Bunnings 'Click' Brand 5 Port 7amp USB Travel Charger $7.50 (was $28)

1611

First time listing a bargain!

Found this little gem while looking for some Seasol at Bunnings; it's a 'travel' adaptor but really it's just a multi output USB charging device. It's capable of charging 5 simultaneous devices drawing a maximum current of 7Amps.

Supports:
2x fixed Android/iOS 'IQ' ports (Up to 5V/2.4A basically. Similar tech to Power3S, PowerIQ, VoltIQ found in the Chinese chargers);
2x 2.4 Amp outlets for tablets, etc., and;
1x 1 Amp outlet.

Obviously, the device has a multitude of uses. It's actually small enough to conveniently be used for traveling (no mains cord, the device looks like and plugs into the mains outlet like a big 'wall wort'). I bought two - cheap Raspberry Pi power supplies and can always use another USB charger!

Bought from Carrum in Victoria - best to ring your local store for stock.

Enjoy

    Good find. Thanks for sharing.

  • says 5 port not 7 port.

Can't see where I noted it incorrectly as 7 port?

Haha - I'm too efficient; must have changed it without realising what I was doing.

I'm trying to work it out goldiep… but I just can't seem to figure out the most likely cause.
If only there was some scientific problem solving principle or test that I could apply to easily determine the most likely cause of events. But… alas…. it escapes me.

  • National?

    • +3

It is a clearance line with no mention/indication of this product on the Bunnings website (I checked). I would assume it's nation wide but obviously dependent on local stock (which I recommend you check).

      • +4

Unless someone has more verification I always assume these clearance stickers are NOT nationwide. Bunnings stores have heaps of variation when it comes to clearance items.

        • +2

Ok - I would have thought there would be a level of consistency for Bunnings. If not, I can post the receipt for other people to try and obtain the same deal.

        • @goldiep: can you upload the receipt now please. Am gng to have a look in local Bunnings
          Thanks

        • @georgev:

I can't right atm; nursing my new born and the items are in the car. I'll try to get something up soon. If you're in Victoria, perhaps try ringing ahead for certainty? They should be able to do a stock check.

My attached photo should also help for evidence.

Let us know how you go.

        • @goldiep: am in nsw. If possible can you send item number, ?so that they can look in stores

        • +2

          @georgev:
Item number is below the barcode in the OP's photograph.

Very little stock in NSW. Let me know where you are local to and I can look it up.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll update the OP.

    • Good for Nintendo Switch then?

      • +3

Unfortunately not as the Switch charger is 15V/2.6A iirc. A USB-PD charger with a Type-C to Type-C cable would be the best charger for it. You'll have a lot of trouble finding one of those locally.

    How much is the Seasol?

    • Haha - bought ~5 litres for around $14.

      • thats cheap! premixed or concentrate?

        • +1

It was the premixed - the ones in the 'hose connect' carry and spray bottles.

        • +7

@goldiep: The premix is where they get'cha! ..you may need a refresher course for your ozbargain license.

        • +2

          @dfaktz:

Yep and you have to be careful when buying from bunnings. The 2.4 litre seasol is actually cheaper per litre than buying the 4 litre bottles.

Driving down to the beach, grabbing a bag of seaweed and blending it up yourself is cheaper again

Had the black generic version of this a fair while ago… I think via an OzBargain deal back in the day. Worked fine but the friggin' blue light is bright enough to light up a large room! Great if you want a night light but not so good if you value complete darkness.

    • +3

Electrical tape is your friend :) But agree the led on these are bright.

      • Yeah, Electrical Tape is usually a good solution however the blue LEDs on these light up the clear plastic around the sockets so using tape is possible but it'd take a fair bit of effort to cover the whole area properly. Probably easier to disassemble and snap the LEDs off the PCB or tape over them at the board level.

        • +1

Haha. I know that pain. Bought a pedestal fan at BigW for less than $10. The whole assembly on the post that housed the buttons lit up at night. I have covered it with electrical tape, and there are still light leaks.

        • +1

Light output is so much less than I expected from reading comments. I think some may have different model.

LEDs are likely SMD, so difficult to remove. As they are positioned between USB ports, may be difficult to access. Plus opening case may be difficult, damage it & void warranty. Not worth the bother.

I just cut 2 thin slices of black electrical tape, & positioned these between the USB ports over the 2 LEDs. Light bleed through the case is barely noticeable. This can be reduced with a strip of white electrical tape on the case, which is barely noticeable.

Very little light now shows & is further reduced when cables are inserted. In complete darkness, there is just a subsued blue glow.

Writing this took many times that of solving the blue light issue.

    • Surely a small piece of sticky tape could fix this ;)

    • Thanks, it’s useful to know this. I hate all the leds lighting up the room at night.

    • Bought this - not the issue of lighting up room with this model. Light output was further reduced with 2 tiny pieces of electrical tape.

  • I bought that kit in Bunnings Grafton for $1 a couple of months ago. So not the cheapest it's been. Still a good deal at $7.50 but $28????????

    • Wow! Receipt proof or it didn't happen ;)

Great buy for a dollar! If they were that cheap I would have purchased all their stock!

      • It didn't happen ;) I only bought it because it was virtually free and yes the blue light lit up the hotel rooms we stayed at like one of those kids night lights.

  • Great bargain

  • +3

Thronleigh Bunnings doesn't event stock the item. Don't bother going there.

  • Keep the reciept handy as the quality control is spotty, and they may emit an audible buzz when switched on.

  • I have a similar one bought from airport. The unit becomes very hot if I charge Galaxy S5 and iPad together.

  • +5

This line has been deleted. It will be difficult to find any stock. Rouse Hill is showing it as available but that's about it. Can't be sure of the price though.

    • +9

Went to Bunnings last week and bought a sausage sandwich with fried onion and the sausage and onion weren't cooked properly.

      Who can I complain to?

      • Scab love your post, always a good laugh !

      • +2

I'd blame the drone you used to pick it up mate

      • +1

U can complain to whoever u want…it's getting/finding some one to listen, is probably going to be the issue : /

    • Are there any left at Blacktown? Thank you

      • +1

        No, sorry.

  • +2

Better to get a proper charger from Tronsmart or BlitzWolf
This one might have fire hazard when connecting multiple devices simultaneously

    • +1

Not sure why you were negged you're spot on. Had one of thes blow up with smoke and sparks. Have 3 Tronsmart's now going for ages with no issues

  • +4

This seems a clone or very similar to a Korjo one I once bought at Dick Smith. It also had a Ridiculous blue light which if I'd known about I wouldn't have bothered. It didn't really matter though… it only lasted one night, got incredibly hot whilst charging only a couple of devices and was dead the next morning. We were possibly lucky it didn't catch fire. Personally I would just stick with traditional chargers and a plug adapter.

    • +1

I had exactly the same experience with a similar looking generic 4-port one a few nights ago in my hotel room.

    • +2

Damn. You’ve freaked me out enough to avoid this. I’d rather sleep easy than worry about a possible fire hazard.

      • +1

There are engineering controls to minimise issues like this, as noted in the instructions. This includes overload protection which prevents the charger outputting in excess of 7 Amps.

I would imagine most/all chargers get warm, particularly due to the characteristics of switch mode power supplies. I wouldn't be too worried; there is no recall and the items are sold through a reputable Australian seller. Can't really claim those items purchasing something for a similar specification and price from eBay. Still, I'll test tonight and post my thoughts.

I think they might be a different/new revision compared to those mentioned? The one I plugged in at home only had two blue LEDs that are very dim. My always on display probably had the same radiated light in comparison. Again, I'll check with the lights out.

        • I tested this today with Bluetooth wireless headphones charging in addition to an iPad Air 2 and my LG V20. The charger was barely warm (the LG was the earnest device).

Took a picture of the unit with the lights off to show the LEDs. They are minimal brightness (I would say <25mCD). They were about the Dave brightness as the led on my girls phone that shows the phone is charging. I have taken a picture for reference and I'll try to look to it for reference.

        • +1

          @goldiep:
Dave brightness is just too much! :)

    • I've had the same experience with my equivalent 'clone' emitting a burning smell and getting very hot with multiple devices. This link doesn't give much cred to this possible version of charger both from a safety perspective and for your device. (I know there are hundreds of variations out there but it's good to be aware).

Bankstown Airport store have stock but will not reduce the price - still $25. It seems pointless chasing Bunnings clearance items as the clearances are store-specific.

    • I wish I saw this message before driving here. LOL

    • Same for Bunnings Port Melbourne. Plenty of stock, but they are around $28.

  • +2

Not a current deal at Artarmon.

Thanks. Nabbed one from Victoria Point (QLD) Bunnings, two remaining.

Port Melbourne bunnings are happy to match it. Look for Nick in Electrical.

  • $28 at Bunnings Alexandria…

    • They price match themselves though. I got one there for $7.50 today, not on the shelves though, only on the end of the isle and only one was there :(.

      • I asked them to and they refused. Couldn't be bothered with the grumpy guy.

        • Yeah sorry, I always get Mascot and Alexandria Bunnings confused. They scanned @ $25 at Mascot, but they matched the price (had photo on iphone of ozbargain photo of label). Said I was in another store and they were on discount, would they match.

I thought I was at Alexandria Bunnings, but it was Mascot - my apologies.

  • I couldn't find any at Broadmeadows Vic

  • Any other Bunnings in QLD? Or do they match the price?

    • +2

none in stock at Mt Gravatt East Logan Rd store, 34 in stock at Mt Gravatt Wecker Rd store but price is $19 and staff i spoke to said couldn't price match other stores clearance items.

      • +1

Mt Gravatt Wecker Rd store price matched for me an hour ago. Showed the photo on phone. Still a few on shelf end.
