked for $80 to unlock this phone .

    • You bought one from this deal?

      • Yup . picked it in the morning .

        • Have u contacted Telstra?

        • @DarthLord: yes, hence the 80 bucks

        • @haidasalami:
Wow, then gotta stay with Telstra for how long to get free unlock?

        • @DarthLord: There is a fee to have your Pre-Paid mobile phone unlocked. - $80 for devices activated for 6 months or less, or never activated; and.
          - $25 for devices activated for more than 6 months up to 2 years.

        • @haidasalami:

So, what u gonna do? Stay with Telstra for a while? Or return it?

Mobileciti eBay selling Se 64gb for $471 after 15% discount

Not bad for this price and higher storage capacity

  • I called Telstra to unlock one today. They asked me for my Telstra number (I am a long term pre-paid Telstra customer) and IMEI number then said it needed to be connected to iTunes. After doing this we activated with non-Telstra sim.
There was no charge for me.

Target just cancelled my order because of insufficient stock. Annoying.
