It is just as cheap as Amazon Seagate backup plus yeah? What is the real difference between 2 drives though?

    • From memory of discussions in past deals, the difference lies in just the appearance, and the backup plus also comes with some Backup Software. The drives that are inside are the same.

    • +1

Just check the BackBlaze stats on the drive, though, some Seagate 4TB drives have a 1 in 6 chance of dying per year.

      • I would never buy a seagate, they're trash these days.

  • I got one yesterday and was about to post this. However, jb hifi website has not been updated with the special price… sigh..:(

    • +1

I think you mean 'had not been'

      • +1

        yes. obviously. :) thanks.

  • Can you do Officeworks Pricebeat online, or only in-store?

    • +1

You can either do it on the phone by calling 1300633423 or by going in-store, they’ll deliver for free express if you call up btw.

  • Question, can I use this with an XB1 X to install games? Would I be able to keep using it for other purposes e.g. storage? (not p'rn)

    • +1

Yes you can use it on the XB1 to install.

Second part, im not sure. It may have to be reformatted.

Mine literally stays connected to my XB1 and never moves.

    • +1

Just got mine and going to try the same thing by partitioning it… I'll let you know how I go.

      • Thanks mate, i'm considering this or the Spongebob WD from Amazon for ~$150

    • +1

If you use it for installing Xbox One games, then you can't use it for other purposes.

    • No, I believe the XB1 and PS4 both format the entire drive for their own use.

I just went out and bought this hard drive to use as a backup for some files. It has dropped from my PC during the first transfer 3 times. Now I may be rash but I'm taking it back and getting my money back. Will patiently wait until a WD drive is on sale.

    • For WD best bet is probably amazon. I got a 4tb for a friend for less than $150 delivered.

      • thanks for the heads up. Though I'm in no hurry so it'd be good to get it locally, you know, easier to deal with returns and exchanges. Still as an Ozbargainer, I will not pay more than $37.50/TB now.

        • If you have an AMEX, get HN to pricematch and buy 3.

          (4/(((1493)-100)/3)1000) = $34.58 / TB

        • @idonotknowwhy: what calc are you using mate???

          3x149 = 447
          Minus $100
          = 347
          347/ 12tb
          =$28.9 per tb.

Thanks for the info priced matched at Harvey Norman for $149.00 then used a $50.00 HN voucher I had laying around to bring it down to $99.00 cheap storage.

    • +1

How did you get said HN voucher.?

  • Thanks OP. Got one. My WD 2tb died couple of weeks ago.

No drama with the officeworks price beat.

  • Got Officeworks to beat it, thanks everyone.

  • Great price mate, thank you!

  • No price beat in officeworks, they dropped the price to 149. Will go to jb hi-fi as I got some jb hi-fi gift card

Thanks OP. Is the hard drive integrated on the board or can it be removed and put in a dock if board/case fails?

    • +1

Yes, it is a standard drive inside with a sata connector.

      • just what i wanted to confirm. if this is legit i will buy it !

        • it would be a thicker drive it may not fit in a laptop and maybe console.

  • This drive hilariously holds its value.

    I bought a Seagate Expansion 4TB 3 years ago for $150.

After it went out of warranty and died, the same HDD with “newer” casing still cost $150.

    • desktop or portable?

    • I did not think they had 4tb drives three years ago.

Hard drives, memory, ssd. prices always go back up. floods, fires, shortages. it takes forever to come back down.
I got a sandisk 240gb ssd about a year ago for about $80, they are now at about $110

there is collusion going on here.

  • thanks op, got one. very good price.

  • Thanks for the heads up. Bought one today. However you may have to ask for it at the counter. The cable is very short.

  • I have some giftcards I want to use, if anyone in Sydney CBD wants to buy this hard drive for $139 cash PM me.
