  • Not an amazing price. This was $175 at Futu a few months ago….

Not saying it is an amazing price, however, it is the cheapest online right now from my understanding which is why I posted it…..

Sorry OP, been cheaper. This 20% off sale is mediocre!

    • I am aware, thanks.

    • It's previously been $195 delivered (after $25 Asus Cashback) plus Bonus $100 eBay Voucher plus 16GB SanDisk microSD.

  • Stupid Asus and their cashback fiasco

    • I got my Cashback in September… purchased in May.

    Cheaper by 80 cents

    Negging deal to bring attention.

You can neg me as well, I don't care haha. Still doesn't change the fact it's cheaper at Sydneytec.

Rather spend the extra .80¢ and get from Futu.

        • You had a bad experience? or

  • Just bought one from China for AUD $92… Can't understand why every router is expensive in Australia, on exactly same models.

    • +3

Good luck with the warranty :)

      • If this one broken after a few years, I'd just buy another one, still cheaper…

    • What warranty if you flashed it with DD_WRT? Where did you buy it in China?

    • If I was in China, I'd seriously consider buying RT-AC86U or even RT-AC88U instead, a couple of years newer than AC68U and extra RAM and flash memory should future-proof for much longer. Have to agree the price in China is insanely cheap compared to AU prices.

      • holy crap.. Im going to china in 2 weeks time.. thanks for the headsup.

        • Lucky you! Just beaware Merlin doesn't support AC86U at the mo, but it does support AC88U.

  • I'd stick with https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/327856 for the initiated. Given the price it's worth a punt. But this is definitely not for everyone.

    • Good price and good model.

I ended up betting my money on a second hand $190 from gumtree netgear nighthawk R8000 for other miscellaneous reasons mainly because the name nighthawk is cool haha lol I know poor me take my Ozbargain bureau but so far it has been spectacular and looks bad ass which was a minor luxury.

      • Fantastic! The main chips are the similar level as AC68U so extra happiness from the looks.

        • Most definitely! They are pretty much the same hardware just different branding and casing/external aesthetics.

        • @AlienC: Personally I feel the differentiating factor at the moment at the moment is mostly in firmware.

Read CNET review saying Synology router can block some of the secure websites that most other routers can't. ASUS routers have VPN client support out of the box, and also people rave about the Merlin firmware. Haven't had a Netgear router for quite a while - can anyone comment on the pros/cons of the Netgear firmware?

I bought a T-Mobile AC1900 (rebadged Asus RT-AC68) from the US and flashed with the Asus and then DD-WRT firmware for much less (from an earlier post) :)
