My willpower to wait for price drops is weakening. Come on < 3k!

    • +3

Just buy it man. This price is insanely cheap.

I'd be buying one myself if I didn't already have an OLED TV.

        • +7

          dreaming

        • +5

          thanks Nostradamus

        • +1

This might go 2499 when being permanently cleared for the 2018 panels and if eBay have 15% sitewide concurrently and if 2018 oled is going to be cheaper than 2017 oled (then they'll have to cut the price to prevent cannibalising their clearance of 2017 stock).

Not many will snag one due to low stock and, until then, no chance at all of 2499.

Although I really don't understand why lg sells oled panels, maybe it's to reduce market share of Samsung

        • -2

@justtoreply: will quote and PM you all in end of Dec , when it's available for 2499. Revoke the -ve votes then. End of Oct or early Nov is a very bad time to buy TV

        • +1

          @regenade:

I'll take you up on that, because if you're right then I'll be the owner of an oled tv. Although, the 55 is the only one that'll fit our space

        • +2

I wouldn't be too confident. Boxing day sales in the last few years have been fairly lacklustre.

  • +2

So want - fantastic price but still such an expensive luxury!

  • $2195 from Bing lee the 55 inch

    • Pick up price though, and no Cashrewards AFAIK…

  • -2

So, 65" HDR TV is about $2000, this is almost twice the price, is OLED worth twice the price of LED with HDR?

    • Only if you got money to burn imo

    • +17

Hell yes. The picture quality of OLED TVs is simply breathtaking. OLED tech leaves LCD in the dust.

      • OLED tech leaves LCD in the dust.

Bit of an exaggeration, good LCD TVs come close.

        • +2

Agreed, but so do their prices. Was pricing up a 55 inch oled vs high end LCD for the spare room, both a little over $2k on sale. OLED wins

        • In a well-lit room LCD and OLED are close, but in a dimly lit home theatre there's no comparison. Even plasma beats LCD in that environment.

  • +1

OLED is miles ahead of any other technology for picture quality - go to store and compare yourself.

    • +15

I'll stick with plasma until it breaks

      • +3

where can i buy one of these 'plasmas'? They seem very good.

      • +4

heh, yeah I know what you mean. We have the Panasonic Plasma from around 2010 and it's going great. I've been grateful too as I didn't want it to die when my only choice was LCD's but now that OLED's are becoming decently priced and Panasonic has entered the market I will have choices when the time comes. :)

      • +5

My 7 year old Panasonic plasma still going strong!

      • +6

My Panasonic 50" Plasma is now 10 years old and runs perfectly. I keep lusting after newer models but can't justify making the jump while the Plasma is still perfect. :)

        • at least yours is 50inch.. haha im still on 42! … but yeh i'm with you..

      • +2

Same here, got a Made in Japan 55" VT series Panasonic in 2011, still going, occasional random reboots but awesome picture quality. Once it finally dies, OLED it is…🙏

      • +1

2x Plasmas here, 50inch panasonic and 60 LG. I laugh at OLED.

        • +1

Sometimes I laugh when I hurt myself, even though it doesn't make any sense either

      • +5

Pioneer Kuro 50" still going strong

      • -1

No 4k plasma. Have a Kuro Pioneer 50inch at the beach house + a 65 inch Panasonic plasma there too. LED Tvs in Melbourne @ 4k blow both of them away, in everything but motion, and maybe colours on the Pioneer, but its damn close.

        • What about blacks?

          Plasma blacks are pitch black.
          Lcd blacks are grey.

        • @diddy50: unbelievably 10 years later … you'd think you wouldn't have to mention blacks or refresh rates but here we are… lol

        • -1

@diddy50: I would say that the Sony 70inch 4K matches the Pioneer and beats the Panasonic for blacks

  • What is the return policy like for these guys in the event of a faulty delivery etc.

    • Panasonic come out to ur house

  • +1

Damn. Could have gotten oled. Pulled trigger at aud 1799 for sony 55 x930e

    • as soon as i saw that "deal" i knew it was a big mistake to buy it. It was too strange that it was targeted like that.

      • I feel lost now. :(

  • Looks like this TC doesn't support Dolby Vision HDR, although I cannot link it to a specific model on the Philips website.

  • +1

What are people doing with their LCD AND LED TV's? You can't just chuck a working tv and buy a new one.

    • +1

Guess it depends on how much one values PQ. I'm holding back only because I'm hoping LG brings back 3D on their 2018 OLED models (no one else really did 3D that well). There is even a petition on change.org for this.
      https://www.change.org/p/lg-please-revive-3d-on-a-2018-oled-…

      • +5

3D was just a fad, limited range of titles too.

        • +1

This is my stance too. 3d gets reincarnated with a different technology every so often. This time it lasted longer than previously. But 3d always goes the way of the dodo.

The problem this time may have been that they charged a premium for 3d blu ray. If they didn't, more people would have tried it. Hence it didn't become a must have feature to the user.

From the manufacturers point of view, 3d is no longer a differentiating feature that allows a tv to sell for a premium.

So really there's neither manufacturer nor many users pushing for it. It's only the few who let themselves get wrapped into the ecosystem who care

        • @justtoreply:
Some 3D titles (life of Pi/ Tintin) were amazing, but sadly never took off. Even 3D gaming. 4K is a better technology to have anyway.

  • I thought its top the range EZ100. lol

  • +2

55 inch worth it? Need quick advice!!

  • Thanks. Finally pulled the trigger on the 55"

  • Pulled the trigger on an LG OLED a few months ago after the little one put a crack in my trusty 2010 Samsung Plasma that I was hoping to keep as long as it lived. Absolutely amazing….

    • Kids…

    • I'm scared to buy a new tv due to kids..

      • +13

I'm scared to have kids due to my TV.

How can a tv that is so new and expensive not support ATMOS audio ?

    • +1

Why does the TV need to support it? That's a job for your AVR.

  • +1

How does the OLED stack up against the best of Pioneer/Panasonic last model Plasmas?

    • +1

Panasonic said they can get even deeper black levels and punchier whites on these OLED. The motion handling is still said to be better on plasma. Obviously, you’re also not going to be able to view 4K content at its native resolution on plasma. The plasma tv’s are missing all the smart tv features compared to recent OLED.

      Here’s a decent comparison https://www.lifewire.com/oled-vs-plasma-3276234

      • +1

The plasma tv’s are missing all the smart tv features compared to recent OLED.

Like what? My 2013 VT50 has Netflix and Youtube.

  • +1

These Panasonic’s are great in everything, except for the lack of Android TV and a Plex app.

    • +1

Which are the best with inbuilt chromecast / android tv?

      • Sony is the only Android TV OLED

  • +1

as soon as this gets sub 3k im snapping up a 65"

    • +1

….As soon as my plasma falls off the wall, glass cracks, burns out, kids break it. Etc

  • +5

Samsungs QLEDs are in the early to mid 3k range, they must be hating this. Either they push these glorified LCDs down, or no sale. The cheaper OLED gets, the more irrelevant LCD becomes. About time.
