  • Trying to remember the last WD deal, was it 4TB $130 + shipping?

    • See above, the link is there to the older deal. I can confirm this is just under $139.32 AUD inc shipping.

  • Anyone know if these are SATA on the inside?

      What else could be??

Nope usb straight to mainboard and hardware encryption - hard pass

  • pretty sure it was $103 USD including postage last time

It annoys me that these are called WD Black Portable HDDs, because WD Black drives are something completely different, whereas the word black here just relates to the plastic colour.

  • Can you have an external drive for the games on the PS4? I thought it was just for videos and music.

    • +1

For game storage yes, but if you want to play the game you have to transfer it back to the internal drive.

      • I'm pretty sure you can play ps4 games on an external hard drive. I haven't tried it but from what i read online you can.

        • You might be right; this article was my source for that info and clicking through to his follow up articles he states "After Sony released PS4 System Software 4.5 It’s now possible that an external hard drive is used to install games on it and play them directly from there. This is only possible if you have set up the external hard drive as an Extended Storage."

  • Are these easy to just rip out and put into a normal rig?

    • +1

No, see comments above. Hard soldered usb. Theoretically you could mount it inside and run a cable to a usb header. Go buy a Seagate, sata, with free sata usb converter, and crappy case. Sorted.

    • Negatory

  • The Segate Backup Plus is about the same price, is one better than the other?

    • +1

I nearly went for it, but WD seem to have a better rep lately for reliability.

      • Seagate is smaller form factor and cheaper.

  • I think it expired, shows $118.99 now.

    • Yep shows $118.99 for me as well

  • Expired

  • Yup! Expired.

Damn! Sorry, only spotted it when I'd posted. The Seagate is still $101.49 USD:
Seagate Backup Plus 4TB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0, Black (STDR4000100)

  • Price has dropped back down again.

Tempted to get one for my future Xbox One X purchase.

  • Back on now!

  • +1

    No longer expired!

  • Thanks OP, bought one!

  • All gone again!
