Not quite as good as the previous deal of $495 which had a 20% discount (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/336588), but I was looking for a card to power my 1440p monitor to replace my GTX 1060 3Gb. And this looked like a decent deal still.

Item is 10% off store discount then use 5% discount code.

1% Cashrewards as well for a few extra dollars back.

OP, you bought this gtx 1070 to upgrade your GTX 1060? really?

whats wrong with that? general concensus is the 1060 is great for 1080p, 1070 is great for 1440p.

i'm in the same boat (have a 1060, looking for a second hand 1070)

1070ti is a waste of money…you can buy 1080s for about the same or cheaper (in australia)

      • Just seems like a waste to me, as you'll never notice the difference unless you're watching the FPS in very demanding games. Your 1060 would have been maximum 12 months old, maybe much less?

It's just a choice of marginal benefit. Second-hand, your 1060 is worth maybe $180 or 190, so you're out of pocket $350 just for a better card in the same chipset family/series.

I'm actually in a similar boat, I have a friend with an rx470, but I'm advising him to save his money for a while longer, either buy the next gen or wait until prices drop further on the current gen.

      • I use the 1060 6GB with a 1440p screen and so far it's been pretty good. The 1070 would be better, but it's a fair bit more expensive.

        whats wrong with that?

What is wrong with that is that you are selling your card with 200 AUD (i sold a 3gb one 2 days ago), to add 330 AUD to get not a lot of extra frames. It does not make sense to spend that much money for not a lot of benefit. An upgrade to a 1080 at least makes some sense, a 1080ti makes the most amount of sense.

It makes sense to decrease the settings and wait for the next gen.

Yea, I've got the GTX 1060 3Gb model. Works well for gaming at 1080p and decent at 1440p. But if I want to record gameplay or stream using NVENC, it struggles, due to the limited VRAM. The 6Gb version of the GTX1060 prob would be ok though, but I was on a tight budget when I bought the 1060 to replace a dead card.

It will be decent increase in performance for 1440p, going from 3Gb to 8Gb and a faster card.

FYI, my 1060 3Gb is less than 6 months old I think.

I considered second hand, but would rather have full warranty and not have the chance of warranty issues purchasing second hard. Even second hand they are selling up to $500. So better off getting a new one at this price.

I research all my purchases plenty, and never buy anything on a whim.

      • Watched 5 1070's sell on ebay for $430 to $480 used last week so may as well get new.
Well worth getting the 1070 if you can spend extra I have had it since launch using only 1080P and still want more GPU power.

Especially if you run over 60hz panel!

        • Yea, I am running a 27" 1440p monitor at 80hz. My 3Gb 1060 was struggling at some points, but generally it was ok. But I was getting frustrated with the main game I play (DayZ) and trying to record or stream gameplay.
Used prices are basically new prices when there is a sale on, so I wasn't going to bother with a used one. If I could get a used one for under $400 I prob would of considered.

Is this the one they use for bit mining?

    • Doubt it, I thought the radeon RX series was better for most type of coin mining.

Okay. Do I need anything else apart from this card for coin mining? I have an i5 3.2 ghz desktop. Someone told me I need an i7 computer to do decent mining.

        • Depends on the coin you are mining but for the most part the graphics card is the only thing that matters, you just need a processor to run the operating system.

These cards can be used for mining but it will take a while before you hit ROI.

        • Depends entirely on which coin you're mining, and what program you're using to mine.

        • it will take a while before you hit ROI.

@baegmon: Depends how you define it: for some people that may be the easiest way to access cryptos, so any coins at all puts them ahead and they don't care too much about power and hardware costs

  • Is it possible to claim TRS for these graphics cards?

  • mine is showing up as not quite that low of a price, any help?

    • Looks like they have put the price up. Was $619 before 10% off store discount previously then an additional 5% off.
