The net price is $195, ebay gives you a $100 voucher, not $100 cashback

    • -7

If you are like me, the $100 eBay voucher is as good as cash.

My eBay wishlist is so long, I'm putting the $100 voucher to good use.

For this router $95 is a bargain ;)

      • It's still $195 - for that you get an ASUS RT-AC68U, 16GB SanDisk Memory Card, and $100 eBay voucher valid for 30 days.

You can't redeem the voucher for cash, you can't spend it anywhere but eBay, and if you fail to redeem it in time you lose it forever.

If you don't care for the memory card, you can get the modem $1 cheaper from Futu.

        • +3

Yes but for $1 more you get a 16GB Memory card

        • +1

It is actually $5 cheaper. They are selling it for $190 ($215 - $25 cash back). Is the 16GB memory card worth it for extra $5?

        • +1

@amsut1: Nice, they dropped the price from $219 - but I thought the description mentioned the $25 cashback, it doesn't any longer.

Asus' terms state the cashback is for purchases from authorised and participating retailers, which Futu might not be.

Might be safer to buy from their $215 Shopping Express listing as this boasts "Asus $25 Cash Back Till 30th Nov".

  • if someone already claimed their $100 then this item will not cost $95

    • +3

The deal starts today and eBay will issue the voucher in Nov

  • Is the voucher issued by ebay usable with ANY item on ebay?

    • Yes. Even international purchases in another currency.

  • can anybody compare this product which is better, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NETGEAR-D6300-AC1600-Wireless-Mod…

    • Asus. But this is a router as mentioned earlier. If you are using it as a modem, get dsl-68u.

  • Am I missing something here? Shouldn't you be spending at least $200 to get the $100 voucher??

Edit: Clicked the link apparently it's $220, ignore.

If you prefer Netgear R7000 its available too - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Netgear-R7000-AC1900-Nighthawk-Sm…

    • +1

Yeah I bought the R7000 for $203, how does it compare to RT-AC68U?

      • It has a faster CPU. 1Ghz dual core and can be overclocked to 1.2Ghz, useful for VPN setup. It is also the default router used by the DD-WRT developer so support is good.

      • Would like more feedback on this, I always thought that the Asus was the best router on the market at the moment?

and how does this router perform with wireless N connections (I don't have any AC devices as of yet)

    • That's not the cheapest option available

      • $203 cheapest for the R7000?

        • I think so, cheapest that will qualify for the voucher anyway.

    • bought this, thanks for the tip!
Looking forward to trying out DD-WRT, upgrading from an asus N68U

      • I wouldn't have bought it if you already have an N68U, its better but not really that much better, both are good.

        • Handing it off to a relative, I'm looking for better range, I believe AC beamforming helps heaps?

  • Any thoughts on a Asus RT-AC87U and EA-AC87 Media Bridge setup?

  • Oh no. I bought last week and haven't arrived yet.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360886377597 for $5 less without the microsd.

Great router. Was going to get the AC87ur but end up didn't as there are too many reports of unstable firmware. End up getting my second AC68u :).

  • +1

If you are after the DSL/Modem, please search for DSL-AC68U and the deal should be $173 which is also a bargain by itself.

    Uhhh…

    http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=dsl-ac68u&spos=… (min $280)
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASUS-DSL-AC68U-Dual-Band-Wireless… ($298)

Just a few $ off there.

    • Im after the DSL too and its not as cheap. TO get to $173 as mentioned by the OP, he reduced the purchase price by $100 (ebay voucher) and $25 (asus cashback). $298 - $100 - $25 = $173

      • +1

The price should be quoted without the $100 voucher IMO, since that $100 doesn't come off the price and you need to buy other things to take advantage of it.

  • im still waiting for my cashback 25 its a ripp off, they dont give cashback…

    • depend on serial number of device, if Au stock, the cashback should be granted. Otherwise, no cashback.

Do you get 100GB life time storage with this purchase? I saw several ebay store offering this although I am not sure whether this come from Asus itself or from somewhere else.

    • it comes from ASUS

      • Thank you! So basically you will get it no matter where you bought the router from?

        • Australian Seller, I'm not sure about grey import

  • Hi guys, I’m using this Asus router with my older Billion 7800 modem/router in front.

    My setup is as follows:

    Internet/ADSL -> Billion 7800 modem/router -> Asus Router (OpenVPN client connection to NordVPN) -> Home wired/wireless devices | cheapie Asus 8 port router upstairs -> TV/PS4/AppleTV/Sonos

I’ve flashed the firmware on the Asus router to the Merlin WRT firmware and am using the OpenVPN client on it to connect to NordVPN just for basic privacy.

About once a day the setup drops out and I have to turn both devices on/off again for them to work. I have tried using deduction to figure out which device is causing the problem with no luck. It could also be the VPN, although I though the router would be clever enough to auto reconnect?

I’m at the point of frustration where I’m considering buying just a single device (the DSL-AC68U) and selling the other two for a simpler setup and hopefully eliminate the issue. Has this helped anyone else experiencing this problem?

    • +1

Your problem most likely lays in the bridging part.
It is usually better to use a Modem Only for bridging. Quite alot of times due to slight variations on software implementation on either the modem side or router side, the bridging causes issues.

Also did you switch off the router mode on 7800 and set it to simply be a Modem Bridge then let the Asus Router do all the authentication with ISP?

      My Setup is:
Internet / ADSL -> Netgear DM111P (In Bridge Mode, No authentication done) -> Asus Router (configured to authenticate and connect to internet)
This is generally what should be done, so you don't have 2 routers running side by side and have all the settings at 1 location (e.g. on the router).

When you bridge it is essentially plugging in another device which provides the modem functionality, it does nothing to connect to the internet it waits for commands from its connected device (router) to establish a connection.

      • Ah… no… I haven't changed the config at all on the Billion modem/router since I was using that device on it's own. I will try your suggestions, set the Billion to bridge and get the Asus to do the ISP authentication. Thanks for the suggestion!

Do you have to purchase from one of the places listed to qualify for the cashback from Asus?
    http://www.asuspromotion.net/au/router-cashback/

    • I'm am wondering about this too. Anyone?

    • +1

      The terms state:

To be eligible, consumers must purchase one or more of the following participating products: Asus networking products (RT-AC66U /RT-AC68U / DSL-AC68R / DSL-AC68U / RT-AC87U / RT-AC3200) from an authorised and participating ASUS retailer/reseller within Australia.

So those listed would be authorised and participating. However, Shopping Express' eBay listing also claims "Asus $25 Cash Back Till 30th Nov". If Asus refused the cashback, you have PayPal and ACL protection on your side.

  • hey guys, I'm trying to buy ASUS Router, but when I select the pickup option, and then proceed to Paypal, I get an error - This option is unavailable at the moment. I've been trying from last 3 hours.

anyone else having same issue ??

    • +1

I think issue with eBay. I got this and then tried again and was fine. Perhaps try on computer?

      • thanks mate, it worked eventually, when I tried on Laptop

Only found this from same seller

  • Is it worth to retire my TP link Archer D7 over this Asus AC68U? the D7 usb transfer speed is maxed at 15MB/s thats my main concern so far.

  • Does wireless1 let u return in store from ebay sale?

    • yes

  • At least this one's still the same price from this morning. My post went from $204 to $500, ridiculous!

  • Wireless1 for the DSL-AC68U doesn't have it available for collection at Woolworths which makes the eBay $100 not eligible unfortunately unless they change that.

The other stores aren't listed on the ASUS "Where to Buy" list so does that mean they aren't eligible for the $25 cash back? :S

    • it does mate, I ordered one myself and I checked again before replying you. They havn’t changed anything. It's available

    • Hi TieNN89.

Thanks for pointing that out, here's the listing available for C&C:

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ASUS-Bundle-DSL-AC68U-AC1900-Giga…

      • SWEEEETTTTTT!!!!

And it went up $1? :S

        • Oh wait that one comes with a memory card as well

          All good

      • This listing is back up to $299

        • Turns out I can't follow threads ….

  • got this router last week on ebay.. feeling sad about it ;(

edit: why am i associated? I'm just a paying customer who paid full price last week.. oh well at least i can get $25 back

  • Wireless1 drop its price today. It is $217 now. So for $2 extra you can score free 16GB MicroSD. Not bad!

    • It's now down to $215 so the 16GB MicroSD is free :)

edit: saw the wrong tabs…comparing too many sellers…it's still 217… :(

      • not fair for those purchased and supported deal earlier.

  • Need a good modem router (ADSL2+ for now)

I am tossing between TP-LINK Archer D9 or the ASUS DSL-AC68U.

Any recommendation what to get? Is there a 3rd better option around the same price here ($250-300)

    • get this or r7000 plus a cheap broadcom chip modem/router for ~40 if you don't mind using 2 devices.

      • I had the r7000 and buggy so I had sold it for the cheap and have replaced it with ac68u and have not looked back. In fact I have bought another one for work.

    • D9 is good. Used for good 8 months

  • Is it worth it to get R8000 over this for extra $40?? Extra 5ghtz?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/216134

    • Nope

  • Thanks OP.. Bought one finally

  • I had ordered one on Sat night. Wireless1 now tell me the routers are out of stock and I'll have to wait a few more days. Hope that has no bearing on the $100 eBay voucher and the $25 cash back.

    • As long as you finalised the transaction and paid for your purchase before the deal expired you should be fine. The fact that they are out of stock should have no bearing on the voucher, unless perhaps if they can't get in any more stock and decide to refund you.

      • Thanks

  • +1

Guy, just to remind you that they want the serial label on the router and not from the box for the claim to be valid.

    • did you get an email from asus after applying for cash back ? Thanks

  • Can anyone tell me how the $100 vouchers are claimed?

    I haven't got mine yet…

  • Thanks for the info Voiper.

Without doing anything, now I see an alert in the 'My Ebay' drop down menu that I have a $100 voucher!

Maybe it was there before but I certainly did not notice it.

  • Has anyone received their cash back or any confirmation from Asus? :)

    • +1

CashRewards went fine, still waiting on Asus eftpos card. (It's not cash) Claims it can take up to 8 weeks so still a couple of weeks to go.

      • You should have received tons of emails today regarding this.

        • Which in all honesty is disappointing from ASUS to share our emails publicly.

        • @CoolMJ: At least there was some interesting discussion.

  • Could anyone message me the generic birthdate password provided by ASUS in the email for activating the $25 Eftpos Gift Card? Thanks a lot.
