  • Damaged s22 ultra and had to buy one same day to close jobs. Ended up with a56 crap.

    • Sorry to hear that mate. Might be useful as a backup phone once you get yourself another flagship :)

    • What's wrong with A56. I was considering buy one today?

      • +1

Well he came from a s22 ultra, so…

        • -1

Uses a flagship, buys a midranger. OMG why is midranger so bad! Lol.

A56 is fine probably wait for a special, enough grunt from day to day uses.

      • +1

        exynos

    • If I purchase this, will my optus network (OnePass mobile network) work with it?

  • +10

But wait there's more will telstra block it like they have on thousands of good working phones.

    • Why are Telstra doing that? And is it just them or other telcos also?

      • +1

coz they want you to pay unnecessarily expensive phones 'locally'.

      • +7

When Telstra shut off 3g they black listed a lot of import phones even tho they work fine they are total morons.

        • What a bunch of (profanity)

      • Because (profanity) you that's why

  • +14

Until the 'whitelist' of imei's gets torn down, not worth risking an import phone.

Biggest BS ive lived through yet, that.

Plus side, its rootable, so you could change the imei, but for $17? Not worth it.

    • Just use Optus or Vodafone. Whilst it is in their power to do the same as Telstra they probably won't because they know they've one over thousands of customers through Telstra's stupidity.

      • +1

A relative had the Xiaomi blocked on Optus, but it worked on Telstra.

Totally agree it is very high risk.

You can check the IMEI at AMTA Check My Device

      • All tecos are bound by the ACMA - They're all currently doing it. Some have less lax lists, which is why you hear of discrepencies, but none are 'safe'.

        • really? i'm was using a overseas version of poco f3, on telstra and it had been working fine. When they shut down 3g I had to work out how to activate some setting, but someone in reddit posted the short code to do it and it had been fine till last week (when the board fried).

    • +2

This does come with 12/256 while the JB one comes with 12/128. You are paying $17 for less storage. But since it is an import phone, who knows if it'll be allowed or not.

    • I imported a vivo x200 pro. Still working. Knock on wood.

    • +4

How does this impact tourists? Are they expected to buy a new phone on arrival?

      • +2

No, there's a 60 day grace period, students and workers though, yes.
A lnaguage coach I work with just had to replace their Japanese iPhone 13 for an Australian one :(

The 60 day I think is nonsense, when the maximum no-visa travel is 90 days…. they should have gone with 100.

    • +1

Another reason to avoid Telstra! … Optus is rubbish, lairs & absolute stupid (though corporately normal) in the way they treat customers, thanks to the Optus Vodaphone deal I can now use a Felix as Voda had no presence here before the deal.

    • -1

I'm waiting to join class action to sue optus and vodafone. any big law firms willing to come in?

  • +3

I have the 2a. Whatta great smartphone

  • Should I get Pixel 8 a or this phone?

    • +4

Pixel 8 if you want faster software updates and patches.

      • How about camera?

        • +4

pixel 8 wins camera hands down

        • +5

I came from a Samsung and I thought the Pixel's camera gave me washed out photos. It took me a while to realise that Samsung really bumped up the colours for their photos. The Pixel gives you colours that are close to what you actually see.

    • +12

Pixel all the way man. This phone is nothing compared to Pixel.

      • Oh ic. Thank you

    • I don't know about pixel. Look up battery life, unremovable launcher widget, no dual app support, slipping issues etc before going ahead. I certainly wouldn't get a pixel after my first pixel 8 now.

      • +1

Not attacking, but just honest curiosity…

Battery life… maybe. I took off my Samsung Health app, and that extended my battery life a bit. It must have something to do with apps themselves and not the phone. Probably.

Unremoveable launcher widget… not sure what you mean. I install the Microsoft Launcher on every phone I use and I haven't had any issues.

Dual app support… again, not sure what you mean. If you mean splitting 2 apps into one screen, it seems fine for me. I split Pokemon Go and WhatsApp quite often. No issues.

Slipping issues… like… from your hands? I use a phone case.

        • Why would anyone not use a phone case given how delicate most high end phones are now.

        • +1

All good. Just wanted to let the aiyoyo know about cons I found before going ahead. It's a great phone for a lot of people but one of the worst for me.

Battery life is the worst out of all the phones I've used. Of course it only happens to those 'unlucky' but it's a well-known issue.

I expected the old Nexus 4 stock rom/launcher experience but let's just say there's a lack of customisation - yes it can be resolved with another launcher.

Dual app support is creating a copy of the same app which I thought was featured in most phones.

Slipping issue as in you can't put your phone on non-flat surface as the camera 'bump' on the back will make the phone slip and fall. Again I prefer to use without the case as I bought P8 for its small size.

          • @Usemame: Fair points. To each his own. I miss the Nexus phones.

Dual app support is something Samsungs can do. I never did it, but I know people who do it for Pokemo… for essential apps.

      • +1

I have pixel 8 pro and had 7 pro before this. Battery life is fine. Rest of my family all have iphones and I'm the one with charge left at the end of the day.

  • +1

Nothing announced that Phone 3 will be dropping in July 2025 on twitter if anyone wants to wait and see what comes out then.

I think it will be a proper flagship phone so the cost will be much higher than before

    • I'm waiting for that. I'm currently on a google pixel 6 pro. The main thing I like about it are the frequent security updates. It's been a great phone, but I'm getting a bit tired of the google ecosystem. I'm trying to bust out of it. I've even set up an immich server so I can get away from Google Photos and stop paying $100+ pa to store them. And I just want to try something new. I'm not down for iphone.

      • Haha we are like the same person! I'm thinking to go either Moto or Nothing at the moment, p6p battery is very mediocre now

  • +2

Is this phone good for nothing?

    • +2

      Nothing is good

  • -8

    Such a cringe name.
This company does nothing that innovative.

    • +1

that's so lol.. all they do is innovate. that's why they stand out from a stagnant market of same same phones.

  • +2

    No esim capabilities..

  • Not sure its worth the shipping and no warranty for $17 less than a local product.

    • +3

$17 less for 128GB, and this is 256GB.

      • +1

Aha. Devil is in the details that clearly I glossed over.

        • But you're right, saving $106.3, but at the cost of warranty and potentially blocked by telco.

      • Still a huge risk. I had a pixel that was 19 months old. Battery bulge happened. Replaced for free.

I'd be super frustrated if my saving costed me down the line

        • +2

The past tense of cost is still cost.

Costed is used when you’re calculating the cost of a project. For example, the build of X was costed at 1.2 million, but the actual cost was 1.5 million.

          • +1

@OzzyBrak: I'm currently writing a business case so yeah. Brain is in project land 😁

        • I believe Amazon DE will still cover you, although Nothing probably won't.

  • +1

Stock up on JB gift card when it is 10% off. Then it will be $689 - 10% = $620 at JB. For local support and warranty, I think it is well worth it :)

    • Indeed a safer deal.

  • +1

They look cool and I like the idea of a De-Googled phone, which I don't know this is or capable of achieving.

What is the selling point of the Nothing Phone?

    • +1

The flashy lights on the back lol

    • +2

      Nothing really.

Just hype from the ceo when it first launched. He was ex-ceo or high up of one plus which he did the same marketing strategy of "more vanilla than vanilla Android" before they got absorbed by oppo and went "mainstream"

Just another spin on Android like like oxygen or oneui.

    • +1

Cost to performance is in its favor.
The community forums actually having influence over their product is nice.
      Easily unlocked bootloader.
      Programmable status lights.
The default 'no data collected' branded software stack.

  • Only 3 years of Android updates…. I reckon it should be a bit longer.

But then I know of one car company offering a whopping 4 years of warranty.

  • For under $20 more you have Australian stock with Aus warranty and jbhifi being really good with these things.

    I don't think this is a deal.

    • But $20 is $20

    • +1

JB is 128GB and this is 256GB so there is also that

  • -1

What about 3a pro? Better than this?

    • +1

probably a safe assumption that the 3a Pro is better than the 3a

    • For once, no actually, just different.
2x native lens vs 3x periscope lens.

The pro is worse at 2x, because 2x is digital.

But if you want more zoom, the 3x of the pro is true lens magnification.

The sensors are a LITTLE better on the pro, but not hugely noticable in use, only when A to B compared.

All specs outside the camera are 1:1.

  • Designed in London 😱

    • -1

manufactured in China and assembled in PRC with US formula

    • +1

That explains the rear design looks like London tubes.

  • would this be a good replacement to a S10

    • +1

I believe most modern phone would make a good replacement to a S10

      • -1

Some of the budget modern phone though still loose out to the S10 so a bit wary on upgrading that's all. Plus this phone doesn't have esim same to the s10 not really an upgrade in that aspect

  • If it's a "nothing" phone shouldn't it be absolutely barebones, basic, no frills?

  • GUYS this doesn't have esim support. So it's not great for travelling IMO and not very future proof!

  • +1

JBHIFI online chat gave me a Price of $575 and I picked up from my local store. Great phone
