According to specs, the second SIM slot is shared with microSD card,

    • +2

I hate that they all do that.

      • +1

There are a few phones that don't: Moto G4+, Moto G5+ but not Moto G5S+.
I expect to hear a few complaints from people buying the Moto G5S+.

The design is so 2015, massive bezels

    • +2

True…but a bezelles phone with these specs wouldn't be selling for $640

    • Whats worse is that horrid box design that they haven't changed in years. Looks like they've picked up on that and next years models will be updated with a new design.

      • +1

I actually still like their 'omnibalance', look. Because of it's minimalism it ages well. As Jessie Ryder pointed out, what makes it look dated is the large bezels.

    • -1

More like so 2013… hasn't really changed since then.

  • some say dated design but dem camera capabilities though! :O pretty solid package IMO

    • better than lumia 808 ?

      • comes down to glass or gimmicks i suppose.

I have the prior release with the same camera. Love it. 960 FPS hello.

  • Is the seller repliable?

    • +4

87.7% seller rating.. Might be the lowest I've seen in a while

I am a big Sony Xperia fan as i have stated many times on here. I am still running my Z5 and it still feels good well okay its a bit scratched lol. Its actually lasted a longer now i am taking care of it slightly better only been in water a few times. It still drops heaps when you leave it on a slippery surface it slides or edges but they are built like a brick.

Isn't this phone the XZ1 a downgrade from the XZ premium? Isn't the XZ only like $100 extra (actually its the same price now). They are similar spec phones but the XZ has the 4k screen? Is the camera the same?
Why would you buy this phone over the XZ premium?

    • +2

This phone is cheaper and has a newer design that's more comfortable to hold. You only get the premium for the 4k screen. This phone is meant to be more of an upgrade to the XZs.
Edit: the XZ1 also has better contrast on the screen and better outdoor visibility according to GSMArena's tests compared to the premium

      • Yes but without the 20% off and they are the same price what one would you chose?

Its an upgrade as in a sense its cheaper RRP and delivers the same specs performance wise. It is not a true upgrade when the hardware is the same.

I am trying to understand what Sony is doing with this phone. Why not just release the XZ1 as a true upgrade like better specs 4k screen all that stuff?

        • I think they plan to release a premium version later. But I'm pretty sure you've seen that Sony's product strategy is in a bit of mess and the XZ1 seems like an attempt to catch up to competitors which are priced lower.

To me a 4k screen is actually a negative, and besides the bragging rights, it has no practical benefit whatsoever but does drain the battery and system resources.

    • Ditto here, I've got the z3 and it was great for battery life, and I'm using the current z5, but I've been hesitant to get the last couple of iterations…. mainly due to battery life.

Currently considering other options such as LG's G6 or even the s8 plus.

I had the Z5 Compact, which was fantastic, although the overheating issue was a bit annoying. After I cracked the screen out of warranty a half a year or so ago, I got the Xperia X on special from JB Hi-Fi and have actually been enjoying it a more than the Z5C.

I'm not missing any of the power but loving the larger screen with higher resolution, and the same high-end camera with better software (object tracking)

The only issue I can report is that, quite often, after a short while of shooting the video, I get the message that the phone is too hot and needs to shut down, even though the phone is barely warm. C'mon Sony!

I think the ZX1 Compact will be a big hit, essentially most powerful small phone you can buy. Great specs on it and good battery life from reviews. And re the bezels, have a look at any iPhone… Bezels galore bruh. Why does Sony cop flack?

    • +1

      Agreed.
      Screen to body ratio:-
      Sony XZ1 Compact: 70.7%
      Samsung S6: 70.7%
      iPhone 8: 65%

  • From a seller with 87.8% feedback though…

They've got the XZ1 Compact for $576, a total bargain.

    • i really wanted to get xz1 compact
would have bought it if it was a dual sim phone. :(

  • Just ordered one and it seems that it will be shipping from HK? I was not aware that it would since I assumed it was local stock as it says AU based.

Lots of complaints about selling items without stock - I will wait until for some other supplier
