  • Beat me to it.

Available on GoG DRM-free for about $6 more.

      This would be my preference.

Either way, an amazing game- one of the best PC games I've played in the last decade.

    • +4

Looks like GOG gives you back the $6 difference in wallet funds for future purchases, which is pretty sweet

    • +4

Unless I'm mistaken, you can get it on Humble Bundle for the same price, and have it on GoG through that.

Strongly considering it. My main rule is "will I actually get around to playing this before it goes cheaper", and I don't know if I will. Might wait for Christmas sales.

      • +1

I use the same rule, this is a great price, but i reckon it will get cheaper before i play it.

  • +1

I had a wonderful time with this game. I played it on PS4 first, then bought it on PC as well.

    Highly recommend!

    • Which platform did you prefer it on??

      • +2

Probably PS4. I was sitting back on the couch just exploring this wonderful world. I had no idea what to expect and just loved it.

But… once I played the PC version it became impossible to go back to PS4. The improved graphics and seeing it run at 100 frames was phenomenal. So if you were going in cold, if you have a medium spec or below PC I'd go PS4. If you have a great PC then it has to be PC.

        • +1

Wicked, Thanks for the input :D

    • worth the replay on PC? I started again on ps4 before i built my rig but this is tempting

      • +1

Honestly it depends on what kind of gamer you are. I 100%'d it on PS4 pretty much, and I didn't finish it again on PC. It's just too long and I don't have the time.

So it was cool seeing it on PC with way better gfx, but I don't think it was worth buying twice. 10 years ago I was way more of a gamer though, I would replay games a few times if I loved them so back then it was a different story.

  • Got the PS4 version without the DLC, and the PC version looks cheaper than buying the Blood & Wine expansion for console. My save file doesn't work anymore either so I think I might pounce on this offer

  • Got this during the last sale and loved it (been playing games since at least text-based Zork days). On my second run through now and it's still enjoyable and finding a lot of stuff I missed the first time around.

    • I'm still playing through the 2nd game, maybe a quarter way through. I don't get too play as much as I'd like. Tossing up whether to keep plugging on, or just stop now and jump into Witcher 3.

      • I didn't play the first 2 games so I don't think you 'need' to finish it off. Witcher 3 is a pretty BIG game though, especially with the DLC's and it took me ages to get through it. Mind you I like to milk a game for everything it's got rather than rush top the finish line if you know what I mean? :)

      • I did but back when they got released. They do all connect in terms of characters. Meaning you get to see what happened to them after part 1 or 2 which is nice. Just gives you an extra sense of engagement

Best game I've ever played. And the ONLY game I've ever paid for the DLC (and loved it)…

Honestly, this spoiled me for other games. Everything else seems lifeless… not to mention bad ports, worthless DLC, microtransactions, checkpoints, re-used levels, reliance on online stuff, etc etc…

  • Got a copy off Chinese steam store for ~$12
Can easily use a http proxy in China to set store location to China and get cheap cheap prices
Nvm Renminbi get a fee free card eg 28degreees you are good to go

They can lock your account for this if you get caught. I had my account disabled years ago for buying the GTA collection from the UK store. Mind you, I now have the Indian store (as I visited there recently) and get it even cheaper.

      • +2

Never directly bill on the main account… Just create dummies to gift to the main account. I don’t think Valve bans you on receiving gift from ‘another nation’ :)

        • +1

Yes that may work better than using your own account although then you run the risk of region restrictions.

    =(

Every night after gym, walking the dog and dinner I tell myself I'll play some games but in the end I just sit there on YouTube or read the news.

I really want to but in the end I just get too tired and want to relax.

I really want to get this game but I know I won't get around to it for ages.

Got 3 kids. Busy work life. A demanding boss (wife).

200+ hours later. Finished it including DLCs.

      Best game for me.

      You can do it.

Once you're sucked into the world of Witcher, exhaustion, stress, hunger, thirst, bowel movements, illness, adult responsibilities will not matter to you and won't stop you from playing this masterpiece of a game.

Btw, playing Zelda BOTW now. Up there with witcher :)

      • +4

I'm waiting for the follow up reply that you're now divorced and living alone but totally worth it.

    • +2

I played it a few times and then found I cbf'd and haven't played it since.
If you're like me your heart is still like when you were a kid and loved rpg type games etc but now the reality is you don't have the time… and when you do get a bit of time later at night you're not interested.

      • +1

Yep. When I was 19 I thought gaming was for life. But now I'm 37 and I just can't justify those sorts of sessions anymore. There's too many other things I want to do!

    • +1

      damn……. same as me

    • +3

Have you tried setting a timer for 15 minutes and saying that you'll just spend 15 minutes playing BEFORE you hit YouTube or the news?

It can make a world of difference.

Also something that can help is printing out a "Don't break the chain" calendar where you can see it.

This helps heaps to avoid aimless browsing for me. If only I'd found it a few years earlier.

I started playing games again this year and got myself to do some online courses by doing this.

      Haha story of my life..

  • I loved The Witcher 1 but can't get into The Witcher 2.
Anyone played all 3 that can weigh in with suggestions ?
    Cheers

    • +3

I played the second. It's worth it for the story, but gameplay definitely pales in comparison to #3. I would say if you don't have the time, maybe just research the story and jump to the third instead.

I'm 40+ hours into TW3 and only just reached the 3rd region.. so yeah, it's a timesink :P But one of the best and most rewarding! I have dreams about this game, it seriously sucks you in…

      • thanks :) Seems too good a price to not bite the bullet. :)

    • I would like to know this too. I have 1 and 2 on GOG.

    • +1

I am currently in TW3, having played 1 and 2. The combat in 2 is difficult to get into at first, but spending half an hour in the arena helped me get used to it (and realise I needed to play it on normal).

Import your savegame from TW1, and just know that some of the most important characters (e.g. Zoltan and Dandelion) have big parts in this game too, and are much better acted and realised. And there's a choice at the end of chapter 1 which has much bigger repercussions than anything from TW1 did. Towards the end, the story gets very grand and flows into TW3 very well. You can skip it, but best not to. Once you get into it, it's great.

      • +2

Thanks, appreciate the lengthy explanation. Pulled trigger ! :)

  • Wait for Black Friday deals, it will be even cheaper!

    • Do they usually have black friday sales? never quite noticed it..

  • any difference to GoG? both steam based??

    • GoG has its own client, though it's DRM free so you technically don't even need to use it. Just helps to manage the installation and apply patches (much the same as Steam) but you don't need the client running in order to play the game.

If you buy on GoG you cannot activate on Steam, so just bear that in mind.

    • No. Gog is simply a direct download and can be played offline (DRM free). If you are lucky, then GOG may offer the Witcher series as part of their GOG Connect offering some time in the future (i.e. giving you DRM free versions of your Steam games) so you can have two copies.

  • I already have this on my PC via GOG which I bought ages ago. This is very tempting as I now have a steam link and a 65" TV in my lounge room where I could replay through it.

    • Just add it as a non Steam game to the client and play on the TV without needing to re purchase

  • +1

Nice! I finally bought Blood and Wine from GOG for ~$15AUD and got $2.36AUD store credit back.
They upgraded my copy to GOTY cause I now have all the DLC.

  • Does anyone recommend playing the previous two games?
I tried the first one but it just didn't grab me.

  • The problem I have with any PC game is, I buy it, and just sits there in library because all my mates are playing PUBG and I get sucked in as well. (previously Dota)

  • In the cart as we speak :)
