  • not bad and by the picture it looks like a KDL40HX800 ( 1700 cheapest on static ice ) and its eligable for the 3d bonus pack = )

    • +1

Its not eligable, it is the HX800 but gets a different model number, its 40HX8003DPACK or something.

      • ahh damn that sucks then , still a good price tho

  • +1

Unbelivable price, thinking that I bought my Samsung LCD 50" 1.5 years ago for $2400….

  • Excellent bargain, makes the other one look expensive!

I think plasma will be the go for 3D for its refresh rate. Oh, and PS4 is whats really needed for 3D gaming, unless the PS3 graphics processor will somehow be upgraded.
Are these deals priming a ready market to welcome a PS4 3D gaming system, while also offloading PS3 at the end of its run of being next gen gaming?

    • +1

I thought PS3 still had 4-5 more years before the update/PS4 is due, it was supposed to have a 10 year life. I will be buying maybe 2 TVs between now and PS4

      • PS1 released 94
        PS2 released 00
        PS3 released 06
        PS4 release ?
so thats 6 years each, and now 3D screens and gaming are here the PS3 just is not up to the immense graphics demands and refresh rates it demands…yet a PC can pack that power, so you can conclude PS3 is on a tether remaining next gen.
The 60GB PS3 release price of $1000 will now build you a powerful 3D gaming PC.

        • True, I guess the 10 year life thing is cause they overlap a bit, PS2 is still being sold 10 years after release.

Its strange that GT5, a game over 5 years in the making would come out with a mere 1-2 years left of PS3 life.

Oh well, there is still a good 4 years in PS3 and at this sort of 3D technology, I will upgrade for the next gen.

I think plasma will be the go for 3D for its refresh rate

If you are talking about refresh rates like 600Hz sub-field drive then you are being tricked by the marketing.

The screen image does not really refresh at 600hz.

The standard refresh rate is 60Hz, all the tv does is flash the pixels on the screen 10 times very fast. This is supposed to trick your eyes into thinking the image motion is smoother.

      A "600Hz sub-field drive" is no better than a 120Hz LCD.

I think that the faster refresh rates on LCD TV's is actually better than plasma sub-field drive.

If you look at a 120Hz LCD tv what it is doing is looking at the first frame and second frame then making its own frame out of the information it has and then displaying this entirely new frame between frame 1 and 2.
So the TV is actually making extra images and inserting them between the broadcast images. This is where the doubled refresh rate comes from.

So on an LCD you have the TV actually making a new image with a progression of the movement.
On a plasma you have the same images being broadcast with the tv flashing the image. (Basically Turning the screen on and off)

I mean refresh rate of the pixel as response time 5ms / 2ms gtg LCD, and 0.0001ms for plasma. LCDs have had limited frame rates of 60-85hz because the above means that in one second of 60 frames, thats 60 x 5ms, equaling 300ms or 30% of the time the pixel is in transition, and delivers the image for 70% of the time, or 11.67ms per 16.67ms frame. This has improved recently, however still does not take into consideration dithering.
Now plasma has been 100hz from the beginning, and the near instant response time for a pixel, 0.0001ms means it delivers image more of the time. You can see as frame rates rise to 120hz and beyond, the response time of plasma is a clear advantage, while LCD will never truly compete to deliver as much image in a given amount of time.

  • they're all out of stock across Brisbane stores according to the website ! :(

      Springwood has some.

    • COTD having it on special at $1499 includes 3D glasses and 3D transmitter! correct me if I'm wrong, this is standalone unit should be eligible to claim Sony's latest bonus offer, which is definitely a great bargain package in my opinion!

      • +1

        is COTD an 'authorised dealer'?

        • not sure tho. thanks for reminding!

        • i think so. i spoke to "mitch" from sony promotion and he said yes. and also its not $1499 its $1599 , by far cheapest i ve seen anywhere ..

        • -1

note the even if COTD is an authorised dealer thay may take ages to ship the item to u and so u will never get the serial number off it

        • xavierdylan

Not true, took my friend only 4 days last time around to get the delivery

        • I rang Sony and spoke to a woman named Agnes she checked around and said catchoftheday wasn't an authorised dealer, so I wouldn't count on being able to claim bonus (http://promotion.sony.com.au/bravia3d), still waiting on a response from COTD on the matter.

  • I can't find one store with stock in the whole of W.A. according to their website.

  • Is this an LED TV or just an LCD TV?

    • +1

      It's a LED backlit LCD.

    • +1

LED is the same as an LCD except for the backlighting. =.= Don't be fooled by the marketing.

  • How good is this SONY TV compared to the SAMSUNG TV in the link http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/television…

    • I would say the Sony is abit better, with 200Mhz compared to 100Mhz. everything else would be the save .. the sony saves abit more power compared to the samsung around 15%.

Well the PS3 turns 5 years old.
    PS1 released 94
    PS2 released 00
    PS3 released 06
    PS4 release ?
so thats 6 years each, and now 3D screens and gaming are here is the PS3 up to the immense graphics demands and refresh rates it demands?… a PC can pack that power, so you can conclude PS3 is on a tether remaining next gen.
The 60GB PS3 release price of $1000 will now build you a powerful 3D gaming PC.

    • your dates are inaccurate. it's not even 4 years old yet and it will have a 10 yr lifespan, just like its predecessor.

      • within 10 years of the PS2 released the PS3 was also released, so it is not going to be 10 years from the PS3 release that we will see the PS4.
will you provide a link to evidence of international PS series release dates?…mine were only drawn from wikipedia.

  • HX6: 50Hz
