    is this SSD?

  • +5

No, it's a 3.5" desktop drive in a USB enclosure

@$234 for an 8TB SSD, I would have bought every one of them already:-)

is this better than this other seagate backup drive - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/331542 around the same price give or take a dollar.

    • The one in this listing can be used with ps4, the one in your link cannot.

I personally think the hard disk from Seagate isn't durable.

  • Seagate seem to wax and wane on their warranty commitments for a) drives sourced globally and b) drives removed from housings.
I am under the impression that seagate offer a global warranty, serviced locally - so any drives purchased from amazon US or EU can be warranted locally with a $10 mail bag to seagate Australia in sydney. Anyone know if this is still the case? I also understand they offer the full 3 year warranty, but have heard recent comments that the global warranty is now only 1 year??
Also, do seagate offer to warrant bare drives that have been pulled from enclosures? At one point they did - I've also heard now they do not.

Any feedback of actual or attempted warranty claims or communique from seagate?

    • Removing the drive will void your warranty,

    SMR drive according to this

    • The desktop drive (your link) is different from this one which is the Expansion model,

That said no guarantees, could be SMR too

I'm going to open mine when I get it,

Can advise model if interested let me know

  • Excellent first time post op, and welcome to Ozbargain :).

    • thx

  • Thanks OP, just bought one - $182.46 USD shipped.

  • 4TB portable is also a good price $139.50 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017KE8OG0

    • 4TB WD drives have been $99 recently. I know $105 is a small difference but this is OZB after all.

  • Hi All

I just received my drive today, shucked the disk and it is a Seagate Barracuda Pro ST8000DM004 - hard drive - 8 TB - SATA 6Gb/s

    https://www.cnet.com/products/seagate-barracuda-pro-st8000dm…

Not unhappy, looks like they are still available

    • Found your post pretty late - easy to shuck? Do you have to break pins or anything?

  • Just checked MSY cost for the same disk bare $489
