Hard to argue with the price; I don't suppose anyone has experience with the quality?

    • +5

I've got a Viano. There's a little bit of bleeding of the backlight, but you only notice it on a monochome background.
Mine also has two dead pixels, but it doesn't bother me too much.

The remote is rubbish, but I've got a Logitech one anyway (use Vivo codes).

If I was in the market for a tv, I'd jump on it.

      • +54

I would suggest not to jump on it or else they might charge you for the damaged TV.

      • My remote in Viano 55” works very well

      • Do you know if it works for pc monitor usage aka chroma subsampling 4:4:4

Service Menu Codes in that thread.

HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0 apparently.

    • Thanks added

      • +1

Whoops. Actually that's a link to the 55", not the 50". But I suspect it's almost the same.

called the hotline they told me what stores had them.

Which ones had them in stock?

    • +6

I can't get to a store today but was near a phone, so called for OzBargainers in Western Sydney :)

Note the lady said each of these stores only has 1-2 in stock!

      Merrylands
Auburn (spot22a below got last one?)
      Winston Hills
      Chullora (spot22a reported none left?)
      Wetherill Park
      Blacktown
      Liverpool

      • called merrylands, no stock

      • No stock on Wetherill Park or Top Ryde

      • Liverpool sold out. Bonnyrrigg just sold their last one 10" ago

        • None in Fairfield and CarnsHill either

      • No left in Campsie and Hurstville.

  • +22

wow you can buy 5 of these TVs for the price of an iphone x …bargain!

    • +21

Does the Viano have a headphone socket?

    • +4

I tried to fit one in my pocket and it ripped. You owe me a new shirt. :-)

      • +7

Be careful you don’t drop it. The glass will probably break.

        • +10

I can't get the facial recognition to work no matter how hard I mush it against my face.

        • +6

          @syousef:

          I think you’re holding it wrong…

        • +5

          @sillywalks:

Could be why I'm getting no signal.

        • @syousef:

Maybe you need a bumper case.

        • +1

          @sillywalks:

It's okay. I worked out how to strap it to my back.

        • @syousef:

So long as you don’t have s glass back you should be fine.

    • +20

      No band 28.

      • can someone please explain this joke to me. I see it in quite a few comment sections

        • It's not much of a joke to be honest.

        • Band 28 refers to the mobile phone 4G frequency (700MHz) for the Australian market. Because Band 28 was the old analogue TV signal frequency before it was decommissioned and repurposed for mobile phone 4G, very few other countries use it.

However, Band 28 is every important for the Australian market because it is the frequency most likely to give you a 4G signal if you are on Telstra or Optus.

Thus, when a new mobile phone gets mentioned on OzBargain, one of the very first questions asked will be: Band 28?

Band 28, Xiaomi and Eneloop batteries are synonymous with this website.

    • Is it waterproof?

      • Yes.

whats the latency like on an xbox for gaming?

    • Not sure on Xbox, but check this short, input lag test on what appears to be Nintendo console? (sorry, I am not good with gaming): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAcFKBDJ81k

    • +1

My guess is pretty bad. Most normal tv's have pretty average latency for gaming and something this cheap - i expect it to be worse

  • thanks OP

  • 4K, decent for a PC monitor?

    • +3

Why would you use a 50 inch TV as a monitor??

      • +13

        boobies.

Just a cheap huge 4K screen, thought it might be usable.

      • +1

        Skyrim :-0

      • +5

        Why wouldn't you?

        • -1

Its generally a bad idea; low refresh rates, latency problems and your eyes will be cooked unless you sit not at your desk.

        • @cdaddy: but 50" "action" movies

        • @cdaddy: Why do I need good refresh rates for Microsoft Excel?

        • @cdaddy:

It will not hurt your eyes at normal desktop range, I have a 40" 1080p and its easier on the eyes than a smaller monitor, plus games and movies are much more immersive.

        • @geebee: 1080p yea because thats got nothing on the quality and detail 4k has

        • @cdaddy:

It was in response to your comment on large screens cooking your eyes, which is BS.

        • @geebee: You'll get square eyes sonny!

    • +1

might be a bit large depending on how far you sit. and probably not a great option if you want to game.

but for general purpose use, would be more than fine.

    • I found 40" to be alright for a monitor. 50" would surely hurt your neck or eyes, unless you have a fairly deep desk.

      • +1

I'll probably be using this like a console for a tv. Just don't want to pay more for less with a tiny pc monitor.. looking for an all in one multi purpose solution.. as long as it has chroma subsampling 4:4:4 it should be fine.

        • It would be extremely unlikely that this TV supports 4:4:4.

        • @BTRaynes: damn was hoping for the best can anyone confirm or deny?

      • +1

Had to read that twice before I realised you said deep "desk".

      • +1

To go to 4K and have decent size text at 100% scaling I don't think I would go sub 50 inch screen size.

  • A Hisense 50N7 is $833.6 through PRESSY, so this is a very good deal.

  • Would this TV last minimum 6 months?

    • +2

Big W are good with returns at a minimum.

    • Maybe 5? jks :)

    • Warranty is at least double that, before ACL comes into it.

      • ACL means how many years of warranty? Sorry, noob here

        • For a TV, 3-5 years. It depends.

        • 3-5 years is bit misleading. There is no specified time frame but I doubt for a $350 tv the consumer guarantees provided under ACL would apply after such a long period of time.

Good luck walking into a Big W store in 4 years time demanding that they apply ACL guarantees to your $350 tv. It's just not going to happen and I doubt the ACCC will help you.

        • +1

@tranter: So does that mean the ACL is just a set of subjective guidelines? I just presumed there were rigid, set guidelines set out for all to follow, regardless of price paid for product, or how many upvotes it got on Ozbargain as a sweet deal! If a TV costs $1, does that mean you'll only get a month's ACL protection thrown in? Genuine qn (noob).

        • It's been a while since I read the info about the ACL consumer guarantees on the ACCC website but from what I remember it's specific and detailed in some areas and fairly vague in others, eg. time frame.

From what I remember the purchase price comes into the equation so you would expect a longer time frame on a $3500 tv compared to a $350 tv.

Yes, to a degree it's subjective.

I think it comes down to common sense as well. I think it's unreasonable that I should expect a retailer to fix, replace or refund my faulty $350 tv that worked perfectly for 3-4 years.

        • @tranter:

ACCC/ALC/other acronyms aside, the bloke in the shop said it's got a 2 year Big W warranty.

        • @Zorlin: not for a 300 dollar tv.

    • +8

I bought a 32" Full HD version of this tv from the same company a few years ago. It died like after 2 years, so I went out and bought a new one. Before I threw the old one out, I thought I'd check about warranty, and lo-and-behold the company picked it up from me, repaired it and returned it within two weeks. Was super surprised, but impressed. Now its my bedroom TV!

  • +3

i got last one in Auburn. Chullora has none

    • How is it review please!

      • unfortunately im the last person qualified to review a TV :( I wouldnt have the faintest clue.

Altho considering the TV i have atm was made in 2009, im certain i will think the Viano is nothing short of 'amazing'.

good luck to everyone else looking for it. The lady who was at the counter said she had a lot of calls after i reserved it over the phone.

        • Do you plan to game on it or do any sort of pc monitoring or just a standard normal tv for you? I am interested in its input lag and chroma subsampling 4:4:4

  • Got one, Thanks ! The in laws will appreciate it!

    • Which laws say you need to appreciate a Viano TV?

      • The In ones

    • Men like you are dissappointing God!

      • LMAO! You have my sympathy re your terror-in-laws. 😂

  • +2

I got this same brand TV (but around 40") from Coles at the same price, around 3-4 years ago and it hasn't missed a beat.

  • anyonw know if these are better than linden tvs?

    • Aldi's?

      • I own a Viano and dicksmith they are very similar, so I’m assuming they are pretty much all same thing

  • is this wall mountable? vesa 400x400?

    • +1

I haven't seen a TV that isn't VESA mountable in years, and at 50 inch it should be about 400x400

  • Does this do upscaling on dtv?

    • +5

All TVs upscale, otherwise SD channels (which are 720x576) would just be a small box in the middle of the screen.

  • I want one but I stuck at work :(

    • Don't worry you'd be lucky to get one. So far only 3x confirmed stock Australia-wide.

      • WTF?

        • Yep.

Also, just because the call centre says a particular store is showing 1 or 2 in stock, it doesn't mean they actually have stock.

          Edit: Actually 5x now.

  • Thanks op. Xmas for the folks sorted

  • Two stores i called are selling 49 and 55 inch only. I wonder if this model is old stock.

    • Yes clearance

  • -1

50inches 4k is not enough recognise whether it is 4k or FHD, and this TV might have bad image rendering. but just need bigger TV for local broadcast, It would be fine.

    • +1

It does if you use it as a desktop display.

Even with a 70" TV, very few people sit close enough to tell the difference from FHD.
And even fewer regularly have any 4K media, except still photo slideshows.

But hey, its $349. Unless you can find an equivalent FHD display cheaper, don't spoil it.

      • I picked up the jvc from big w for 328 that was 48", like having 4x24" FHD monitors. Don't use it much but it's quite good, big but no one said you need to maximise your windows. A damn sight cheaper than buying 4 monitors

  • +8

Not a bad price. Too bad it is a discontinued line and the last time our particular store had stock was back in June.

Good luck to all those in the hunt for one but you might have an easier time getting the Aldi 4K tv that's coming up.

Edit: key code is 595051 if you want to chase one.
