Virgin Round The World Business Class Fare - from $4799 (Some Dates June - August 2018) via Escape Travel. Hong Kong/London/LA

180

1 jun - 28 jun 2018 and 17 jul - 16 aug, 2018. The stops are Hong Kong, London and LA. Business class including Lounge access but not limousine to airport. Companion airfare. Price is each for two people travelling

Not as good a deal as the, ahem, trip we are currently in the middle of but thought people might be interested.
Our experience was the dates mentioned weren’t hard and fast as long as you didn’t travel in/out of Australia in school holidays and were prepared to pay a bit more, our tickets cost $3400 each rather than $3100. Think carefully about what you want to do and your dates, we ended up with too much time in Hong Kong and not enough in Paris. Once you are booked the dates are solid.

So far we have done Hong Kong, London to Paris on Eurostar, Paris and currently tootling around Switzerland.
Business class is definitely a step up but you are still in a plane. Lie flat is nice and you do get PJs, you might need to ask for them. The access to the lounges, including on arrival, makes the trip a bit more pleasant. We bounced through London to Paris so we could take a shower and have second breakfast before catching the Eurostar.

  • Geez that's one quick way to land Platinum status.

    • Would you get 800 status points for this?

      • You need 1000 for platinum. 800 to maintain. Wish it was 800, I'd be Platinum.

So is this a deal or a brag?!?!?

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

it is cheaper than sending us a postcard!

It is a bit of both. We discovered the delights of air bnb in Paris and definitely worth looking into; we got an apartment walking distance to the Louvre and Les Halles for three days for less than $200 a night, which is good value. We make good use of the Boulanger and patisserie places and the supermarkets so you can keep the costs down a bit. Thanks for the good wishes,

  • Nice :)

  • Nice price - remember fare only available if two people travelling. Not applicable for single fare

    • Thanks I have updated my description, not enough room in title.

  • How did you score $3400 each?

    • Previous deal through virgin and flight centre earlier this year.

  • I might have missed something - the title advises $4799 pp? Where is the $3100 price in the post coming from?

    • You sure missed about 1/2 of it. Read OP again to the end. :)

      • Yes, I've read to the end…

1st para mentions dates, stops, and confirms it's companion fare.

2nd para mentions that it's not as good a deal as the trip OP is on now (the cheaper $3400/$3100 fare, I assume?), flexibility re dates, to think carefully about stops as they're locked once booked.

3rd para OP gives some helpful advice/feedback re the trip OP is on at the moment.

No mention of where to get the $3400/$3100 fare. Is that from this deal? Another? If it's unrelated to the $4799 then fair enough…

        • The $3100 or $3075 is an Unrelated, previous deal. There are quite a number of them posted. This one in particular https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/307718

        • @Coops1: Excellent, thanks for that info.

        • Sorry if I confused you, there was a deal earlier this year that was cheaper than this one, but the $4700 is still much better than full price business. There is also a pretty good economy price going as well.

        • @try2bhelpful: No worries, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on something! :-)

  • Anything this year?

    • Haven’t seen anything but probably worth talking to flightcentre or escape travel about it.

150K Velocity points would get you similar if you're prepared to fly economy! 300k velocity if you prefer business (you need to move it to Kris Flyer points and take advantage of their $100USD stop over options)

I am looking at Sydney - Singapore - Frankfurt (Euro trip for a month) - New York
Then make own way traveling the US to LA
    LAX - Tokyo - Singapore - Sydney

One good credit card sign up would get you most of the way there!

    • Sounds like a fun trip, enjoy.

    • interesting… i've been looking at just simply doing the ~220k points mel-lax return in business option when we eventually get enough points (just shy of 400k at the moment).
will have to look into the krisflyer conversions :)
