        • Currently paying Telstra $80/mth for 100mbps with 500GB. Pretty sure I cannot get that through any decent NBN provider including Aussie Broadband?

        • @kipps: That's exactly what I pay with ABB - 100/40, 500GB for $80/month. https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/residential/residential-i…

        • +2

          @kipps:

Similar here, was on Telstra 500GB Ultimate 100/2 Cable for $80/mth (= $20 off from RRP $100, was a deal years ago, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/96187), and my "18 months to switch or cut off" date will be May 2018.
Switched to Telstra HFC NBN (500GB 100/400) last month, got connected a week ago.

I do believe my 500GB will become 1TB next month since "Telstra Is Doubling Data For All NBN Customers":
          https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2017/11/telstra-is-doubling-da…

However Telstra is not calling their fastest speed 100/40 anymore, to avoid problems:
          https://www.telstra.com.au/broadband/nbn/nbn-speeds-explaine…
          It's now: Minimum speeds between 7pm-11pm: 60/24 & Typical speeds outside 7pm-11pm: 90/30
And I'm getting 75~80/30~35 all the time.

The only "big" problem I got with NBN was I have to call Telstra after my NBN is connected, ask them to add the Speed Boast for free, since I was getting 100/2 on cable.
Otherwise they just give me 25/5 by default, too slow.

          So, It's 500GB (1TB soon), 100/40, with Home Phone, $80/mth.
          ABB's 1TB, 100/40, with "casual phone plan", is $105/mth.

Telstra is still better in this case.

          EDIT:
Another problem with Telstra HFC NBN, they don't give you the SIP username/password for the Home Phone (now VoIP), so in order to use the phone, customers need to use the Gateway provided by Telstra (Model: Sagemcom F@st 5355).
Either connect it directly to your NBN modem, or connect it behind your own Gateway/Router.
And that Sagemcom F@st 5355 is a piece of junk. Slow and stupid GUI, some options are locked, random reboot and slow boot time.

          @kipps:

I believe Aussie BB is $85/mo for 500GB and 100/40 so just slightly more.

And you'd probably be getting advertised speeds too.

        • @derfel.cadarn: thanks for all the replies people

        • Is aussie broadband related in any way to ACN or the other way around? I ask because I did an isp check one time and it said iseek communications.

      • Same… Sticking with TPG's ADSL2+ until i have to change to unreliable/slow/etc HFC…

        • Are you in a nbn HFC area? nbn HFC is much more reliable than ADSL

        • @MungiDreamIT: Nope…

          As perviously mentioned in /comment/5259136/redir…

I have friends on HFC and slows down to a crawl especially after school 3pm+ and after work 5pm+

As well as stories of people dropping out on NBN…

So i rather be on slower, but reliable ADSL2+… except twice, when Telstra had to send a tech out to replace the batteries in the exchange or somewhere… And once when some construction flooded the local pit…

        • @NGPriest: this is also the case with NBN FTTP and NBN FTTN .. my mother in-law is on fttp gets 1mb and much less upload @ peak times (she is on her 3rd ISP at the moment)…. similar case for me with FTTN but not as bad since my area only has a small block who got FTTN (TPG). Unless ISP's start sharing contention ratio's/NBN bandwidth purchased figures i wouldn't believe anything any ISP tells me.. at the moment its just a Market grab exercise and this goes for all ISP's … consumer experience will be hit and miss and since most can point the finger at NBN (a lot of cases wrongly) its full steam ahead regardless of the consumer.

It's misleading to use lightening if you even cannot guarantee the speeds.

    ACCC…???

    • The words 'lightning fast' also rings alarm bells for me.

EDIT: Lol, dammit - ABB use it as well - "Our super fast products are matched by lightning quick customer support". ABB do have great speeds and support though.

      • But is it lightning speed?

        • A rare gem. :)

        • +1

Light travels through empty space at 186,000 miles per second.
The electricity which flows through the wires in your homes and appliances travels much slower: only about 1/100 th the speed of light.

  • Hi Op,
When I check my address NBN says Your address will be connected to the nbn™ broadband access network via nbn™ Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC). What does that mean? FTTP or FTTN?

    • From the node it will use cable: https://goo.gl/J6P55W

    • Hi pgardiye,

This would mean you would be on nbn HFC. This is neither FTTP or FTTN.

      • is that better?

        • I would say so :) HFC is much more reliable than FTTN, however, FTTP would be the best choice :)

  • Do you do FW?

    • +2

      Hi Savas,

We do offer FW, send us your address and we'll be glad to confirm this :)

      • Cool, what about international calls? Tbh we are happy with TPG and I am weary with fixed wireless providers since speeds can be a lot more variable than fibre, there are awful reviews about My Republic so not sure if your using the same RSP.

        • +2

International calls is something that is being organised, what country do you currently call? We can organise IDD however we normally recommend using apps such as Skype or Facetime.

We can provide our service to another port, this way you can try us out.

        • @MungiDreamIT: Greece and the United States, was just curious to see what you're offering.

        • +1

          @Savas:

          I see.

I would be glad to give you an update once we've finished our IDD product.

        • @MungiDreamIT: Oh cool, see the problem with TPG is they only do 25Mbps however it is very consistent. You do 50Mbps for FW? I heard news they could reach faster speeds but idk when they are commercially available.

        • +1

@Savas: That's correct we offer 50/20 for Fixed Wireless, we're looking at expanding this to 100/40 in Q2 2018

        • @MungiDreamIT: Awesome, thanks for the information. Wow 100Mbps on FW is amazing.

        • +1

@Savas: All good! We can upgrade you to the 100/40 plan later on once this is enabled :)

  • +2

Hi OP, any change of a one month free trial like other companies have done? I was caught in the Buzz debacle and have moved to AussieBB, and while happy I think we will go over our data limit so I would like to go back to an unlimited plan. A free month would let me compare you against ABB and see how it stacks up.

    • +2

      Hi there,

I understand it may have been frustrating to constantly change providers, especially in such a short period of time.

We considered having a free month trial, however, the costs of customers signing up, saturating bandwidth and potentially leaving, is something we would prefer to not do, may in the future but not at this stage.

We've been ensuring Mungi has been operating efficiently as possible to reduce costs and reinvesting it towards our network and to ensure sustainability. This is why Mungi has been cashflow positive since day one.

      • +3

We've been ensuring Mungi has been operating efficiently as possible to reduce costs and reinvesting it towards our network and to ensure sustainability. This is why Mungi has been cashflow positive since day one.

I don't understand how you can be cashflow positive from day one AND at the same time reducing costs AND reinvesting to your network?

The majority of the network belongs to Vocus and taking into account advertising, staffing, payments to third parties and so forth I can't see how you were cashflow positive from day one unless I'm missing something?

        • We built our own billing system, website and other related resources. As mentioned we're using assets of our other business to cover staffing, training and support.

This freed up significant funds for us to organise more bandwidth for our customers.

  • +1

I still have a contract with my other ISP, does Mungi have an offer to attract customers to switch over?

    • Saving $20 every month is incredibly attractive already :)

Does your provider have 24/7 Australian support via live chat, facebook message or email? We also have no contracts, no setup fees and no cancellation fees.

  • +1

    Hi Mungi team,

Nice deal you got there. I am in 6060 area and recently was notified that NBN is arriving mid December. Can I sign up the deal and delay the porting until end of January? If yes, how do I achieve this? Do I include such info in the LOCAL NUMBER PORTING INFORMATION column? Please advise.

    Cheers

    • Hi stevenwgm83,

Absolutely! Once you've signed up, please leave a note at the end and we'll activate your service (and billing cycle) once it's confirmed active :)

Please ensure you fill out the porting information, so it's all ready to go

  • +1

My building is connected via FTTB and i am current connected with other provider.
How long does it take to move over to your service? Will it hassle free?
Can i still use the existing modem while using your provider? Lighting 100 is so attractive..so tempted.
Will you speed drop in the peak hours?

    • No problems with moving your service over. Are you able to speak to our team on live chat? We'll need your address for us to give a rough estimation.

You're absolutely welcome to use your existing modem however it must be compatible.

You may notice speed drops in peak hours, however, we're constantly monitoring our network to ensure everyone can have a smooth experience :)

  • +1

Can you do 200/200 like skymesh? I have FTTP

    • We cannot do that. The maximum available is 10/40. However we can add multiple services on your end.

      • +1

10 down seems a bit slow. ;) Must be that contention ratio.

  • +2

    So much salt

    • All good! We appreciate any feedback from the community

  • Hey rep, piece of friendly advice, never EVER use the term Munging for anything, that means something different.

    • Thanks for the advice…

  • +2

I honestly don't know why anyone bothers with these "cheap" NBN providers if they want a high quality service, especially during peak times. They are literally all the same, except maybe a very small list of exclusions, aussiebb seems to get a good rap.

I know people don't want to hear it but go Telstra if you want a high quality NBN connection, they are one of the very few that don't oversell their network (even Optus does). I currently pay $99 a month with Telstra for 1TB @ 100/40 speed (was a free speed pack offer a while ago), and I get those speeds any time of the day or night.

    • +1

I understand why you feel this way.

Especially where many members have been burnt by low-cost providers. Mungi aims to differentiate ourselves from our competitors.

We would love for our customers to try us ours especially with no contracts, no setup fees and no disconnection fees.

We also pride our selves by offering great customer service by have no credit card surcharges (includes AMEX & PayPal), no late fees ($30 admin fee after 3 late invoices per year) and are easily accessible through live chat, email and even Facebook message.

      • Well hopefully you can pull it off, from what I understand it's very hard to due to to fixed pricing you receive on the wholesale end from NBN. So it's either oversell network or charge more there isn't much else to it from what I understand.

  • Hey guys I'm going to switch from Internode will I need to notify them or can I just switch the service - FTTP

    • Hi mate,

We can provide your service to another port; then you can disconnect your Internode service afterwards

  • Hi, if I sign up now, Can I have it activate after new year, and how long will it take from activate till I can use the internet, I am on FTTP. Thanks

    • Hi there!

You sure can! Once you pay the first month, your billing cycle wont start untillr requested.

Please make sure you leave notes on when you want to be active.

FTTP services normally take up to 4-8 hours till activated.

  • This offer has been extended until midnight Wednesday! We have plenty of D-Link DVA-2800 modems in stock and our team is available to help process your order. We've been connecting customers in as little as few hours!

    • too bad the deal has expired. Hi Rep is that possible pm me if you have the same deal again. thanks

  • I signed up and it took 4 hours to be activated. Here's the speed test result:
    http://mungi.speedtestcustom.com/result/b58720a0-ccdd-11e7-8…

10% slower download rate compared to iinet, but for $25/month reduction per month, not too bad.

  • Damn, HFC not in my area until Jan-Mar 18, otherwise I'd love to give you guys a try at that price ;)

    • Aww! I'm sure we'll have something then ;)

      • I'll ping you when it's ready and see if you can hook me up :)

        • If it's in Jan-Mar you're welcome to make an order, Just leave an message in the notes section and we'll submit your order once nbn is ready.

This way you can lock in the offer now

  • Seems like a good deal, but anyone on FTTP would have to be extremely sceptical about any cheap unlimited plan by a no name (or any name) RSP.

    • HI Pacify,

We're incredibly proud of our network.

Please feel free to try us out, don't forget we have no contracts, no setup fees and no cancellation fees.

      • That may be so.

But the realities of the CVC system suggest that any RSP that offers unlimited 100/40 at a cheap rate is always going to struggle with balancing CVC allocation and making a profit.

I can't think of a single RSP that has managed it yet, even some of the big names that offer unlimited have congestion issues.

I'll stick with Aussie BB's more expensive and capped service.

        • Fair enough then.

As mentioned before, we leverage the assets of our business. This allows us to significantly reduce costs (website, hosting, advertising, customer service and more).

        • +1

          @MungiDreamIT:

Interesting. Well, I'll keep my eye out in the future for feedback on whirlpool, having unlimited would be nice.

  • +1

    Hi everyone :)

We've extended this offer until the end of the year!

Don't forget to mention the modem offer in the order notes.

    Cheers,

    Jamie
