    Just started playing with mine.

Man the sound is so muffled and bassy, it's hard to understand her.

    • you need a new voice recognition algo.. oh wait.

    • agree about the crappy speaker sound. very disappointed.

  • This is the US Version. Are there any downsides oppose to getting the Australia version?

    • Just the plug.
Otherwise works fine. You can set the language to English (Australia) and it works the same.

    • Plug.

    • Mine keeps telling me the weather in Fahrenheit, despite having Celsius selected in the settings; however I have only played with it for an hour or so - not given up yet.

The PSU block is not mid-cord, you will need a bulky plug adapter.

      • When you ask for the temperature ask for it in Celsius.
        Minor inconvenience but it works.

However I just found this like loopylou mentioned it might not work.

        1. Launch the Google Home App.
        2. Tap the Menu icon at the top Left (3 horizontal lines)
        3. Tap "… More settings"
        4. Tap "My Day"
        5. Tap the Gear Icon to the right of Weather.

I noticed mine was set to farenheight

        • Yep I think there are two places to specify the measure and both are set to celsius :(

        • +1

@LoopyLou: FWIW my two google homes happily quote me the weather in celsius with no specific prompting. So its something to do with a setting somewhere on your phone! Good luck.

    • Awesome thanks guys. Definitely worth it then :)

  • In ten years time when the Govt or some company is building a case against you for something, they'll be able to purchase years worth of your private conversations. Life over.

    • It only records/uploads what you say immediately after "ok google"

i know that you are possibly joking, or if you're not, that people often ridicule this line of thought… but really, it is a possibility, and one that people don't consider when they're hooking up a 24/7 voice recorder in their house, no matter how honest the motives of the company representing it, that information could be captured and utilized for someone else's benefit…

    • I play moaning noises next to mine, will i be in trouble?

So they can get the recipe to my signature dish? The btards I'll have their head for that.

    • It's a remote controlled device and records whenever they like.

Sure 99.9% of private stuff is innocuous, boring and irrelevant but it's there. If you're sure of what the future holds for you and you're not interested in privacy then fine take the blue pill, or you can read Wikileaks releases or mountains of stuff from Edward Snowden, other CIA whistle blowers etc.

      • Yep… but you have a mobile phone, smart tv, etc etc. The ship has sailed.

What I do is put my laptop, mobile and google homes in the microwave when I am planning to do some illegal shit.

      • So can any app with media and network permissions, or an owned root, or pretty much any Windows program since that has no permissions system.
And of course the government (mostly USA, but only because they lead tech) has backdoors into a lot of they target you.

  • Sold out

  • The $60-70 Google Home mini is launching soon FYI.

Will do the same job with probably a smaller speaker?
