Jeez, I really need to stop reading ozbargain after buying anything! I thought I got a good price…… This is a great price

Super impressed with Officeworks eBay, jump on this deal - I purchased this last night when it was $329 (less the 18% off), a few hours later it dropped to $299 (less the 18% off) and today Officeworks just sent me a $30 refund via PayPal!!
    Good guys OW!

Great to hear that! Officeworks is up there for one of the best stores for me, every time I go in there the service is top notch.

Exactly. They even looked up a receipt for me on their system when I wanted to return an item but had lost the receipt.

People are often making the comment on here: "Why price match? Just buy it from the cheaper store." I don't purchase at Officeworks just for the cheaper price, but also for customer service and support both pre- and post- sales.

      Good guys OW!

      That's a little confusing.. hahaha

Just curious why do many moto buyers often go for this, when the flagship spec'ed Z series is just ~50 to 100 more? It would be like buying a iPhone 5S or 6 instead of an 8 or X to save a 100 dollars.

    • +4

You could buy 50 to 100 hash browns and host a party with saved money.

    • +1

The non play current z series is usually more than 100 above. Like you might find the original z for close but not the z 2 with local stock and the right antenna bands.

      • Yes, usually. But this is ozbargain. The deals are out there from time to time. The Z flat out kills this G5+. Yes, all Z's even has band 28.

    • @Charity can you tell me which local shop is selling the flagship spec'ed Z series for 50-100 more please? My old phone is dying really hope to find a replacement soon.
      TA

      • Hi, there is many on eBay, some shipping from Aus, but the best deals are from Hong Kong. Sorry, I don't think local bricks and mortar shops can help at the sub $350 price. Use the PHONE15 code which is still active if you do go down the eBay path. Hope that helps a little. I got my Z previously for less than $350 and it is the 64gb Dual Sim 1440p amoled, etc.

Sigh… It's hard to help more when I get negged for saying the truth and trying to help and then comments like "buy hash browns" gets rewarded! lol.

    • moto z play is the competitor to this at about '$100 more ….. in the end got the LG v20 for $360 instead of the Zplay ,

the entry phones are so good and cheap now you can afford to upgrade every year and the G5, z play and LG V20 are all getting android 8 oreo …… what more could you want and all are under $400.

  • Gone :(

    • Still available at the Good Guys link!

Is this ozbargains new phone of choice?

  • I have the moto g4 plus at the moment. Is it worth trading that in and upgrading to this?

    • +1

Of course. This is 1 better.

      • +1

        4 + 1 = 5.

Yeah, i'll probably bite, while the G4 still has trade in value!

        • +1

Where do you trade in a phone?

  • -3

    No compass = No navigation

    • = no it doesn't

    • The compass is different than GPS which is what you actually need for navigation.

  • Good timing! Collecting my order from the TGG in an hour - just sent my OnePlus3 back for repair so this will do me for a few weeks.

    Voucher has expired again. :(

  • Aghhh! I missed the previous deal by an hour (on the same day as missing another tech deal by a minute or two)
and now I've missed this one too, despite someone linking the orginal deal in a repy! Grrrrr!
Please someone link another valid Officeworks/Good Guys/local deal that doesn't expire before i next log in!

  • Recently put Nougat (Android 7.1.2) on my Moto G3 via Lineage OS… Would it be worth upgrading from that to this (the G5 Plus?)

  • Those who already have the G5/G5+…could you share how good is the camera?

    • +1

Good enough for a "phone camera in my view." Unless you want to spend $200 to $1000 more on a phone with better camera, just spend another couple of hundred on a reasonable stand alone dedicated camera that will do a better job in most instances.

I don't like spending hours comparing smartphone cameras and splitting hairs as for me a LG G2 or now my Moto G5+ does a good enough job for a convenient in your pocket handy camera. Everyone has different wants and needs though, so just my 2c worth.

    • +2

It's good for the price, but it's biggest drawback is it doesn't have OIS (optical image stabilisation)

Not comparable to the expensive flagship phones though.

For most people it will be totally acceptable quality, it just won't blow your socks off with it's quality and in low light it will be more difficult to get blur free/noise free shots.

      • Thanks. I am currently using the Lumia 950XL and am pleased with its image quality. I also have a Samsung note 4 which is just as good. OIS aside, would you say the G5+ is better (or worse) than the above 2 phones? thanks

        • +1

I would say fairly similar to those two phones, maybe a little weaker in low light.

Both those phones had great cameras for their time, and the Moto G 5+ as you probably already know punches well above it's weight for a mid range phone as it's equipped with last years Samsung S7 camera sensor.

Also very capable cpu running snappy software as it can record decent video too in 2160p@30fps.

        • @ozhunter68: Thanks buddy.
